  1. Friedel, Delph, Gabby and Petrov out Guzan, Sidwell, Reo-Coker, Gardner in Good choices. I prefer Guzan over Friedel anyway and the other changes all make sense. If all goes well i could even see this being the team that starts at Anfield with maybe Petrov replacing Sidders.
  2. Have we got a confirmed line up for tonight? Looking at the quality of the clubs in this competition i hope we go as far as we can. Some of the teams that catch my eye; Lazio, Roma, Ajax, Hamburg, PSV, Bilbao, Benfica, Valencia, Fenerbache, Werder Bremen, Genoa, Hamburg, both Prague teams. Personally i'd love Sarajevo to get through because i'd love an away day in Sarajevo, their Bureck is the best Bureck! Lille or Hamburg would be quality away days as well, in fact anywhere in Holland, Belguim, Germany or France would be brilliant. Time to get saving!
  3. Obviously if Carew is fit i'd play him but reading the reports on his sick toe i'd presumed he'd be out for a few weeks, same with Luke Young. I'd actually gorgotten about Gardner  I might be tempted to play him ahead of Sidders, he's a fighter.
  4. Liverpool were poor against Spurs, they missed Alonso much the same as we missed Barry, however i'd imagine that we can expect a backlash on Monday. In order for our full backs not to get absolutely torn asunder by Liverpool's wingers in the same way that Reo-Coker was made to look like a fish out of water by Riera last season we'll have to play a 4-5-1. If we play 4-4-2 we will get absolutely murdered. I'd go with the following line up; Guzan (Freidel's reaction time has looked slow for some some time now) Beye Shorey Cuellar Davies Reo-coker Sidwell Petrov Ashley Young Milner Agbonlahor The problem with this is that it requires Martin to drop Delph which will hardly inspire confidence in the young lad but then he probably shouldn't have started against Wigan. It also means that Gabby will have to make some decent runs and chase the ball down which he rarely does at the moment. Reo-Coker will give us some much needed cover for the back four and hopefully Sidders can get foward to support Milner, Young and Gabby. Milner's work rate will come in useful as he'll have to spend much of the match operating like a right wing back offering support to Beye when LIverpool attack and breaking with pace if we get a chance to go foward. It's all damage limitation really. If we come away with a hard fought, close defeat i'd be content, a draw would be a remarkable result.
  5. They are, they're ahead of us by +1 goal difference after 1 game of the season. :winkold: Lets not press the panic button after 90 minutes of football.
  6. Absolutely spot on. I actually think there are a fair number of Villa fans who enjoy putting the team down, it's like some sort of masochistic, self-loathing habit that we indulge in. Some people in the Holte just can't wait to have a moan at the first sight of trouble, it even happens when we are winning games! Martin O'Neill has taken us to consecutive 6th place finishes in a league that is becoming increasingly competitive. He's the best thing to happen to this club for years and while i don't agree with his all his tactics nor think that his transfer dealings have been as numerous as they should have been i still think he's the best manager out there for Villa.
  7. Ashley Young did have a poor game but i don't think his lack of decent distribution was solely down to his lack of vision on the day. Every time he got the ball there were two or three wigan players around him and little support from his team mates. The rest of the midfield seems static when ashley has the ball and no one seems to be willing to give him an option other than to try to bundle his way through masses of opposition players. He played badly but i think our general performance highlights just how much we rely on him to pull off a bit of magic. Revert to a 5 man midfield and encourage some more movement from the players and we'll see a more dangerous Ashley Young.
  8. In my opinion he needs to revert to the 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation that brought us the results in the early to mid part of last season, our midfield looks brittle and weak with only 2 in the middle and we really lack ideas apart from playing to Ashley on the left and then leaving him with 2 or 3 opposition players around him and hoping that he miraculously manages to skip past them all. However i'm sure O'Neill knows what the problems are and i trust him to sort them out.
  9. why can't i find GOLTV on tvu player? How many goals do we need to win the match by to qualify for the next round?
  10. To the tune of Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler Turn around Emiiiiiiiiiiile Every now and then you score a goal and you need to score tonight because you've only scored twice ever and you'll probably never score a goal again but we'll be singing your name, for ever!
  11. Immigration should be based on what is best for our country.....it should be based on what they can offer our economy, skilled workers from anywhere should be welcomed, and piss taking benefit beggers turned away. Here's the problem. What's good for our economy isn't necessarily good for us. You can have property owners making millions but thousands homeless, you can have energy companies making millions but hundreds of thousands out of work, you can have manufacturing company shareholdres making billions because they're using low paid labour. The economy doesn't always benefit us because we live in a system whereby the wealth our labour creates is taken by others who give us back a tiny amount of what we make in the form of a wage. People come here from Poland, Somalia and Estonia because we have a relatively high standard of living and better wages than the countries they come from. They're basically looking for the same thing as us, what's important is that we stand together as a class of people as opposed to saying that people whould only be allowed in if an employer can make use of them. There's also the fact that many people migrate to flee war and famine, are we supposed to give them numeracy and literacy tests before they enter and then send them back if their motor skills aren't up to working in a box factory?
  12. I felt a mix of nausea, anger and dispondency when i saw that Brons chap get elected to the EU parliament, then i woke up to hear that that poor excuse for a human being Griffin had been elected too. It's sad because there obviously aren't that many racists and fascists in the country to warrant them getting 900,000 odd votes. Obviously a lot of people have voted for them as a "protest vote" or simply without knowing who they are, who their leader is and what they represent and now they access to EU funds and two fascists in the EU parliament and have become by far Britain's biggest fascist party ever. I think their rise is largely down to the disappearance of working class politics over the last 20 years, since thatcher crushed the unions and Blair continued the tories anti-working class politics there seems to have been a shift towards identity politics which is linked to the ideology of multi-culturalism. Despite posing as ardent opponents of this ideology the BNP have actually embraced it, they've claimed to be representatives of "white" britain, as if the colour of someones skin or the country on their passport defines their interests as a person or their social class. Without a move back towards class politics, an closing of the inequality gap between rich and poor, an improvement in the NHS and social housing and greater cooperation between british and migrant workers i can only see the fascists getting stronger. To think that Griffin has done something that Moseley couldn't do and that the British public today is more gulible today than they were in the 1930's is a sad indictment of our society.
  13. The Specials, Academy, tomorrow, can't **** wait!
  14. I do a spot of jogging, probably twice a week, about 4 miles each time. I only do it to keep in shape for boxing and football, it's suits a purpose but i don't particularly enjoy it. It's the Sutton Fun Run soon, anyone doing that?
  15. "doffs cap in meak appreciation", thankyou squire. Anyway back to the song, i think it flows nicely and would sound good in the stands, no one else agree?
  16. sorry rjw63, i'm new round here and hadn't noticed there was a chants thread, please accept my humblest apologies!
  17. I agree, i only ever here the "who's that flying down the left and the right?" song on trains after away games, it's rarely sung properly in the holte. I say get Too Much Too Young blaring out!
  18. Sorry mate i didn't realise someone had already come up with the same idea. I like the other song, but the other one is to a far, far superior tune.
  19. Me and a mate thought that Ashley Young needed a better song to befit his standing, so we came up with an idea. To the tune of Too Much Too Young-The Specials You play so good Ashley Young You're running/bombing down the wing scoring goals for fun so score one so score one So score one for me ash-ley-ey de-de-de-de-duh for those too young to know the tune http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=nxHcx7FO8nI what do people think?
