Aston Villa Foundation (Charity)

I was originally just going to put up a thread appealing for donations (which I will still do below!) but noticed there wasn't a Foundation thread and it would be good if, as an Aston Villa supporters forum, we helped advertise, promote and support the official arm of Aston Villa's community projects.

The Foundation do so much great work for the local community and Birmingham charities in general. I couldn't possibly cover all the different projects and events they do, both one-offs (like the quite well publicised Big Sleep Out) and on going programmes such Generation Gains and Think Football. The initiative sees the delivery of projects and activities in and around Birmingham to promote sport, health, wellbeing, education and inclusive opportunities.

You may be more aware of schemes like the Fifty50 draw and the term 'Supporting Our Own' which are growing in prominence on match days. If you'd like more info then click https://www.avfc.co.uk/foundation

I'm not sure if the mods could add this as a sticky thread if they deem it appropriate? I'll add my more specific plea as a separate post...

So to my specific plea...

On the 28th March I will join a number of other players in an attempt to play a 24hr Football match in the Academy at Villa Park in aid of Mental Health projects for the Aston Villa Foundation.

Mental Health is beginning to finally gain the same recognition as physical ailments and is a cause that is close to my heart... Well, because I have needed that support and Aston Villa's Think Football programme has provided me with it! Think Football is a programme that provides weekly football for anyone who suffers from depression, anxiety or the multitude of mental health labels. We also work with people suffering with dementia, learning difficulties and those just needing help.

The event will also help lots of other projects with the focus on Mental Health for all ages and across the community.

If anyone in the VillaTalk family would like to sponsor me then it'd much appreciate it. My page is directly linked to the Aston Villa Foundation and I beg that you tick Gift Aid so the Foundation get that little bit extra too.

Thank you to anyone who donates!

Quote

After it was announced that all Premier League action is suspended until at least April 3, Aston Villa revealed that 850 staff packed lunches set for Saturday's game against Chelsea are to be donated to homeless charities.

Frank Lampard's Chelsea side were due to travel to Villa Park at the weekend but all matches are off due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Revealing their goodwill gesture on social media, Villa placed a call-out to neighbouring charities if they wanted to collect the food parcels.

Staff lunches and food pre-pared to be used in hospitality areas will now be made available to charities helping feed the homeless.

In their tweet, Villa wrote: '850 staff packed lunches and hot food for tomorrow's postponed game is being donated to support homeless charities.

'If your organisation is interested and able to collect food from Villa Park by 4.30pm today.'

Thanks for the support. That's not the link to their giving page though!!

This is currently still on although a postponement would not surprise me. If anyone would like to donate, please do so. I imagine a few people will be suffering from mental health issues for a variety of reasons in the next few months and your support could really help them.
