  1. I don't want him as manager but he's a lot better then what people say. He's won a League Cup. Got to the final of the UEFA Cup albeit thrashed by an excellent Sevilla side. Won the Dutch title without managing one of their league giants. Oh and Boro have done well since he left them... He's had his real low points though, England was a total cockup and some of the performances Middlesbrough put in, particular against us was embarrassing.
  2. If the players didn't like Houlliers methods as they were too strict, Van Gaal will be even worse...
  3. Regarding O'Neill I don't think anyone can deny that while he was with us, we had success. The problem with the guy is that he builds a team for himself, he has no long term outlook and it's no coincidence that teams struggle after he leaves them nor because he was THAT good. He has his buddies in the media who make it seem otherwise and this will always make him favourite for every manager job and highly regarded in the country. Excellent motivator and coach, but lacking in other areas of management and as many people say he's stuck in Cloughie era.
  4. As far as I'm aware he can't leave this summer anyway due to the rule of only being able to play for two teams permanently in 12 months.
  5. Without any doubt. Ancelotti is great manager. But do you really think he will arrive to Villa Park? He costs, and do we have the money to get him and to buy outstanding players? Do the club have ambitions to be in top four? Why did we got Houllier? To create future team. But he is sacked after nine months. Is it possible that our goal is to create another future team? We had MON, we needed money to buy some players. MON didn't get the money. I think Ancelotti is too big for Villa. Sorry. (of course I will be happy if he comes. It would be statement -Villa wants to be in Champ. League-) I would normally agree with you, however... The guy wants to stay in England and I don't see any other realistic possibility unless Redknapp was to leave Spurs this summer. People mention QPR will have money to spend but there has been no proof yet that the money is there and have already made a set wage budget for next season which isn't that big.
  6. Some of the posts in here are embarassing to say the least. 1) Hughes isn't a certainty yet. 2) Ancelotti might not want to come here. 3) Hughes playsattractive football and has been appreciated at every club he's been at apart from City. 4) Hughes doesn't mean mid table mediocrity. 5) Why has the vibe changed just because Ancelotti was linked. Amazing how people can have their emotions swayed by the media.
  7. Who has done well since he joined them. Don't know what you're trying to prove there
  8. I hope people don't be against Hughes if he was to join us just because of Ancelotti rumours today. Imo he's a good manager and will do well with us if he ends up here.
  9. Hughes says he hasn't been approached by another club...
  10. i dont get this hughes is out of contract right now since he didnt take the option for a second year at fulham, why would we contact them? Showing another club a bit of respect by telling them we don't want their manager so there's no need for them to worry. he's not their manager he's out of contract They want him to stay, if we don't want him he's likely to stay there...

  12. I can imagine now, everybody getting excited over Ancelotti, it seems a dead certain he's coming then a newsflash on the Villa site shows McClren holding the Villa shirt up. Wouldn't put i past us after the past 12 months, it's been a crazy year!
  13. read what Kendrick said closely. he hasn't said Ancelotti is coming to Villa. he said Ancelotti MAY be on the SHORTLIST. http://www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-sport/aston-villa-fc/aston-villa-news/2011/06/02/birmingham-mail-exclusive-carlo-ancelotti-is-the-man-aston-villa-want-to-replace-gerard-houllier-97319-28807143/2/ I have read closely... I also said it seems to be Ancelotti who we're going after, not that he will certainly come.
  14. Yeah also seems like it's going to be Ancelotti, especially with Kendrick saying so. There hasn't been much he's been wrong about in the past 12 months. Not overly excited as other people as I don't think it's a simple that because he's a top class manager he will work out well at the club. I'd happily take him though and fair play to the board it'd be a huge sign of ambition.
  15. Agree with this, using trophies as proof as how good a manager is when you've managed clubs like Mark Hughes as it completely pointless. If what he has done isn't good enough in his career then quite frankly Martin O'Neill must have done a terrible job here as Hughes did almost similar during his time at Blackburn with a weaker side. He has since had a very short spell at Man City and with the amount of players coming in, it was always going to take time to work whilst he has made a bright start at Fulham. But oh no... He hasn't won the Champions League with those clubs or a league title so he's not good enough....
  16. Once in a generation manager, I think he has bigger fish to fry tbh.
  17. I see McClaren has a big fanbase, judging by the poll VT would explode if he was appointed
  18. I'd agree with your assessment, it did feel very similar. It was a fun watch though and yeah Neeson was as great as ever. Diane Kruger was good too, can't say the same about January Jones though...
  19. I don't think McClaren is a bad as people make out but deary me I hope it's not him. Fans would be on his back from day one too...
  20. As I said in the other thread nothing will happen until a new manager comes in. With Houllier recovering for the next few months GMac won't need to leave the club and if for any odd reason the new manager wanted to keep him we'd have wasted money paying off his contract. However if the new manager didn't see him in his plans then he'd be paid off and leave.
  21. There's always something you don't agree with!
  22. DVIN you posted it in the wrong thread
  23. Pretty much how I feel, the bid would have to be at least £30m for us to be even interested.
