So God is entitled to lie, give contradictory statements, and make up rules that are impossible to follow because you have to both obey and avoid them (know what I mean). Okay.

A bit of a problem those inconsistencies, one of the reasons for my deconversion was ultimately how it was impossible to reconcile some of the contradictions within the Bible itself. You'd think a divinely inspired book would at least be consistent in its message but no it can't even get important things like the details of Jesus' life consistent throughout the Gospels. Odd. If I were a Christian that wouldn't bother me. Then again I wouldn't be one of those "literalists". Lol No as in for example if the holy book said that Santa Claus was born on the 24th Dec on one page, and then the 25th on another. Impossible to reconcile. Jesus said in the Bible that he came to judge, yet he did not. So which one is it Jeebus? It's only a problem if you view the Bible as being one work by one author as opposed to a collection of works by different authors at various points in time interpreting the experience of something (we do not necessarily know what) through their own subjectivities/prejudices/etc. Precisely. And it's possible to be a Christian and to not view the Bible as one work by one author etc. So why the :?: It is?

  7. A tit?! Brits :winkold: It was just an accident, people don't generally die or freeze into paralysis from slipped discs.

Also, I highly recommend this book that I read some time ago, very interesting and I found myself agreeing with most, if not all, of the points in the book. Immigrants: Your Country Needs Them Yep I'm a very staunch advocate of relaxed immigration laws and increased rights for immigrants.

Good luck. Some very good bits in there, which have made a massive contribution to the canon of English (actually, western generally) literature. And long passages that are very heavy going unless you're a serious student of the era and the culture. Which version are you reading? King James? Not sure yet but I've decided I'm going to read it like a history student, I'm actually a pretty enthusiastic student of history. My father is crazy we have multiple copies of the bible at home, including NIV, KJV as well as Chinese translations. Edit: Of course I know a lot of it is boring and heavy-going and I know the historical context I've been reading the book for years as a Christian, though I never completed it. I think as a non-Christian now though I will be able to spot many more contradictions, nuances etc in the bible than I ever did. Which ironically will probably make the book much more enjoyable than I ever found it to be reading it from a devotional POV.

"I just found it in a dusty old book in the library it's called the Bible." Going to read it for the first time since my deconversion soon. The entire thing from front to cover.
  11. Never liked the Facebook "games" at all, except for Akinator which got repetitive after a while.
  12. There's actually an upcoming election (exact date not out yet but prob next year) here in Singapore and we all know how that's gonna turn out exactly.
  13. Lovely, American mentality. (not saying you're one) This perception that people are usually inherently lazy needs to stop.
  14. Collins is younger than Cuellar so surely him?
  15. BUMP =D I refuse to let this excellent thread slip into oblivion
  16. Ramly burger mmmm. Not as artery-clogging as some of the giant monsters you Westerners eat but still... FRESH minced beef patty with Worcestshire (however you spell it) sauce and placed in a fried egg. Culinary heaven.
  17. Read through some of the pages on this thread, my word you white men have huge appetites. I'm only 5ft6 and about 60kg though so I don't need, and I will not, eat nearly as much food as yall. Anyway this thread seems fun and since I've just realised that "crap" here means "unhealthy" rather than "stuff that everyone else thinks is shit" (hence Pizza Hut) I'm going to take my daily rant by posting all my regular oily, sugary indulgences. Tortilla and potato crisps (American only please, the cheap local ones suck) Fish and chips, definitely Pizza pizza pizza (particularly the pepperoni variety) Ice cream, especially chocolate (there's an AWESOME icecream parlour near my place) KFC (after which I will probably fall sick and regret eating it) Sausages Mooncakes (get to eat these just once a year, sadly) Burgers (except McDonald's) etc etc
  18. Nothing much to say other than I could not agree more. Not British but it is an issue here in Singapore as well (albeit not as big)
  19. Someone tell me how to edit maps like these? The American one is grossly inaccurate imo.
  20. Anyone loves McDonald's by the way because eating there is literally almost like eating (processed) haggis every day. Edit:  I just realised that the kway chap (crappy Chinese pig innards salad) my mom used to force me to eat probably contained blood sausages of some sorts.
  21. Nah they're both dark-coloured. Anyway I've never tried haggis or black pudding, but I do know what they're made of and I'm not about to try, thankyouverymuch Edit: Just realized black "pudding is a kind of sausage  damn butchers
