On the subject of Grealish, he signed a 3 year contract this month last year. Hopefully its an extension he's talking about, as next year he will only have one year left (3 year contracts are crap, why we've accepted Baker and Weimann on them still bizarres me). A nice new 5/6 year contract ending in 18/19 will do nicely.

Thats what hes saying we think. That we shouldnt be offering him Bent type wages. And obviously we wont offer him that. He'lL be lucky to get Dunne/Collins wages imo.

He said 'He hopes for Villa' we arent going to give him a Bent wage. I assume, as in, Bent is on a ridiculous sum of money (supposedly a fair bit more than the 60-70k that often gets mentioned on here) so he's saying for our sakes not to offer him that. Which we wont. We'll offer 40, he'll reject, we'll offer 50, he'll reject and then we'll refuse to do anything and he'll eventually sign at 50k I hope.

I really cannot see it. Another £5m for me. At a push another £10m to sign a 'marquee' player. But I think the days of spending £25m in one window are gone. I like the route we're taking. I'd love a stand-out AM for circa £12m that still fits the 'young and hungry' philosophy mind but I really dont think it will happen.

Lovren has a lot of potential but he's very inconsistent and got sent off 3 times in what is, comparatively, a much slower league than ours. Theres every chance that he could struggle with the speed of this league if he was getting sent off that much in Ligue 1. But yeah, he could be a very good signing for Southampton. They're starting to get a few of these players in now with Banega, Ramirez and a few of their others. Seem to be like a (relatively) big spending version of us going for young, talented players. They have a lot of talent in their squad. I'd love to have players like Clyne, Shaw, Schneiderlin and Rodriguez here. Clyne Lovren Forren Shaw could potentially be a very good defence for years to come for Southampton.

Yeah I dont think theres any chance of £20m+ spending this summer unless Benteke leaves and we need to find a replacement. But even then I have my doubts Lambert will spend the £10-13m to find a ready-made replacement. Wonder how much we did spend last summer? There isn't quite as much money in the Bundesliga though and they signed him for €1m. £10-12m may get him but i'd still be dubious. However we have bid for, enquired about, spoken to or been linked with: Dempsey, Coutinho, Belhanda and now Kiyotake since Lambert took over. Denials of interest (Coutinho) and conspiracy theories (that i agree with) about Dempsey being bid for to close the Benteke deal aside those are some very good players that all play in the central attacking midfield role. If we can sign a player of those fours ilk before the close of the window I will be very very happy and we all know we need to add more goals and assists from midfield and this is a key position for us. A player like that threading passes through to our front three and chipping in with goals of their own would be crucial for us. Hopefully theres no smoke without fire
