Was shocked to find this thread but very pleased! Been following the Giants since 87. Last Christmas a mate of mine in NY took me to see the last Giants game in Giants stadium against the Panthers. Shocking game but stunning tailgate party!

The old stadium was big but the new one dwarfed it. Will hopefully try that one out this season.

UTV - Go G-Men

Awesome! Another Giants fan to annoy Rob, happy days! Welcome aboard!

Was just watching 2007 Giants America's Game on YouTube and this was a related video.

America's Game Moment: 1986, Phil McConkey

Hadn't really heard of him to be honest, but thought this was pretty great. Reminds me of Tyree in the 2007 Giants team. Big play, TD and a special teams guy who's come good in the big game. (albeit all to a lesser extent than Tyree).

ALBANY, N.Y. -- After spending the past 10 months in Los Angeles rehabbing his back, Shawn Andrews is ready to return to the football field.

The former Eagles Pro Bowl offensive lineman signed with the New York Giants in the early morning hours Friday and promised to give everything he has in what he called his final run at playing in the NFL.

Andrews, 27, signed a six-year "prove it" deal with a lot of consideration in the second year, according to his agent, Rich Moran.

Andrews' contract could be worth as much as $32.5 million, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

In 2010, the Giants take very little risk as Andrews will make just $1.5 million, which includes a $250,000 signing bonus and a $1.25 million base salary.

If he is injured, he has a split salary that reduces his salary to $650,000.

But 2011 is when the Giants will have to make a bigger commitment. Andrews is scheduled to collect a $3.5 million bonus on the 30th day of the league year. He can earn $500,000 in workout bonus money and has a base salary of $3 million for a total compensation of $7 million.

From 2012 to 2015, he is scheduled to make $1 million in roster bonuses and $500,000 in workout bonuses each year, as well as an annual $4.5 million base. That's $6 million a year.

"I'm laying it all on the line," Andrews said after watching his first Giants practice. "Not that I haven't before, but this is it. The Giants are going to get everything from me."

"The back is feeling pretty good," added Andrews, who had surgery on his back this past December. "I've been working hard. Going hard. Not that I never worked hard in my life, but this is my last attempt at it. I'm going all out. I'm selling out right now."

Critics in the past have questioned Andrews' motivation while he was in Philadelphia. The 6-foot-4, two-time Pro Bowl guard has had to overcome a broken leg during his rookie season, weight problems and a serious back injury in his seven-year career.

He has not played since 2008, when he had his season cut short after two games due to a back injury. He missed training camp that season and later said he was suffering from clinical depression. Then came the back injury that kept him out for almost two seasons.

The Eagles finally released the talented offensive lineman -- known for his colorful personality -- in March. When asked whether he failed a physical with the Eagles, Andrews said, "That's kind of tricky right there. I won't say that ... nah, I didn't. I don't really want to get into that and make it a battle.

"The timing of my releasing was very untimely. I'm a Giant now. That is all I can say and rest my hat on."

Andrews promises that he is mentally into football and motivated to return to the form that made him one of the game's best offensive lineman and a Pro Bowler in 2006 and 2007.

"My head is into the game; it has always been in the game," Andrews said. "I just had some setbacks there, and it was untimely and I heard every excuse for myself of why things happened back in 2008 that happened. We all go through things. And a lot of people I've learned that point the finger are probably going through a lot of things themselves and it just makes them feel stronger to point the finger at someone else. The God that I serve is a forgiving God and a God of second chances, so why not give a guy a second chance who is passionate about what he does?"

Giants coach Tom Coughlin said Andrews is in excellent physical and mental shape.

Andrews spent the past couple of days with the Giants and had dinner with general manager Jerry Reese before sitting down with Coughlin for half an hour Thursday.

"He had interviews with basically everybody here," Coughlin said. "He went through some issues and had the back and some other issues that he had to deal with. Sensing now that he is really motivated, has both feet on the ground, really wants to play. He does indicate the desire he has to get back into the game."

The Giants' starting guards, Chris Snee and Rich Seubert, have been injured in camp but Coughlin said Andrews' signing is not an indication of how Snee or Seubert is doing health-wise. Snee has been dealing with a sore knee, and Coughlin said on Thursday that the guard was making his way back soon. Seubert broke a bone in his left hand early in camp, but the veteran has been practicing and is expected to be ready for the season opener next month.

The Giants have used William Beatty at left tackle and moved starting tackle David Diehl to guard while Snee sat out.

Coughlin does not know what position Andrews will play, but Andrews said he is willing to play at tackle or guard. The Giants, who waived offensive lineman Cliff Louis, have monitored Andrews' rehab for months and were one of several teams interested in him, according to the former Pro Bowler.

Now, like former teammate Donovan McNabb, Andrews is playing for a rival in the NFC East.

Andrews signed with the Giants at 1:45 a.m. ET. As his agent and the team were hammering out the contract, Andrews played the video game "Angry Birds" on his iPad.

"Isn't that ironic?" Andrews said with a laugh.

"It was a lot," Andrews said of his time in Philadelphia. "I don't really want to harp on that. The past is the past. The only time I look into the rear view is for the cops, and I don't speed. I kind of leave that where it is."

ESPN

I like, depth on the line is needed and not much in the way of guarentees in the contract.

  • 2 weeks later...

Moss is on IR so his time with the Giants should be done!

Smith, Nicks, Manningham and Barden will all make the roster, it then depends if we keep one or two more. If one I think it will be Hagan for his special teams play, if it's two the Cruz has to be in.

We have also traded for QB Sage Rosenfels and their return specialist RB Darius Reynaud from the Vikings for a 5th and conditional 2012 draft selection. Good moves imo.

Brandon Jacobs is unhappy after being demoted to the No. 2 halfback behind Ahmad Bradshaw, and he mouthed off a little more than a week before the season opener against the Carolina Panthers.

The comments to ESPN New York after the Giants' 20-17 win over the New England Patriots caught Tom Coughlin off guard on Friday.

Coughlin took time to sit down with Jacobs to explain that the Giants have always been a team that uses two running backs and that is not changing, even though Bradshaw will get the first call.

"Nothing has changed," Coughlin said in a conference call. "The big thing that is important to realize is that Brandon is healthier than he's ever been prior to the start of the season and that's a good thing, so we're looking forward to the opportunity to play our multiple running game.

Jacobs, who gained 835 yards last season after 1,000-yard seasons the previous two years, expressed his frustration after failing to get a carry on a night that the Giants rushed for 160 yards on 32 attempts.

"No one's your friend in this business," he told ESPN. "This is a cutthroat, backstabbing business. That's just the way it goes."

Bloody hell mate, grow up and stop moaning.

There really isn't anything to moan about, they'll split carries pretty much evenly.

To be honest, I think it's more just the management thinking he was a bit lazy last season after getting his big pay day, 'demoting' him is just their way of trying to make him work harder I reckon.

Manning was great, the INTs weren't his fault, put up good numbers otherwise and made some big throws in tough situations. 8/10

Bradhshaw showed why he is the #1. Sarted poorly, but had a good 2nd half. Finished the game with a late TD, which he set up himself with a big run. 7/10

Jacobs was very disappointing. 44 yards on 12 carries, when one of them went for 22 is just bad. Missed a few blocks on pass plays too. 5/10

Nicks just seems to get a TD everytime he receivs the ball. 3 TDs with some good moves to lose his man. PotG 10/10

Manningham made some huge plays, pretty much every catch he made seemed to be for a 1st down, usually on a 3rd down play too. At fault for one of the INTs though. 8/10

Smith was pretty quiet for the most part. Reliable and solid, but didn't get the ball his way all that much. 7/10

OLine was very hit and miss. In pass protection, they were great, but their run blocking wasn't that impressive, they got toally owned in the 1st half in that aspect, but improved in the 2nd. Too many penalties again! 6/10

Dline had a beast of a game overall. 1st quater they didn't show up much, but then 4 sacks, what seemed like 50 hurried passes and a few forced fumbles. 8/10

LBs started poorly, Panthers just ran us over the first half, helped the pass rush greatly in the 2nd half. 7/10

DBs probably came into the season with the biggest question mark. It was only Matt Moore, but they made a mess of him, 3 picks and covered well for the most part which forced Moore to just throw it away. A few big 3rd down completions by the Panthers though, a little disappointing. 8/10

Special Teams were pretty embarassing for the most part. I recall a few penalties on kick-offs, 2 punts with no hang time, a punt that got blocked for a safety and the Panthers repeatedly returning the ball to near the half way line on kick offs. 3/10

Agree

Disagree, Jacobs average was only 0.1 worse than Bradshaws. Both backs had to suffer horrible o-line play with constant pressure in the backfield early. Both improved throughout the day and if it wasnt for the big run bradshaw puts up numbers of 19 carries and 37 yards. Both improved throughout the game as the blocking got better.

Agree, im dropping Nicks to a 9 though for the tip pick and a few other drops.

They improved but were gash to start so im saying 5.

Agree, D on the whole was solid although not tested much as we made Carolina one dimensional.

Special Teams were pretty embarassing for the most part. I recall a few penalties on kick-offs, 2 punts with no hang time, a punt that got blocked for a safety and the Panthers repeatedly returning the ball to near the half way line on kick offs. 3/10

Agree, poor all around.

TE depth is a concern indeed, although we have waived Brian Kehl to promote Bear Pascoe to the active roster due to Boss's concussion. I thought he should have made it anyway so its good to have him back on the roster, although i liked Kehl too. By all accounts he was responsible for the blocked punt and seemingly bit the bullet for it!

“I don’t think the coaches gave us a chance and I don’t think we gave ourselves a chance,” Rolle said. “It seemed like they weren’t into the the game. No one was enthused, there was no excitement, there was no swagger out there on the field, which actually drove me crazy,” Rolle added. “I don’t really understand what it was.”

“I saw some things that I wasn’t too fond of…in that locker-room,” Rolle said.

100% my thoughts exactly. For once im pleased to see a player call out his team mate and coaches, this team needs leadership and maybe he is stepping up into that Rolle..............

We need to step up big time next week, after what happened 4 years ago I want us to smash the living shit out of the Titans, especially Vince Young!

If we jump up on them early and make them chase the game passing it could get ugly. If we get them to abandon the running game we will rape them!

That said i could see CJ2K running for 200+ on us if the players are told/decide to play like softies again.

Intensity and physicality is key again this week. That said id load the box with 9 men and make them throw it or run through that, which tbf, CJ2K could still probably do anyway!
