Not a criticism of Martinez at all, it’s a genuine question/something I don’t get - Jorginho’s penalties. I think it’s established that he always waits for the keeper to move. He doesn’t strike the ball hard or near the corner, so why don’t keepers just not move until he’s struck it? It obviously not as simple as that. I’m missing some of the finer detail and I’m not claiming to know better than a pro keeper, but to this layman, it seems worth a go?

Dean Smith has forgotten more about football than I’ll ever know but I can’t say I’m surprised that our passing stats are so poor. I could be way off but it seems to me that our off-the-ball movement in possession is generally awful. I’ve thought for a while that it’s the main reason we give the ball away so often and/or just end up lumping it down the line. Our players often get isolated without anyone showing for an easy out-ball.

My opinion has hardened somewhat after hearing that interview. Seems to be completely in denial.

Really, genuinely sad about this but it looks like the end. Thoroughly decent guy who’s done more for the club than almost anyone. Always been proud to have him representing the club and a Villa fan to boot. Such a shame it seems like he’s taken us as far as he can. Which was a really long **** way in fairness. Thank you, Dean.

I hate to directly criticise manager’s decisions but taking off Buendia as opposed to Nakamba or Young seems like, on the surface, an absolute **** shocker. Don’t blame him for being pissed off.
