  1. i agree with this 100%. I disagree with this 100%. Under the circumstances. If Houllier gets financial backing and the rest of the season injury free and if we then finish 12th or lower I will start moaning. Who is moaning? We are being told we all need to back the manager and I'm stating that I'm not backing him because I have no faith in him and I don't believe he is the right man for the job or the club. Personally and it is a personal view I've seen enough already and I don't need to see what happens in January or through the rest of the season to decide I don't like him and I don't want him at the club. So I'm saying so now, if I end up being proven wrong fine I will hold me hands up and be glad to be wrong but the possibility of being wrong isn't going to stop me expressing my thoughts at this moment in time. Everything I've seen from Houllier from the moment it became clear he was on his way to us has made me either dislike him or think him ill suited to the club and not right for the job. There has been literally nothing, I mean nothing to put down in the positive column to counter act this. As such I'm not behind him, I'm not backing him and I don't want him to get January or the rest of the season. I want him gone. That isn't moaning, its expressing my opinion and if people don't agree with it or don't like it that is fine that is there opinion and they are entitled to it as much as anyone else. Who is moaning? I am, if Houllier gets financial backing and the rest of the season injury free and if we then finish 12th or lower. And I must say, as I celebrate my 453th(rd) VT-post, in general it seems to be much easier to dislike than like. Or people are more willing to express their frustration than satisfaction. Nevertheless I respect your opinion, I may disagree with it but hey I'm just a very remote supporter (or fan) so my knowledge and understanding is "weak". I just watch games on TV and read VT.
  2. "lack of morale, poor discipline" - France had world class superstars and primadonnas. It would have been tough task even for Mourinho and Sir Alex. And the players had biggest problems with the national team coach not Houllier. France didn't have as many injuries as we have had. France didn't lose a player like Milner in the summer. "Coincidence?" - I don't think so. EDIT: I wonder what I meant there ... I've yet to see a convincing arguement as to why we DON'T need to get behind the Manager. Yes, we have lost games and the league table doesn't lie but but ...

  4. From 2-2 against ManUtd to 0-4 against ManCity. From incredible to lacklustre. Seemed like the players and the manager had the same attitude than most of VTers: We had lost the game already before the kick-off. That is not the right way to play football. Not worth watching. I am disappointed.
  5. Because we're gonna lose again! After this comment I might say that we have nothing to lose.
  6. Friedel, Lichaj, L Young, Warnock, Dunne, Collins, Cuellar, Clark, Hogg, Delph, Reo-Coker, Petrov, Bannan, Albrighton, Downing, A Young, Heskey, Delfouneso, Agbonlahor. Any XI from these. 1-0 win maybe 2-0. All 3 points. Robbery. Barry & Milner excellent work rate but no threat. Tevez is short.
  7. 4-4-2 and Bannan and Hogg in midfield - against Manchester United? I'm shocked. Friedel 10 L Young 10 Collins 10 Dunne 10 Warnock 10 Albrighton 10 Bannan 10 Hogg 10 Downing 10 A Young 10 Agbonlahor 10 Houllier & coaching staff 10
  8. Carew vs. Hangeland 1-0 A Young vs. Gera 1-0 Houllier vs. Hughes 1-0 = 3-0 pre match optimist.
  9. Just to point out a tiny fact amongst all this wild ranting Briny_ear, I'm aware of that yes. But about that "wild ranting", those are just some of the opinions posted here on VT. And they are not all mine. I think Petrov is OK, Dunne is OK, this season Heskey is OK, Downing is OK, NRC is OK, Friedel is OK and Carew is 1/5 OK. What I'm trying to say is that according to a lot of posters more than half of our players are far from perfect and still if we are not in top 6 or 10 in the league table then half of the posters vote "no". But I guess we just like to moan.
  10. We have - tired sideways passing Petrov (and now injured) - calamity Dunne - get rid of Heskey - 1 on 5 off Carew - non-balls Downing - invisible Sidwell - unable to pass and shoot NRC - this is his last season Friedel - non performing Ireland - Agbonlahor and Delph injured while we are trying to change our style of play ... I wonder, what do we expect? Harry Potter? I can't say I'm impressed but I'm not disappointed either. My vote = yes.
  11. Disappointing but Birm... sha played well, they have a good team. A difficult opponent. I think we were lucky Hleb played from the start. Had it been Jerome they probably would have scored. MOTM Heskey. A real fighter this season. Petrov out, Sidwell and rookie midfielder Clark in. I'm not that disappointed after all. EDIT: I mean with this midfield 0-0 is not disappointing. To have no replacement for Petrov is really frustrating. Although Clark played well... but he is not a midfielder.
  12. Tuesday's mood. First these (6): Friedel, Warnock, Reo-Coker, Petrov, Young, Downing. The rest are replaceable: L Young/Beye, Collins/Dunne/Clark/Cuellar, Albrighton/Ireland, Heskey/Agbonlahor/Carew But according to my liking: L Young/Beye, Collins/Dunne/Clark/Cuellar, Albrighton, Heskey/Agbonlahor ... no, too early, I'll be back on Friday.
  13. I agree with this (observation). But it's awkward. The player in the hole should be the clever one with an eye for goal (Bergkamp). I don't think that's Ireland's best position.
  14. Friedel - 7 Not much to do. Safe hands. Beye - 7 With "a little" help from Downing. Would be better against lesser teams. Chelsea have the best left side in Premier League. When you play against Malouda and Ashley Cole you won't be playing like Roberto Carlos. Warnock - 7.5 Good job, defending and going forward. Collins - 7 As usual. Dunne - Not much to say. Good thing we have Cuellar and Clark. Reo-Coker - 7.5 Nigel, why didn't you score? Sooo close! Energy for two CMs. Petrov - 6 Probably his worst game ever in my eyes. And still did his job. Downing - 8 Clever players can defend. Playmaker. One or two mistakes. MOTM. A Young - 7 Not one of his best performances but where would we be without him? Needs a partner. Ireland - 6 Two mins of excitement, 88 mins of boredom. Needs very different game plan. He is not David Platt. Carew - 5 Running but sleeping. Clark 7 - Not quite there yet but looks like the next Hyypia. Delfouneso 6 - More games, please. Sidwell 5 - No more games, please. This seems to be the problem, against any team. Bollocks! If there was one thing NRC tried and wanted to do, it was to score the winning goal.
  15. Plan A: Hoofball ----------------------- Friedel ----------------------- Young ------- Cuellar ------- Dunne ------- Warnock --------- Coker ----- Petrov ----defensive Downing -- (Ash ---- Ash ---- Ash ---- Ash ---- Ash) ---------- ---------------Heskey -------Carew----------------
  16. Yes, I'm obsessed . But I'm doing it only because IMO he is unfairly criticized. That article is only an opinion, nothing more. I don't think SI is the answer, IMO he is not a play maker and he is 1-dimensional like Gabby. I prefer A Young. If 4-3-3 is the solution then van der Vaart is what we need (ironically). There really is no real competition for places in our CM at the moment in my opinion. And I don't think there is English talent available so I hope Houllier has the "French connection" in transfer markets. I'm thinking about Flamini but there must be others...
  17. When he came on H2 against Bolton, he was the only one of our CBs that beat Davies in the air as he would step in front of him etc.. He is a smart CB and will become a Villa legend. I like Collins because he is 100% - he will throw his body in front of everything - but he is not as intelligent a defender as Cuellar. We should have known that Spuds would be pumping high balls into Crouchy (no surprise as this was their main tactic against us last year). You need to put him under enough pressure so that he doesn't get free headers BUT make sure that the space around him is properly marked and compete for the second balls. We didn't do this, and won't, IMO, whilst Stan is the DCM as he lacks the necessary energy and will let people run off him. VdV had a field day because he had space in the box. No matter what the subject is you always remember to put in a good word for Stan. Collins didn't do his job, Dunne didn't do his job, and a top quality player VDV scored, and you blame Stan. You really are a man on a mission.
  18. Friedel 7 L Young 7.5 Collins 6.5 Dunne 7 Warnock 7 Albrighton 7 Reo-Coker 7.5 Petrov 6.5 Downing 7.5 Young A 7 Heskey 7 +1=8 Carew 5.5 And MOTM? Not really a MOTM performance but NRC.
  19. Friedel 6 L Young 7 Cuellar 8 Collins 6 Warnock 6 Albrighton 7 Reo-Coker 8 MOTM Petrov 7 Downing 7 A Young 7 Heskey 7 +1 for the goal = 8 Agbonlahor 5 Sidwell 4
  20. Houllier-Thompson sounds good to me. A little bit unreal though. And that makes it exciting.
  21. What a pointless reaction, fans are expressing their displeasure mainly because the board talk bollocks! If you think what the board say is bollocks you clearly don't read some of the posts on here Yes but a moderator once said: "talking bollocks isnt against the site guidelines (as long as you think its true)":D
  22. A "Mourinho" just isn't available. And probably not interested. I'm pretty confident that the decision makers are realistic and aiming as high as possible.
  23. Whatever the name of the new manager is I will enjoy watching Aston Villa. This is exciting!
