  1. Thrilled with tonight but just hope we don't look shattered on Sunday as a result, we've been running on empty for a few weeks now, somehow other than at the Emirates. At least we can rotate in a few players, annoyingly though Rogers has basically played a full 90 despite being benched and we're without Moreno and potentially Zaniolo. No Dougie still, but he's been off it for a while and we did look very good on Sunday without him involved, so I'm cautiously intrigued to see if it's the same again.
  2. Still on the bench tonight though
  3. At least with Arsenal losing already I could really enjoy that shoot out. 5th was already gone.
  4. Missing a corner like that is really really poor -- why can't VAR cover that? There's no objectivity in it, should take seconds to verify, and it's a really meaningful thing to get right.
  5. I think one reason some people really want CL, even over the Conference League trophy, is just a sense that absolutely nothing is guaranteed in football, and we've had bright horizons before that have faded away when we've not quite managed to make the next step up. I love this club right now -- I love Emi, I love Dougie, I love Ollie, I love the whole squad and most of all I love Unai. I don't want this fairytale era to end, and the best way to ensure it doesn't just yet seems, to me, to be getting into the Champions League now rather than later. It's absolutely fine to want a trophy more -- to each their own, and I come down on that side of things some days -- but I don't think those fan who would prioritise Champions League football are necessarily any shallower or missing something about football.
  6. But they also have one more team to get those coefficient points, right?
  7. Is that 18.125 just after tomorrow, or taking into account the guaranteed points from the semi final? Just asking as you mentioned projecting far ahead
  8. The draw has already been done so if they win they play each other in the semis. It's good for us because we're guaranteed a semi final win. Technically it lowers our points ceiling a bit because two semi final wins are better than one, but it also raises the floor massively.
  9. Why are people starting sentences with 'Why are people still worried about....' ??? Have you seen the last few weeks of football?
  10. It's still very much on if City and Arsenal win. City are City and Bayern are missing some better players apparently so it could happen. However with Dortmund advancing unexpectedly and Liverpool cruising out, I expect we'll need to win the Conference League to secure it, and/or hope City win the treble. Let's just finish fourth!
  11. 4-4, our season is over again
  12. Enjoyed that reaction to the miss from Simeone
  13. Just think how awful we'd be feeling now if we hadn't beaten Arsenal.
  14. 1-0 Dortmund.... not ideal for the coefficient
  15. Emi is quite vocal about how doing well with Villa means more than moving to a ‘bigger club’ and getting success quickly, how we’re not just here to take part, saying Ollie is being overlooked because he doesn’t play for a big six club, etc. — I think having someone like him so vocal in the changing rooms could be massive for changing the mindset around the club and getting players to buy into being this disruptive force challenging the established order, rather than being tempted by offers away. The togetherness you see on the pitch and the love lots of players seem to have for each other and the club suggests this is already happening.
  16. Yeah I meant the home win against Newcastle about a year ago. I remember that game felt like the first time we were going toe to toe with a team in the top six as actual rivals, not looking to pull off an outright upset. And we smashed it. I think it was the most exciting time to be a Villan in about a dozen years. Obviously it's only got better since then! I'm just comparing this result to previous exceptional moments in Emery's time here. Those two are the ones that stand out to me.
  17. I've been smiling all day about this. The Newcastle 3-0 win felt like a statement of intent. The City 1-0 felt like the arrival of something very special. This feels a confirmation that it's here to stay.
  18. I agree, I think if we get through the next two games with two wins we'll have done incredibly well. It would be disappointing not to win after beating Arsenal at the Emirates, but it's going to be really tough.
  19. I've always felt like the biggest issue with the North Stand rebuild was the 2 years it would have taken to build it leaving us without a fourth stand. If you could build the stand and magically slide it into place overnight I reckon we'd absolutely be going ahead with it.
  20. For sure.... equally, Arsenal and Liverpool could both be feeling like they've lost the title when they play Spurs, so might not be the worst time to face them either.
  21. Spurs will improve again this season, I can see them reaching 70, Sheffield and Burnley is as close to a guaranteed 6 points as you can get. They could absolutely nick a win and a draw somewhere else. Three wins and a draw from Bournemouth, Brighton, Chelsea and Palace though is probably all we need.
