    I'm not writing West Ham off, they've every chance of frustrating BL. I'm also going wins for us and the scouse so I think we will be approx 0.5 points ahead of the Germans after tonight. I'm usually dead wrong.

    Paper talk of Dan Ashworth imminently off to Utd. For a sporting director to go so soon into a new major moneybags project, surely that's kind of a bad signal for the club? Massive overhaul for them this summer - possibly on a tight budget - new DoF, new manager a possibility, and lots of their best players being hunted by other clubs. It's quite some way off what was expected.

    The race with the germans starts now that we are level, we have 3 games left this week Vs their 2 - just need to match or better their results from here on in. Reckon we'll see a couple of german teams in the next round, but none in the finals.

    Surely it's much easier for Man U to get UCL, by finishing 5th? Anyone with any doubts as to how doomed Utd are, and therefore how likely we are to get 5th - should read this article.

    Not that any country would wish members of their armed forces to be stuck in Gaza indefinitely, but surely the UN is the only force that can do the job of overseeing Gaza's transition from here on in? Israel can't be trusted to do it, the Palestinian Authority can't do it in the short term, and keeping the status quo equals famine and complete breakdown of order. There was talk a while ago of private contractors coming in - sadly I can see that as being the most likely outcome, lots of profit to be made...

    It is all about the coefficient. I think England will do it, and that 5th is already ours. The rest of the season after a week on Thursday will be weirdly lacking pressure.

    Last 5 games Spurs - 10 points Us - 7 points Bottlers - 4 points Hardly needs pointing out now but I can't remember when Utd were getting more points than us or Spurs.

    Unai will be going full strength for Lille and throwing Arsenal now, co-efficient points more important to getting UCL.

    Man U lost Evans to injury too, they've got a French teenager and slabhead, to stop Liverpool at the weekend.

    I think this will happen if we can't select a near to full strength side. Emery plays the odds.

    If we get it then we'll be ready, this season is Unai's blueprint for handling Europe and the league, only difference will be harder opposition in Europe. If we improve this summer there's no reason to think we can't be competitive in both competitions.

    Alan Duncan explicitly name checks Conservative Friends of Israel, he's now being investigated by his party. Fascinated to know how they think this doesn't simply confirm what he's saying about Israeli influence in British politics.

    The moment some British ex servicemen got assassinated, possibly with British weapons, you could almost hear the British establishment waking up. I have a feeling there is exasperation from the non governmental state powers that politicians are being so easily bought by Israel's lobbying efforts, and that finally we will see a rebalancing of the relationship.

    We don't want to be Spurs, or Arsenal, and certainly not Newcastle or Leicester. And we won't be.

    I guarantee I won’t be disappointed. Look at what we’ve achieved with what we’ve got, then imagine a gear above that. Extra income will not be spent on cast offs from Man U but that money, with the lure of UCL will see us get deals over the line with the likes of Nico Williams, who previously were not convinced enough. Im not sure the wider world understands the opportunity that Emery sees, he won’t say it out loud but UCL is his target, his only target.
