  1. It might be more relevant to the discussion if you could find evidence of HS1's benefits or otherwise. I mean if people are saying 'I'm not paying the extra for a train that is essentially slower', that wont ease congestion on the south east rail network into the capital. Has it had economic benefit outside London? We're going to spend £50 billion + on this we need to at least look at HS1.
  2. How is HS1 doing. All I can find is this less than glowing article from 2011. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/road-and-rail-transport/8423638/High-speed-rail-Britains-first-link-hasnt-worked-as-planned-say-critics.html It basically says it had led to reduced services on the old network, increasing overcrowding. People hadn't moved over to HS1 as its expensive and only stops at St Pancras in the capital, so time savings are lost.
  3. Absolutely…. Indeed, you are on a roll here….. where do I sign up? Oh…. oh dear… it was all going so well. Yes, anybody expecting the Green Party to "clean up the mess" is going to be more disappointed than a Man U fan watching the Champions League next season. I think you're quite correct. In the, unfortunately, unlikely event of a Green government, if they failed to 'clean up this mess significantly people would be hugely disappointed. However if the conservatives were elected, or Labour or the Liberal Democrats or UKIP or any combination of the four, I don't think many would be disappointed. You'd expect them to **** everything up.
  4. Well for a start we need to elect a government that listens. If you can't listen you're going to **** things up like this. We need to start from the fundamental, with better politics, more open government, and better democracy. The only party offering that for me is the Green Party.
  5. The NHS has rehired 3950 staff made redundant since 2010. Why has this happened under this governments 'restructuring'. It's utter incompetence.
  6. Be interesting to see if the failing airport can be made to turn a profit under public ownership.
  7. Disgusting. So their political incompetence is suppressing economic recovery, making it incredibly difficult for the unemployed to find any kind of work, never mind suitable work. On top of this they can't even get their job classified website right. They're utterly, utterly out of their depth this lot. Step aside and let people who know what their doing take charge. Tories: Cleaning up the mess
  8. Although politicians on the right declared it foolish at the time, and with much condemnation from the government in Westminster, the welsh assembly went ahead and nationalised Cardiff airport. Passenger numbers are up over 10% within the year. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-26600480
  9. When the government sold our Royal Mail to their mates on the cheap, as part of the sale, it has been revealed, was a database file called the PAF - postal address finder. A recent independent report has stated that selling this 'national asset' was a big mistake. http://www.ukauthority.com/tabid/64/Default.aspx?id=4627 I personally think the whole of the Royal Mail was a national asset and shouldn't have been sold, never mind on the cheap.
  10. Right. I know a fella who is willing to sell his Peavey bass amp with 15'' black widow speaker. He wants £300 but is willing to negotiate. I've heard some cracking things about these BW speakers, apparently they're the dogs...The seller has some top notch equipment, and was a semi pro musician for years but can't play any longer for age and health reasons. He's a really nice guy and I trust him when he raves about this amp. I'm going to see it tomorrow. I'll trust my ears and the seller before some random on the Internet, but I'm just trying to gather as much info about the amp before I go there. Has any muso in VT land ever heard, played through one?
  11. The independent professional consensus is that fox hunting is inhumane and an ineffective population control method. So that leaves tradition and jobs. Majority public will trumps tradition, especially in light of the above. Economically drag hunts can replace traditional hunting. So where is the problem? I don't see where the problem is, unless you simply enjoy the kill.
  12. He's slowly getting better, lets hope he continues working hard to improve his game. I really want him to succeed here.
  13. I like Delph, I like him a lot. Quick feet good control. He's been immense at times this season.
  14. I haven't been able to watch us this season hardly at all, so I'm far from an expert, but he's really looked class at times. The occasional switch off, but if he cuts that out he'll be great, because he looks like Ashley Cole in his prime a times defensively ..and Cole doesn't have his offensive attributes.
  15. Tony Blair 'achieved power', Adolf Hitler 'achieved power'. Tyrants achieve power, good people don't kill.
  16. RIP Tony Benn, his views became increasingly far far to moderate for the extremists that occupy Westminster.
  17. I'm not being funny, but other than farmers, (and, presumably the badgers), who cares? How does that rank on the scale of the country's immediate problems? I think that you will find that to certain elements of our society badgers and foxes are a hell of a lot more important than managing the economy.Farmers want TB spread controlled as they say its harming their industry. So it is about the economy. Fox hunting was a separate issue at the heart of many sections of society across the political and social spectrum.
  18. I'm not being funny, but other than farmers, (and, presumably the badgers), who cares? How does that rank on the scale of the country's immediate problems? Yeah, wot does the envoiromunt matta, f-em'! (Please stop posting the Tories/mess comment on every post)
  19. The house just voted to stop the badger cull. Government response? They're going to carry on regardless. That's our democracy at work.
  20. Pay cuts for nurses, bonuses for bankers. Tories : cleaning up the mess.
  21. Why the personal attack? I don't get it. You're a weirdo. Anyway. Remember when Brian May said the badger cull wouldn't work, and the government said 'of course it will!' ...well guess what. Maybe we should have a load of old rockers running the country. Tories : cleaning up the mess.
  22. Oh, and there was me thinking it was bad news... Tories : cleaning up the mess.
  23. Google it if you have time, Paul Lewis didn't provide a link. I did. There didn't seem to be anything else about it on the internet anywhere other than that one tweet. Paul Lewis is usually spot on with these things. It's a testament to the great work this government are doing that payday loan companies are prospering. Tories : cleaning up the mess.
  24. 300 DVA jobs lost in NI. We can't afford DVA staff. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-26559144 Tories : cleaning up the mess.
