Personally, I don't think you can ever beat the thrill of your first proper replica strip yer dad bought you when you were a kid, and that stays with you as your favourite for ever. My first one was a 1977 kit, with the collars, cuff,s v neck, and big umbro stripes and diamonds down the arms (not like the 77 replica strip sold in the shop today, for obvious reasons) and the round badge. Witht he white shorts and blue socks, I thought I looked like the bee's knees. I wonder if the rose tinted glasses of time, and the "legendary" status are swaying people. You can only measure a player by the players he plays againt, and the impact he has in the team. Playing Devils Advocate, without Ollie, we'd have gone down under GT. And whils't Ollie has fluffed his lines 2-3 times this season, for us that's disapointment.... for virtually any other central defender in the Prem, that would be a milestone.

To be honest, and possibly controversial, I feel that the managers *constant* bleating about the squad size is probably getting the players down. I know at work if my boss spent most of his waking moments going on about the need for a replacement for me, I'd be a bit de motivated. He needs to focus on what we have, not what we lack, and spend more time instilling a bit of positivity. I am getting heartilly sick of the "they're a great bunch of lads but we need more". I guess even Manu and Arsenal would like more players, but Arsenal in particular seem to have a relatively settled squad. Surely with a small squad there are advantages to be had such as familiarity with each other, and easier to get coaching messages across.

Ultimately it appears Cole wanted to come, Beattie didn't. For that alone Cole gets it. Besides, it's my surname and I can at last have a Villa shirt printed up with my name of it....
