  1. Well then, I don't want him taking over if he can't afford one! What sort of pleb doesn't own a private jet!? The sort who understands the value of money having earned his own fortune rather than squandered his inheritance perhaps Well that aint Arison, he is another Billionaire who inherited his fortune. And he has two super yachts! For any sizeable business in the US, owning corporate jets is pretty efficient. Randy Lerner's isn't a toy, it is a business tool. All of your UK billionaires own at least one (Al Fayed, Green, Dyson, Branson, Ashcroft (spit)), those kind of people, but they are a lot more expensive to run in Europe. The Arison guy would presumably have been using Carnival's jet up until last year. Maybe he has one now, or uses a charter company.
  2. In the space of two seasons the man has masterminded the loss of an entire season's worth of home games (19). He has masterminded cup exits against lower league teams who have literally outplayed us. VT is in complete hope mode at the moment. Those who wish for regime change are jumping on the slightest rumour of takeover, and trying to turn it into more than just a rumour. And those who support Lambert are clinging on to the bullshit mutterings of an ex-footballer with a doss Saturday afternoon job, who just happens to be Lambert's mate. Or did Lambert really try to sign an expensive striker while the side was screaming out for strength in midfield? If you support Lambert and haven't been to VP lately, please make the effort to come on Saturday, and see how you feel about him after 90 minutes.
  3. Is all of this based upon the musings of Charlie Nicholas, or is there any actual substance to it? It is clear that if Lambert had received more funding, then he may have signed better players. It is clear that, whatever happens, better funding is required in terms of adding to the squad. But the fact remains that Lambert took the job, knowing the parameters, and he sold his prospective employers the idea that he could do it. And he has failed, miserably. Regime change, if it's for the better, yes. Squad rebuilding, hopefully with better funding, yes. Manager/coaching staff change, yes
  4. Is that you Paul ? Please.......!
  5. Such as who ? They hung onto Houllier and Mcleish throughout the season - but they both wen't pretty swiftly after that. I really don't know where this 'Lerner is Loyal to his managers comes from' True most want Lambert out - But to axe him now would make a bad situation worse.... Long term, if our players are going cost on average £2m - and earn £25k pw - we ain't gonna be in the prem much lonher - whoever the manager is... O'Neill! There was no blinder loyalty. £2m? The manager had the budget and chose to buy more for less. I think that you will find that a large percentage of Premiership players earn £20-30k per week, at clubs that are way ahead of us.
  6. I think that Randy Lerner and Paul Faulkner need to realise that, if we manage to stay up this season, then Paul Lambert will take us down next season, regardless of how much he is given as a transfer budget. Unfortunately, given their blind loyalty to managers in the past, even if they do realise, I doubt whether anything will be done about it.
  7. The private charter Saturday night was empty. Positioned in to take a pop star out yesterday. So nothing to do with the Villa.
  8. What a load of crap and several fathoms beneath you. Except this country which wouldn't appear to (posters on the train stations 'naming and shaming' people who have been prosecuted for fare evasion). Except this is a decision by a private, profit making enterprise to allow someone to get away with something if they have the means to pay a penalty that outweighs the revenue that would have otherwise been obtained. As said in the Miller case, it's like nicking a telly from Currys and, when caught, saying that you'll settle the 'theft' by paying the money back (or twice the money back). If you don't have the excess money then you're not on the same field. I don't particularly disagree with you. I don't ride trains much, so have never noticed 'name and shame' posters. But the original article was a bit desperate, and I stand by the observation that thousands of people, rich, poor or otherwise, 'get away with it' on a daily basis.
  9. I'm not sure that's strictly true mate. The issue with Lerner is that he doesn't appear to have done anything to further develop the wealth he inherited. This Mickey Arison character earned over $7m in his last year as a CEO. It's not like Lerner has demonstrated the leadership skills of a billionaire businessman during his tenure at B6. I guess that over in off topic a CEO who earned over $7m last year would be described as a 'fat cat' Agreed on the last point.
  10. Buying one's way out of it would logically seem to be the case. though, surely? Sure, I guess that the ordinary people who get off without paying see it as some form of legal aid. I am pretty sure that most countries would give an option to pay, especially when they see the kind of figure involved, and have the likelihood of getting it. It's like the speeding fine system in Finland - means tested.
  11. A bit of Guardian desperation really. Evading justice isn't the preserve of the rich. Plenty of violent offenders, rich and poor, are put back on the streets immediately. Fairness and justice? Not in Britain in this millennium. Too much leniency in general.
  12. And peeing down with rain. And my brand new, delivered that afternoon, car broke down just as we left the mud bath of a car park. Relayed home by an AA driver whose diet was several creme eggs. It wasn't a good night.
  13. Not really, but if names are going to be bandied about, there may as well be a thread.
  14. Time for an 'owner speculation' thread, leaving 'the Randy Lerner thread' clear for those who wish to continue to abuse him.
  15. I'm off the hook as he doesn't own a jet! Last time the company jet was in the UK was June last year, in Southampton. I assume that he doesn't use that any more. Last night's private charter visitor came from Beirut, which is in a region of the guy's interest, so may have been him (I do not know, so no PMs please) But, two problems. 1. Inherited money - many VTers don't like (apparently) spoilt rich kids who inherit. 2. One of his captains ran one of his ships seriously aground while paying attention to a younger woman. Let's hope that he wouldn't choose a philandering manager On the upside, if he buys, the VT meltdown will continue for years to come, because it will be a nice roller coaster. It won't be too bad. It's when he gets the abuse from the Villa fans that he will really feel it!
  16. I suppose if it is on the leg of the 'arm and a leg' that he is going to lose on his 'investment' then the new owner will get it.
  17. Barry would be more likely to stop at Everton, we defo need 4 quality players no more squad fillers if you pay barry more than everton he would join, this goes for 99% of players, since the "new project" started of playing 10k a week etc this is the reason why we have lost 17 games this year..it wont be fixed by coaching.its a money game & the chairman is not willing to play the game. its a down ward spiral,i can see the ST lower next year & lower gates so less funds = sub standard players. If you think about it, gate receipts don't really come into it. If we were to average 40k over a league season at an average of £30 per seat, that would bring enough revenue to pay 1 player just under £40k per week. So, in terms of supporter expectations, it's nothing. *forget this. My rather nice bottle of 2008 Bordeaux is clearly working wonders on my maths, as you could pay 10 players just under £40k, so they are relevant. Sorry!
  18. I think John Terry has lifted a few titles That is my point. Terry isn't celebrated, he is universally hated outside of a three mile radius of the Brompton Road. Nobody lays platitudes like 'role model' on him, nor is he referred to by non-Chelsea supporters with a pet name. He comes from a bad family, and had the England captaincy taken off him for shagging his mate's girlfriend. (Not that I think that he should have ever received the honour of the captaincy) Gerrard is a cheap thug from another bad family, but we are supposed to look upon him as a role model, 'Stevie G', and watch as he wears the England captain's armband, something that has been worn in the past by real role models. The only difference between Terry and Gerrard is the hype. They are both animals.
  19. Steve Bruce has just demonstrated a master class on how to reorganise his bunch of journeymen average players to turn a losing position around. Paul Lambert take note. (I'd still love it if Sheff United got an equaliser!)
  20. I thought that Faulkner did interviews. Didn't he do some radio Q & A session recently? Lambert hasn't really had problems with the fans which, considering the awful performances, is a miracle, because he should have been getting pelters for a long time now. The radio Q&A from memory was pure propaganda from the club and there were no 'searching' questions asked of Faulkner - Lerner needs to be heard too IMO. I wasn't seeking a review of the Q&A, I was just using it as an example in reply to the statement that Lambert was the only member of the club in the media spotlight. Clearly he isn't. The desire for the owner to be heard has been long held by many supporters, but he didn't grab the spotlight when times were supposedly good, so he can hardly be accused of hiding now. Faulkner and Lambert are his spokespersons, and that is that as far as I can see.

  22. It's quite simple. Back in the days when football was competitive, and a team like Nottingham Forest could rise up from the lower leagues and dominate Europe for a couple of years, the red axis of 'rich' clubs, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United entered secret talks for a European Super League. This was designed to force change in our domestic league by forming a top division where the clubs with the most money won it. And the Premier League was born. The plan was flawed, as we have cheered first Blackburn, then Chelsea, and now Man City, as each have financially outmuscled the red three and spoiled their intended triopoly. And the last delicious irony of all this is that Liverpool have never won it. Let's hope that it stays that way. P.S. I won't start on the Gerrard aspect
  23. So Britain's most celebrated thug gets closer to lifting the title. There may be a black day for football coming.
  24. How much is 'too much'? The club is capitalised at £223m, so is the owner expected to sell at say one third of that amount? If someone knocks the door, I would expect the asking price to be £250m. If that somebody turns out to be a bona fide bidder, as opposed to a tyre kicker, then I would expect the club to be sold for £150m-£200m.
  25. Has the Charter Plane departed BHX yet? any indications as to where it has gone? No and no
