Everton boss Roberto Martinez reckons the Remi Garde era marks a new start to the season for Aston Villa.

Garde takes Villa to Goodison Park tomorrow aiming to build on an encouraging 0-0 draw against Manchester City during his first match in charge.

Martinez was at Villa Park for that game and he believes Garde has a strong idea of how he wants Villa to play.

“They were very, very impressive,” said Martinez, who himself has twice been a managerial target for Villa in recent years.

“I know they have had a very tough start to the season - it always happens when you get a couple of bad results and the manager loses his job - but Remi Garde has come in with a very strong idea of how he wants the team to play.

“Playing against Manchester City, it was a game where they had to be at their very best and I thought they were defensively, they were a solid team.

“And then, you are looking at certain individuals who can cause a threat.

“So this is the start for Villa this season and they had two weeks working with the manager during the international break, which is perfect preparation for them.

“So it is going to be a really tough test and one we are going to be ready for.”

“I don’t think it’s been difficult at all to prepare,” he said.

“I went to watch their game against Manchester City and Villa were very impressive.

“The new manager has come in with a very clear idea of the way he wants to see them play.

“Remi has good experience from the British game from his time as a player, and if you follow his teams in France and the success he had with Lyon, you are going to see a team based on attacking football.

“The togetherness and the fighting spirit they had against City is a really good starting point of this new chapter in his career.”

Really throws a rabbit in the hat by claiming that the arrival of a new manager signals the start of a new era.
