  1. Don't shoot the messenger as I personally don't think this is true (so I probably shouldn't post it but I love any snippet of news so I thought others might?) I have just been told by somebody with inside info (110% honest guv) that we will sign Defoe by this time next week? I massively doubt it but if we do can I have the scoop
  2. Who's being realistic, I'm just enjoying my high and dreaming of happy days!
  3. -----------------------------Boruc/Sorensen------------------------ -----------------Mellberg/Distin------Laursen/Davies------------- Richards/McShane-----------------------------------Bridge/Bouma ----------------------------------Barry/Gardner------------------------ ----------------Arteta/Petrov/Sidwell------------------------------ Milner/Young----------------------------------------Gamst/Maloney -----------------Carew/Bent-------Agbonlahor/Moore--------- Rest of Squad Berger Cahill Osbourne All the rest are surplus to requirements That team might break into the top 4 Never going to happen but hey what the hell, Randy.......Show me the money!
  4. If Laursen can stay fit, we won't be able to get anyone better. I don't see the point in trying to replace him as first choice. Whilst I agree thats a big IF!
  5. With people mentioning it's fantastic that this thread has made it over the 200 page mark, I've just noticed that it has also had 305593 hits! That is impressive! Villatalk should start selling advertising on this thread alone! Wonder if it'll make the 1000000 mark!
  6. -------------------------------------------------------Boruc/Sorenson------------------------------------------- G.Johnson/Volz-----------------Mellberg/Ridgewell------------Laursen/Distin/Cahill---------------Bridge/Bouma Milner/Young/Gardener-----Barton/Petrov/McCann------Barry/Sidwell/Osbourne/Davies------Maloney/Pederson --------------------------------------Carew/Bent----------------Gabby/Moore---------------------- Thats the type of squad I'd like next season! I know I'm dreaming but with some cash splashed I think all are achievable! Its also what we need to crash the top 6 Boruc - 5m G.Johnson - 5m Volz - 3m Distin - Free Bridge - 6m Milner - 5m Barton - 9m Sidwell - Free Pederson - 8m Bent -10m 51million well worth it!
  7. Bullard is a fanatastic player, I would love him at Villa
  8. Not being funny, if we haven't maybe it's about time we tried something new cause anything we did before clearly hasn't worked? While I want to show off our tradition and history and be VERY proud of it, all the old timers saying we should stick with claret body / blue sleeves, and we musn't use scarves because we never have, nike will keep the playground happy, I don't want Villa to become a brand etc. are keeping us in a timewarp as much as Ellis did (well ok not that much), it's time to make a new Villa, a winning Villa, a Villa everybody talks about positivly. Lets sing about our history from the rooftops but do it while were bringing ourselves into the new decade.
  9. I think scarves would be great! Why not Ballons and flags as well throw in some song sheets and let party like it's 1982!
  10. That's all fine except Micah. Forget about him. He's going up, not sideways (we've had the Man City debate before, they wouldn't come here). A side like that would be up! I agree deep down with what your saying but wouldn't it be great if Randy went all out to get Micah like we did with Ashley, another sign of intent. Money talks and he's got it. That sides got a nice balance of youth and experience with the same profile going right through the squad. All the sicknotes and dead wood out and a team with ambition running through their veins! McClaren would have to take notice of Villa with that team too meaning much more positive publicity!
  11. Sorry I posted this in the ruthless thread when it should proabably go here! I 'm bored so thought I'd stick my realistic with a bit of expensive ambition side in the melting pot: Get Rid Mark Delaney J'Lloyd Samuel Lee Hendrie Juan Pablo Angel Eric Djemba-Djemba Aaron Hughes Chris Sutton Patrik Berger Keep as squad Players Taylor Bardsley (Buy him first obviously) Cahill Ridgewell Laursen Agbonlahor Gardener Osbourne McCann Davies Maloney Petrov Moore Starters: --------------Sorenson-------------- M. Richards --- Mellberg - Curtis Davies --- Bouma ------ Sidwell ------ Reo Coker-----Barry----- Shaun WP----------------------------------Young -----------------------Carew -------------------- Squad buys: Gera Koumas Distin 45 mill would get you that team IMO Wouldn't mind if you increase ticket prices and dont buy **** all in Jan for that team! Only thing missing is a spare target man?
  12. Seconded. I like a new shirt every season. Makes Xmas easy
  13. The term "honeymoon" is derived from the Babylonians who declared mead, a honey-flavored wine, the official wedding drink, they also stated that the bride's parents were required to keep the groom supplied with the drink for the month following the wedding. How times have changed!
  14. I was just coming on to do that afrter reading the renaissance (spelling?) thread! I'm all for attracting new fans but it is a bit frustrating as a season ticket holder. The squeaky wheel gets the oil, and all that. I would like to third this. Yet another discount deal for non season ticket holders. Great for attracting new people but what about us loyal fans that came through thick and thin and stump the money upfront without knowing whether we'll be watching dross or attractive football for the season. I would love to see an analysis to see how much it would of cost to of gone to every home game for a non season ticket holder. As much as I love Villa and the new revolution, at this point I am already seriously considering paying on a match to match basis next season instead of renewing. Also with ridiculous fixture changes like the Liverpool match to lunchtime on Mothering Sunday, I would not waste my ticket money by having to pay up front!
  15. I have to say, I've resisted joining in some of the brown nosing that's gone on so far in 'The Generals' thread as I'm finding it hard to believe it's all going to be as rosy as everybody thinks and whilst it is fantastic PR for the General to sign up to these forums I still believe they are businessmen and I needed to see more to jump on the bandwagon of belief. As they say talk is cheap I want to us(Villa) progressing before I really believed that the new owners are as fantastic as they are are selling themselves. I just read this post with a tear in my eye. Well done Randy/ The General and Aston Villa you've just gained a new believer. ( Now go out and spend a fortune in January and take us to Europe! ) Paddy I don't know you but I'm very glad you had a great day, all the best and thanks for letting us know about this fantastic gesture!
  16. This is just rubbish. Your still at Uni so how do you know your youth ends when you start working? My experience is that I had a great time when I left school and started work because I had money to do so. As for earning a lot more that is bullshit as well. That's just the crap your fed to try and keep you in education. Most grads end up with averagly paid jobs and lacking in ambition or real work experience to have the balls to get out of them. You maybe able to do a 200 page thesis about the down turn in the market place, but in real life people don't want to read about it, they want to see you get out there and turn it round by grafting.(a word most students don't understand.) To be fair all the students posts sum up what Uni is. It's where dossers go that don't want to work. All the positives that have been posted about uni are the social life and ways to pick easy courses that don't start till the afternoon! Have a wash, soap dodgers. Stop listening to the levellers and go pay for your own upkeep!
  17. I'd work on your English first! Bloody youth of today!
  18. Have to say my one regret in life is that I didn't do a round the world backpacking trip when I had the chance. If you can take a year to do this I would say the life experience is worth more than any qualification you can get.
  19. Do you mind me asking how old you are? Just wondering because you sound like you've 'made it' without going to Uni, so wondering if you chose the 'non uni' route years ago or recently. Thanks for all the advise lads. I'm 37 next month. My first reaction was to say that I haven't 'made it' as such as this sound brash and aloof, which I'm not(at least I hope not?), I just have a fairly well paid job I enjoy that takes me to places I never thought I would go and class as work. When I thought about it, I guess I have 'made it' in the sense that I am happy where I currently am in life but this can mean many different things to different people.
