  1. Is Carew not pacey lost in essex. I think he and Crouch could be great together, but Portsmouth seem to be offering silly money anyway.
  2. General, great comments about the clubs stance on how you will conduct your affairs, 110% right IMO.
  3. General, I now live about 80 miles awayfrom VP but me and the lad get to most games, my daughter still love4s Darius Vassell as he scored openinjg goal when Carlton Cole looked great before your time. I really love whatr RL and you have done for the club, this probably has been answered before due to snidey comments in the papers about whose house is this There are perhaps silly rumours that you two are not so close, can you give us your version on that?.
  4. General, please get the scouts to watch a lad by the name of Veloso in Portugal. I know you have been told before, but the guy certainly has been in touch with Villa in the past regadrng the likes of Ronaldho and Boswinga when they were young kids. The man in question is going to sign on the forum in the next few days, but I can assure you he was telling me about Boswinga 18 months ago. He lives in Lisbon, but has been a Villa fan for 50 years, Ellis actually invited him to a game once in gratitude of his recommendations, but nothing came of them
  5. I would put a wager on Bouma not going, his contract will be sorted out. Olly wants a new experience, fair play IMO. Barry is a strange one, will he be the main man at Liverpool, Chelski or Arsenal. Absolutely no way, but does he want a team that are NOW at the champions league stage. I suspect from his body language today on the lap of honour he is gone, certainly hope I am wrong
  6. Think he has more class to be honest, looks a top player in the making
  7. We have to go for the jugular IMO. They are sh1te at the back, our lads should have fun. Must admit I dont like the thought of Zarate v Knight
  8. I have read it is around 4am, depending on other bouts, certainly not 2am
  9. amir khan will go all the way. his speed and power like that at that weight is scarey. Just want to see how he reacts when a class fighter gets in his face. The Scottish bloke did it a while back and he was ordinary. Was really expecting Earl to give him a stiff test, fair play to Amir.
  10. IMO, if Mayweather is going to win, it will be on points, but there again I had Graham Earl to beat Amir Khan!! More out of hope as my lad has done work with his trainers. I have had a tenner on Ricky to beat him between rounds 7-9, but must say am worried by the class and reach advantage of the pretty one
  11. I can see by your marks and your quotes on the players that you talk sense. What did you think of the change of tactics in midfield and how it worked?
  12. General Please accept my gratitude on the progress being made by the club since Mr Lerner took charge. As someone who was there in the old Third Division in the early 70's and the great days, it is a pleasure to see people actually not thinking we are a joke club any more. I work in London and they now realise Villa are a club going places. Well done to you all
  13. My first game was in Sep 75 when we beat them 2-1. The most vivid anger I recall is when Leighton Phillips got sent off at the sty in the first half and Andy Gray played centre half, was superb. We were winning 1-0 until tosser trev had a dive over Andys leg and we ended up losing 2-1. Someone else got sent off that night, if I am correct, first person gets a well done from me, if you want a 50-50, was a blue nose scouse layabout of a centre half
  14. Didnt do too bad, did he? Saunders made some great signings, but Mortimer has to be high up there. I remember moaning when he signed Peter Withe, complaining he was a donkey. Never ever made a football scout. Who would you say was his best value for money signing, though I am going off the thread.
  15. I really think this is a cracking idea. Do you remember who made his debut for us in that game, went on to be a decent signing
  16. Very good comments and should make people realise that this club is going forward again. When you look at the attacking potential from midfield and up front, it is better than for many a year. We need to get a right back, Villa fan in Lisbon on another site who I know well and remembers the old third division days with me says we have bid £3m for Boswinga but they are asking £5m. Says a deal will by struck by the middle of the week, he is in the last year of his contract apparently. Think we will also get a keeper and think we could be in for the best seaosn in many a year
  17. General Thank you for replying to my post about the online site. As someone who has supported the club for about 37 years, I have to say Mr Lerner and all (including yourself) are doing a fantastic job. I actually fought at the Holte hotel many many years ago. You will get the odd sceptic person, but our club could not be in better hands and some people have short memories. I have worked in London for 20 years and it is now a pleasure going into work knowing that our club is on the up. Long may it continue and ignore the very few moaners. The way you celebrated the history and future at the Sheff United game made me feel very proud. Have to say there were tears in my eyes when the past and present teams came out. Brilliant that the whole crowd embraced the situation.
  18. MuleAthon, a book was brought out for the centenary year that was a very good read. I know it is a long time ago, but suggest you get it if you are interested in the history of the club. When I first left school many years ago, I used to go the the library in town and did a massive dossier on the club from old evening mails and Sports Argus that were on fiche. One of my mates used it for his university topic and I never got it back
  19. General You are doing great things for the club along with Mr Lerner. However I think the on line shopping site is even worse than before. We have just bought two pairs of shorts when we only needed one as it does not show the things. When you get to checkout, it is not correct. It is only when the receipt comes throught we realised we had two pairs of shorts.
  20. Very interesting comments, point number 9 got me thinking though, Who did we get Kenny Swain from? Another very good post that was well thought, it took me a while to be picky. You have made some great points and I know from watching them at training that Saunders loved the Scouse type ede of players such as Withe (massive influence), Mortimer and Kenny Swain
  21. Some good comments, cant say I agree with Darren Bent being good value at his price. Think Viduka and Bellamy even are far better value. Koumas scored a good free kick against us when Hitz scored his cracking goal, as paddy stated. Good comments though, very interesting and good points made. I actually think Harewood could be compared quite soon to Viduka and Bellamy, though would not go quite as far to say he was a bargain
  22. Excellent posts by both blandy and peterms. We are a big club, but perhaps not as big as some of us percive us to be. We are improving and will continue to do so under the leadership of MON and Randy Lerner. Some of us have seen the very bad times and have seen a manager like Ron Saunders change the club around. Money talks alot more now and some clubs are being very aggressive in their attitude. I am happy with the way Villa are progressing, obviously need a bit more but am confident the manager will get them.
  23. PB, I was alive for both of the Ellis tenures as well. Shame you are being so negative about the current management, but that is your perogative. I wonder what he has done to jusify that though. I think it will take us time to grow to a top club. If you know Ellis two times, do you know Rotterdam and the season before. Were they supposedly top class players ?
  24. General I was a season ticket holder from 1974 to 1986, through the good and bad. I now live 80 miles away from the ground, but still go at every opportunity with my 14 year old lad. I phoned up about getting season tickets, but asked the lad if it would be possible for the club to sell tickets if we could not attend as my lad plays football on a Sunday afternoons and evenings are difficult with my work. He said there were things that may happen within the club to do this. I rang the following week about the cheap tickets in the North Stand, would not have minded paying the £250 required and missed out on a few games. The girl who answered was quite abrupt and said I was talking nonsense about the club possibly having plans to sell tickets on. I could not get down to get the cheap tickets because of work, but am still interested in getting a season ticket. Please can you tell me if there are things in place for the club to sell tickets on if you cannot make a game. My lad is really keen on us getting a season ticket, one of the few lads in Luton who wears a Villa shirt. Mr Lerner has one a great job for this club and long may it continue. Sorry if I have bored you, if you ever want to talk about the clubs history, I may be the man
  25. Claus Jensen, I would rather have John Jensen back from his Arsenal days. Need a good right back, goalie IMO, and then another striker in the Carew mould, Alan Smith IMO
