  1. Bannan needs to knuckle down, keep his mouth shut and show he can be a good player. Get fed up of his rent-a-quotes
  2. Chelmsley Wood, mainly a nose area, but no doubt who I supported. Now live near Luton, but lad is 19 and a big Villa fan as well, daughter has had Villa shirts, but only been to one game and won money on first scorer, Darius v Southampton first game of season when Carlton Cole looked a world beater.
  3. My late old man came over from Northern Ireland at same time as Peter McParland did and they became good friends and he followed Villa. My brother was 11 years older than me and supported Villa, I was brought up in
  4. Nice to see varying comments from various ages, think I have been through a few ages, remember getting Ian Ross from Liverpool in 71/72, Leighton Phillips in 74/75 was a good signing, Des Bremner certainly was as was Sir Dennis, Tony Morley and Peter Withe. More modern times, totally agree with Dean Saunders, made a massive impact, and as for Paul McGrath, could not dispute that at all
  5. Totally agree re Makoun markavfc40, if Lambert rates him keep him and if not, bin him. Thing is I think he has talent
  6. Good choices briny_ear. Just on another football forum saying Sir Dennis is the best player never to have played for England. Amazing when you think of the tosh that have played the last few years
  7. Dean Saunders was a great signing, remember big Ron on the pitch when we played Crystal Palace just before he signed
  8. Quite the opposite IMHO. He should have left Liverpool years ago (would probably have done but for the scouse mafia). The guy is a class act, never known him to be the big I am, unlike many I can think of. A good good midfielder, who should have been captain well ahead of Terry
  9. 03butpau, I like Merson, not sure he had the impact of some others mind. Some great games for us though and another person I thought why when we were buying him after his troubles
  10. Andy Gray looked even better when he came back to us a second time
  11. John, Bruce Rioch was my first Villa idol, first kit was the yellow away shirt with blue collar with number 4 on back, 72/73 I think. Loved Andy Gray, what a great header of a ball. Saw Andy Lochhead a few times in old 3rd division days, hard as nails, harder than George Curtis not though . Saunders was a great player for big Rons team, shame Dalian Atkinson didnt have the attitude to fulfill his undoubted talent.
  12. You can view it in whatever way you want, monetary value or impact on the playing field. Who would you say in your time of following the club has been the best signing.. Some examples may be Sir Dennis Mortimer from Coventry for £175,000 at xmas 1975, Ashley Young recently with the money he made. How about Jimmy Rimmer for £40,000 or David Platt from Crewe for £200k approx? However my best signing would be Peter Withe. When we signed him I thought WTF is Saunders doing, journeyman centre forward. What a massive player he was and was the final piece in the jigsaw. Any views?
  13. Loved singing our anthem in a little river by the ground in Rotterdam in 1982 during the Falklands War. Hate the way players have ignored the anthem in the past.
  14. I hate John Terry, with a passion. But I'd take him to war with me every single time. Have a new found respect for Gerrard as well now, both as a man and most definitely as a footballer. A wasted talent some might say, but this could be his hour. How is he a wasted talent, except for the fact he has played in whatever position his Country asked him to?
  15. Money talks in any job to be fair, but have to say from reading on Milner, he is a totally dedicated professional and will never forget his performance v West Ham when he was about to leave. Could easily have ducked out of it but played and was a credit to himself IMHO. Personally, I think he should have stayed for a while longer and showed his undoubted talent in the central midfield position
  16. John, I know what you mean, think he is doing an okay job for England, but if he had carried on at Villa, maybe he would be an England mainstay in the central position he excels in. There again, can you really blame him? Villa were going downhill and a massie pay increase. Think he has had decent game time with them, though second half of last season was usually a sub. The first season I think he played in most games.
  17. For present players, would love James Milner back in the central midfield position he excels. Getting so much stick for England, but works his socks off for the team in the right midfield position, a la Des Bremner
  18. Bremner, Mortimer, Cowans and Morley, along with Paul McGrath and Gary Shaw
  19. Totally agree cockneyvilla, where in London you from if you dont mind me asking, I work in North London
  20. How many games did he play, about 10, is it asking too much to give him some time to adjust?
  21. Lambert seems to be someone who knows what he wants and will do whatever is needed to achieve this. I dont not envisage players taking the mick out of him and the fans anymore. They will be on their bikes. Only trouble is on the wages they are, no club will want to pay that.
  22. Milner is a model pro, touched drink at 16 and decided he would wait till the end of his career to try it again. Great centre midfielder in the making, not sure Man City is his club, but lets be honest, Villa would be a massive backward step adn could we afford him anyway
