  1. I read on Twitter that Emery has signed 19 players twice. E.g. Lo Celso.

I suspect that means he trusts certain Individuals and likes to works with players he knows can take his ideas on board.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we were linked to some Villarreal players, especially Lo Celso (I understand he’s on loan)

Get rid of bailey buendia and ings none of these guys have taken us to new heights 90 million wasted!!! and watkins too

We’d take a humongous loss on all three.

Its great being in the PL with lots of money but the downside is, if you get a transfer wrong, you’re stuck with it.

Who’s taking Ings off us now for anything other than a massive loss? Who’s giving us 30/38m for Bailey and Buendia? Nobody.

You can only afford to get a transfer wrong if you have CL money or huge commercial revenue. We don’t have the former and a couple of dodgy deals have helped with the latter but we need to be better in the transfer market.

Weve been a mess since we sold Grealish.

  3. It’ll be so interesting to see how this pans out.

For once, I feel as though we as fans don’t have the excuse that the problem is the manager and not the players.

If Emery can’t make it work then we probably have to admit we’ve pissed a load of money up the wall and our squad is average at best.

Blaming a manager is usually football fans’ denial that their team isn’t as good as they think or want it to be. It actually feels nice and refreshing that we absolutely shouldn’t have that excuse any more. Players like Buendia/Bailey and others who divide the fan base are going to either sink or swim and there will be nowhere for them to hide.

We’re going to find out a lot about our club and the players over the next 12-18 months.
    Bring it on.

  4. Frustrating. Not good enough at finishing  to be a striker and not technical enough to be a wide player.

He’ll be great from time to time based on his work rate but if we want to improve, this guy needs to be either on the bench or on the bench.

We desperately need a new wide player or two in the next window.

Was. He's done now. Stop living in the past, you can't judge a player on what he was 5 years ago.

And nor can people in here judge Buendia on what he did at Norwich. Scroll back a few pages and I’m sure you’ll see comments from people saying he’s going to come good based on his time there.

All we have is the here and now. And like you, I think Coutinho is underperforming but I’d still have him over Buendia on ability. Whether or not he deserves a place in the starting XI based on how he trains is a different matter.

Buendia gives you 100% and his work rate/desire is commendable. But then so is Ollie Watkins’ and I don’t see many people on here jumping to his defence.

Buendia is and has been poor at Villa. Might improve, might not, but I’m hugely disappointed in him given I was f***** buzzing when we signed him.

    Shows what I know.

Buendia has objectively performed better than Coutinho in their respective times at Villa. Coutinho has had what, 2 decent matches and one or two brief flashes outside of that.

Your use of ‘objectively’ is objectively wrong. That’s your opinion.

Coutinho is a better player than Buendia. It might be that Coutinho downs tools now and is shit for the rest of his time here but nobody can tell me Buendia is better. It isn’t even close.

Buendia works hard and endears himself to the fans. He shows glimpses of ability with his eye for a defence splitting pass but that aside, he’s generally very poor. Not quick, not strong, can’t beat a player and is pushed off the ball too easily.

As I’ve said before, I really hope I’m wrong but if you had a gun to my head now and asked me if Buendia is ever going to be a success here, I’d say not. He just doesn’t have the tools to be a top half PL player.

Don't mean to be toxic at all mate, apologies, it's just strange to see you getting at people for giving Buendia an easy time when you do the same for his direct competition who has performed poorer than him. It makes no sense.

I do agree that he's been disappointing but it's been a disappointing 12 months at Villa in general. I've seen enough from him to suggest he will thrive in a good team...which we currently are not. Compare that to Ings or Bailey who he signed with or indeed Coutinho. He's shown a lot more than them during his time here to deserve patience.

The toxic comment wasn’t a response to your post, that was me just trying to distance myself from being a Twitter/Facebook kinda Villa fan where everyone is shit and the world is burning!

Look, there’s no getting away from the fact I rate Coutinho and love watching him play. I actually don’t think he’s been anywhere near as bad as some have made out on here even in the games where he hasn’t been all that involved. Perhaps I am biased in that sense!

Buendia frustrates me. Maybe you’re right and its a symptom of the team being poor but there’s things about his game I don’t think are coachable.

Let’s hope you’re right and I’m wrong because a team outside of the top 6 (hell, the top 10 even!) cannot afford for £38m players not to play their part.

  8. I’d like to see him start as our No. 10 in a 4-2-3-1 system. He is a better player than Buendia and deserves a shot at it.

Admittedly he has been poor in his last couple of outings though.

This would hold some weight if he wasn't class in his first PL season with Norwich.

Another excuse. Tom, why don’t you judge him on his time here?

Bailey was class at Leverkusen, doesn’t mean he’s going to be a success here. Coutinho was the best player in the PL at Liverpool once upon a time, nows he’s on the bench for a club fighting relegation (as much as it pains me to say).

Don’t mean diddly squat. Do you think Buendia has played well for Villa in his time here? Don’t answer based on what he could become, or what he might be played in a different position, how has he been since joining?

  10. 1 hour ago, Keyblade said:

That's just not true. Ironically you're saying all this because he's a famous Brazilian who was world class in the Obama era and was our highest profile signing ever.

Coutinho has had about 5 good games in a Villa shirt, is costing us the same if not more over his 4 year contract (!), with no resale value and has looked abject for about 6 months now. Not a peep from you though. "He's inconsistent"...and Emi's been what? Consistently shit? I normally agree with you mate but you're waffling here.

I’m really not waffling and I’ll refrain from it turning toxic.

Ok, perhaps I’ve been more complimentary of Coutinho when others haven’t been as kind but let’s leave him out out of the equation for a minute. We don’t have to talk about Coutinho to either prove or dispel an opinion on Buendia.

Buendia, for me, has been largely poor since his arrival from Norwich. That opinion is based on what I’ve seen, regardless of whether he’s been ill treated or not played in his preferred position. He’s been poor. I just don’t know how you can get away from that.

He might go on to be the greatest player this club has ever employed. Great. But right now, he looks like a colossal waste of money based on what I’ve seen over the past 18 months.

And I was all in on him. I’m sure if you look back at my posts when we signed him, I was ecstatic. Probably without good reason, but we’d signed a young Argentinian who’d been courted by Arsenal and he was our record signing. I’ll go as far as to say I thought he could replace Grealish and perhaps even be better!

All of the positive posts on here tend to talk about what he COULD be played in this position, played in that position and under a new manager. It’s just excuse after excuse.

I don’t rate him. I don’t think he has the physical attributes to be exceptional for us at this level. Too slow, weak and pushed off the ball too easily. You can’t teach those things.

Hope I’m proven wrong @Keybladebut this guy gets an easy ride.

Reckon if Wilson played for us he'd end up firing blanks too. Our goal scoring coach must be Mr Tumble.

Firing blanks or not, I won’t have a bad word said against Mr Tumble.

  12. So when we played him on the right and he didn’t perform it was Gerrards fault. When he played as a narrow 10 under Gerrard and he didn’t perform, it was the managers fault. Now he’s not performing as a number ten, and he isn’t because he was rubbish in the first half against Brentford despite what people say, it’s because he’s been in and out of the team, yeh?

Whats his best position then? Because I see a player that lacks pace and strength and loses the ball way too often. Where do you play a player like that?

Of all the players that have played poorly over the last 12 months, and there have been plenty, this guy gets every excuse under the sun. He’s been just as bad as Watkins, McGinn, Bailey and co.

Willing to give him a chance under Emery but my God, I don’t rate him anywhere near as highly as most on here.

Kevin DeBruyne loses the ball a lot and they have similar passing stats. Its what happens when you take risks to try and create chances

Ok. This idea that he loses the ball a lot because he takes risks is just daft. On occasion, of course, he likes to thread a pass through so we may lose possession.

Watch the clip on the page before. Is he taking risks when he loses the ball under pressure? Doesn’t look like it to me.

He’s got a great work ethic and he arguably deserves to start ahead of Coutinho on that alone, but we’ll need better if we’re to fight for Europe.

  14. The one pre-requisite to any signing, for me, is pace. We lack pace throughout the team.

We definitely need a winger and the Sarr episode makes me think we’re in for one…with pace. That’s reassuring and shows the club perhaps recognise a lack of pace and width is an issue in our side.

Having Emery here may allow us to bring in someone better than Sarr. Are there any decent wingers in Spain available…?

Remember the 1 nil loss in the cup vs Manure last season. That was the last game before Coutinho came in. Buendia was brilliant that night. Caused chaos .

also lost the ball a lot.
