I think tomorrow morning is the critical time. If you can get Sky Sports News, turn it on at about 7.15 on Monday morning, if there isn't a yellow ticker tape at the bottom of the screen saying Villa have received another bid, then I don't think there will be one at all.

damn you've got me really nervous now

I'd be surprised if Padfield didn't bid in the next couple of days. I don't see what he had to gain last week by saying he was going to bid if he wasn't really.

Well, Neville hasn't put in a bid yet despite all the talking he did. I'm sure this Padfield chap would like to make an offer, but I'm not sure if he's able to put together an offer that wouldn't be turned down be turned down before it even got anywhere near Doug's desk.

He won't bid if he hasn't got the right backing.

Neville won't bid imo. He knows he cannot beat Lerner and any bid would just be wasting more of his time and creating even more unpaid work for him.

Are the people in the know certain that AV06 won't be bidding for the club this week?

I am not sure that I can wait three more days.

It is like waiting for exam results, knowing that you should have passed but you never know for certain.

I'll second that...i hope not

Neville definitely won't bid, imho, and I've been thinking that for a while now. I don't think we'll see any new bids, to be honest.

I think there might very well be an announcement to the SE tomorrow morning from one of the other groups...... and a positive one (guess work only and no inside information)

I guess that Denis' guess is a correct guess, I guess

Just checked the LSE and no further info posted regarding an alternative cash offer coming in from AV06. I would suspect nothing today, as if you look at recent notices published regarding the PLC, both Final Results and details of the 1st offer from RAL, this time last week, were posted at 7am.

I can't see how they can put a bid now surely, unless they are going to be right bastards and submit it first thing Wednesday morning

One thing I need clearing up....Does anyone know if they do bid, can Ellis just knock it back and say no thanks I'm not recommending it ??? :?

Yep, and if they do bid and it somehow gets past Rothshilds (which I don't think it will) I'm 100% certain Ellis will tell them to do one. Ellis will look like a prat if he recommends another bid - its not gonna happen.

He can (as has been said before)..

Agree with Jimmy Greaves - Doubt its going to happen - think probably any investors in AV06 may turn their attention instead to the Barcodes as they'res rumours of a takeover there too!

Yes Ellis (or Rothchilds) can indeed knock it back.

Just thought though - technically the ten days would not expire until 7am on Thursday morning so they have until then to bid.

I wondered that as well. It appears that someone else tried to buy the other major shareholder out a while ago and he wasn't interested. But in this instance it might prove harder to stop. Freddie Shepherd apparently only owns about 28% - while the other shareholder who has been approached owns 40% + of the shares.

Newcastles value is also higher than AVFC at about 81 million - and of course we don't know of the debt situation there.

As for the AVFC situation - I don't think anyone at Rothschilds etc would be happy if there was a last minute bid and would likely reject it outright. I suspect anyway that AV06 were so far behind the game they have too much to catch up on. After all, Lerner has been in this deal for months prior to anyone knowing about it. AV06 had only just come to everyones attention just a matter of weeks ago - including it seems Rothschilds and AVFC.

I can't imagine the press statements that have been coming out the past couple of days, coupled with the letter to Shareholders and its announcement to the LSE about returning certificates would have even been considered unless there was absolute certainity that no one else stood a chance.

My thoughts EXACTLY!!! think I said as much on other thread

If I can get hold of the one of the Investments managers I work with at Stockbrokers I use, who specialise in looking at this sort of thing I'll have a word about Villa T/O situation see what they reckon; but from what I gather already, the City consider this a "done deal"

And of course, it would appear AV06 could have their wrists slapped for commenting on their bid before actually placing a formal bid on the table.

If they have indeed breeched LSE rules (and from what I can gather they did) then that would also be a big black mark against them.

Okay I won't rest until either the Reading game (which we are now going to - said be damned and got cheap N. Stand tickets) - and RL is there watching the game and announcement made - or 7am Thursday when we know the LSE could make an announcement to do with the previous days information.

But I just consider it too much of a coincidence that the 10 days falls on the evening of the Reading game.

Damn wheres Thetrees when you need to know what Lerners jet is doing.
