  1. Losing less games is part of Downings contribution to the team. We hold onto the ball better.
  2. I'm sorry but you don't seem to appreciate what Downing brings to our team, and that us the ability to hold onto the ball. He runs with it, covers 15 yards and passes it compared to say Young who runs 30 yards, crosses and loses possession. That is not a dig at Young, they are different types of wingers but to have the mixture in our team is to our benefit. Gabby and Young were always our main counter attacking players, Milner has decent pace but he was never on their level. In fact Milner and downing have similar pace I would say. And remember the goal against Blackburn away, who were the counter attacking players? Downing and Milner. Sometimes you just have to accept peoples opinions but sometimes they are just wrong. In saying that Downing is slightly off form I think with some passes going astray and some dwelling on the ball.
  3. Liverpool have Torres to return. We have Warnock. Spurs have? City have? :? Remembered Lennon actually!
  4. VILLA: Friedel, Luke Young, Dunne, Collins, Cuellar, Downing, Young, Milner, Petrov, Agbonlahor, Heskey. Subs: Guzan, Sidwell, Carew, Delfouneso, Davies, Delph, Beye. SPURS: Gomes, Bale, Bentley, Huddlestone, Palacious, Modric, Crouch, Defoe, Dawson, Corluka, King. Subs: Alnwick, Kaboul, Jenas, Gudjohnsen, Bassong, Kranjcar, Walker.
  5. Correct (amongst other player sales). Like it or not, player sales do actually factor into net spending ... so what is your point? A typical response. The original argument was the silly view are Spurs are "laughable" for spending a lot in recent years yet failing so far to reach top 4. When it's pointed out that Spurs have come closer to top 4 than Villa in these recent years, and when it's further pointed out that Villa have spent far more in net terms than Spurs in the last two years, and thus when that original argument is shot down, then ..... .... the original argument is dropped, the subject quietly changed and a new line of attack opened up. If you wish me to acknowledge that Villa have finished top 6 more times that Spurs during the Prem era, then I'm quite willing to (again) do so. Happy now? Unlike some on here, I don't shy away from facts, nor desperately seek endless, ground-shifting, argument-changing, subject-changing opportunities - usually based on false facts and silly claims - to rubbish rival clubs. TBH I have no idea why you are on this site. You get nothing but abuse! Are you some kinda masochist?
  6. I disagree with this one like I disagree that Corluka is a bad player. Bale is excellent going forward but is a poor defender. However he is only 20 and has been getting a bad rep for about 2 years now. But he will still be the same player on Saturday so let's go for him. 8)
  7. Exactly, their back four are very suspect. Corluka is an absolute shambles of a player in my opinion and we should really exploit that fact. Although, I'm going to go for a sneaky 2-1 win to us. I think we may just be able to squeeze a win out of it. Corluka a shambles of player? Seriously? I think he's a bit of a Cuellar at RB, i.e. not his natural position but he's a bloody good defender. Surprising opinion.
  8. They've tightened up with Mancini in there and have Kompany playing CB who is probably their best CB at the moment. I can't see Lescott getting in the team when he is fit. It was never about the players, it was the fact that Hughes couldn't organise the team defensively at all. I don't really agree, they have had players out and are making do with that young centre back but he looked very shakey against Man U in the semi finals. When you supposedly have unlimited money I can't understand why they wouldn't get some better quality options at the back. Ya they had injuries but now have Toure back, Onouha back, Lescott back soon and Kompany and Boyata. When you look at a team like SHA *spits* you realise you don't need superstars to have defensive discipline.

  10. In all seriousness, I think Spurs have made a serious error getting rid of Keane. If Defoe gets injured for any length of time they are in trouble.
  11. Love the honesty! Was out for 18 months and did a little work in Gym but then got bored and thought by playing 1/2 games a week, I'd get fit. I haven't. So do go to the gym and do things regularly and eat properly or you won't get fit. Saying this, if you score enough before you have to go off, it doesn't matter And you said this in the diets thread: So who's right?
  12. Well we all knew we needed a player to replace Laursen and when Dunne was signed as that player some were positive, some were ambivalent and some were against it. It's a very good thing for everyone that the expectations have been met, surpassed or blown away.
  13. I've declined to vote, and it's been said already, but imagine this poll on Sept 1st! Dunne had come through a very poor season at City, was effectively being kicked out while Laursen the hero had been forced to retire just months before.
  14. Watching the stream, I didn't know what had happened. I was the same. Wait? what? It crossed the line? Then on the replay it actually hit the net it was so far in!
  15. FULHAM: Schwarzer, Kelly, Hangeland, Baird, Nevland, Duff, Hughes, Murphy, Zamora, Smalling, Davies. Subs: Gera, Riise, Zuberbuhler, Stoor, Greening, Dikgacoi, Elm. VILLA: Friedel, L Young, Dunne, Cuellar, Collins, Downing, A Young, Milner, Petrov, Agbonlahor, Heskey. Subs: Guzan, Davies, Shorey, Beye, Sidwell, Delph, Delfouneso.
  16. Click Very worrying if those 2 were injured. Zamora is back BTW, played against Spurs.
  17. We NEED to win. For the fans and the league table.
  18. Vermaelen suffers suspected broken leg. WTF? Didn't seem that hurt.
  19. Downing was poor, he looks mentally tired. Cuellar was frustrating in an offensive sense but that's usually expected when he's right back. The rest were pretty good. Not enough chances on the ground in the box but that is to be expected against the better teams. I would have liked to have seen Campbell tested more but it didn't. We have to win at fulham or we are in a slump.
  20. Jesus **** Christ, how was that not a free on Dunne?
