Ah man, I’m gutted. I know it’s obviously the nature of knock out sport and it sounds trite but that team deserves so much more than to be ‘just’ quarter finalists. The best Irish team of all time that I still think is the best team in the world. Just strangled by kiwi defence on the night. Who knows where they’ll be in four years and if they’ll ever have as good a team again. They’ll be losing some big hitters.

I was thinking exactly the same. Thought it was just me. Not long after, Barnes said he’d lost comms. I wonder if he’d lost it at the time of try.

Ref said he saw an attempted wrap? Not sure how because there wasn’t one. Textbook yellow. Owen Farrell does that and everyone shits themselves.

Ireland have been immense IMO. Just absolutely bossing things and seemed in complete control of every situation. Not just had an answer to everything opposition have thrown at them, but actually pre-empted it. SA aside, Scotland were the only other big test and they dismantled them. Can’t wait for the game later.

Just look at the quality of those Irish subs. If Lions was picked entirely on merit, you could make a very, very strong case for a full Irish match day squad. Off the top of my head, I can’t see any players from the other three nations who are as good as their Irish opposite number. I hope Farrell senior is up for the gig.

If a Lions XV was picked today, it would surely just be the Ireland team - and most of the subs too. Although Owen Farrell would obviously have to be squeezed in there somewhere.

The draw is a bit of a shocker, definitely done too far too early. The four best sides meeting in the QFs on one side of the draw, with two of England, Wales, Fiji and Argentina getting through to the semis from the other side. Scotland are better than all those teams and are likely going home.

Having Farrell at 12 undermines whoever plays at 10 and does them no favours with what he offers (or doesn’t) outside them. Still a mystery to me what consecutive international coaches see that the general rugby-watching public doesn’t.

I bought tickets for the England QF ages ago but after not being bothered about actually going for most of that time (because England were so boring and I didn’t expect them to qualify), I now can’t make it. Cost around £185 so hoping to sell it, particularly as I’m still on the hook for my share of our accommodation! I don’t suppose anyone on here is interested or knows anyone who might be? Marseille, Sunday 15th October. If not then I might have to go via a ticket reseller. Never used one before so hopefully it will be pretty simple.

Wouldn’t swap him for anyone. No other manager could’ve achieved what he has since he joined. Someone needs sacking if we haven’t already started growing his clones in the lab so he can manage us forever. Oh and I love his voice

He looks so slow, weak and generally un-athletic that I can’t understand how he’s still a professional footballer. How anyone at the club has seen anything from him that’s made him look a worthwhile signing, I’ll never know. I really thought our recruitment would be much better by now.

Not to add to the Tielemans pile-on but he just looks so weirdly unathletic. Relative to the other players on the pitch, he looks an absolute mess.

Proper game that. Loved it. Was pretty sure Ireland would win that after SA only took 3 points from the early battering. They’re absolute class and just know how to beat everyone. That’s despite a good 2/3 of their team having the faces of blokes twice their actual age who smoke 40 a day.

Really poor from England. Just no attack to speak of. Awful to watch. I’d imagine it would be more difficult to not formulate coherent attacking systems with the 30 best rugby players in the country. I can see why it’s bad but I don’t get how it can be so bad.
