  1. In all fairness, this James Nursey is the one really pushing the Lambert story, so he'd say this to make his story sound stronger and sell more papers...
  2. Either way, the last game of the season will be awkward for one set of fans, at least.
  3. ... as I said... didn't read it. Too much hard work.
  4. One look at this and the grammar nazi inside me gave up. Try splitting the paragraphs more too.
  5. In a false position eh? That one again. I thought people on here had been finally awakened to the facts that we are simply where we are due to having a very poor squad, managed by a very poor manager. As far as Paul Lambert goes, given the choice between him and McLeish, yes i'd choose Lambert. However if McLeish is sacked at the end of the season and we are still in the Premiership then i would question whether Lambert was a big enough name to attract the quality needed for our squad and that would be a very big worry for me. Secondly, i'm not so sure that he is the right manager to get us playing football again in the same way Rodgers, or Martinez would? So under the right circumstances i don't think Lambert would be the right appointment for our club. I agree with you that if it's McLeish/Lambert - Lambert wins. However I think there is a problem with your argument. You say that Lambert isn't big enough to attract the quality needed - whereas you mention both Martinez and Rodgers, who don't attract the "quality". Take Rodgers for instance - there's not really a "big name" in Swansea's team. Yet, I'd take their squad and their style of football over ours at the moment. So whilst Lambert may not be be 'big enough' - it doesn't particularly matter if we're looking for a (let's face it) cheaper team, that would be able to string some passes together, and hopefully muster more than one shot a game. Quality doesn't necessarily mean a big name/media status/£Ms.
  6. What about in the Middle East where protests ousted governments? Whilst I disagree with violent protests, there's something that can be said for peaceful ones. But then again look at Blackburn earlier in the season. True - Blackburn fans are still not happy, and they won't be if they get relegated. I suppose they are in a similar boat to us - their chairman doesn't seem to know what to do.

  8. I mean that point pretty much means nothing, just so you know. As I said, you sign it - so you're putting your name towards it. So instead of saying "Aston Villa fans think this..." they are saying "We as Aston Villa fans (listed here) say this"... there's a difference. Additionally, life must suck for you as a villa fan - as someone who has the username houllierout.. and now is championing/is lernerslostit. When were you last happy?
  9. I think personally that this winning streak for Chelsea is not really down to Di Matteo. I see it as Chelsea playing the football they wanted to, with the manager letting them. Rather than, them changing their style of football for AVB. I think it's an illusion - if AVB let Chelsea play the want they wanted - I think he'd still be in his job. It's been said for some time that the senior players at Chelsea run the squad.
  10. Precisely. Agreed - obviously any statement would need to have signatures or the like. If you wish to go ahead with this sort of thing - maybe look for a website where you can propose a letter and people can sign to agree it and once it receives X amount of signatures you put it forward?
  11. The vast, vast majority of Villa fans want McLeish out with immediate effect, realising his position at this club is untenable. I'd argue it has been that way since he first signed the contract on the dotted line, but that's another point. If you read the OP again, you will see this was an idea in which supporters from a range of internet messageboards and fans' pages could get involved and be behind. These sources represent tens of thousands of Villa fans. Considering 13,000+ people joined a campaign before he was even appointed, trying to stop the inevitable happening, I find it highly amusing that you think any potential statement on behalf of the fans would be coming from a "minority" and a few "internet warriors". Please do wake up. I'm glad you find it amusing. Nearly as amusing as stating that the message boards represent "tens of thousands of fans". Take your own medicine and "wake up". You still haven't answered my point though, have you? Quite clearly any statement, if done correctly, would be coming from a majority of Villa fans. How you can say any different with a straight face is just completely beyond me. I'm not sure to what extent technology has hit your household yet, but there are most definitely tens of thousands of Villa fans 'online' nowadays. The vast majority of these do not want Alex McLeish. I did not just state 'messageboards' now, did I? Show me evidence to the contrary and I will gladly retract any previous comment I've made. The official Aston Villa Facebook page has 509,843 people following it, just using one example. Yet you think a fans' statement about McLeish would be coming from a few internet warriors? Christ, maybe you should take some of my medicine? I think you are missing my point entirely. Whilst yes, the majority would agree with what the statement would potentially say. The fact it could come from group of say 200 people, is the worrying thing. Oh dear, I think someone got confused with having the Internet and being a member of a forum. It's okay dear - I'll pay for a course for you. Yes, well done, there are many Villa fans "online" - how many of these are part of a forum? Actually, how many people are actually active on a forum? As a side note - yes you did mention message boards - diddums, try again. Oh dear indeed. Nevermind medicine, I think you need to learn to read. You've already demonstrated you didn't read the OP correctly, and now me. Yes, I did mention messageboards, where did I say I didn't? What I, quite clearly, said is that its not the only online source where we have thousands and tens of thousands of fans. What don't you understand about that? Please feel free to read my previous posts again. You stated messageboards and fan pages - you are again talking about a lot of faceless fans. Maybe you should go to Villa Park and ask fans there if they are active members of Villa forums or Villa 'fan pages' and by active I don't mean they press like on a facebook page and don't communicate with it. This isn't getting us anywhere however, and I'm sure on other matters we would agree. However I do stand by my original statement.
  12. You're a brave man for stating that you agreed with the appointment. But I agree with your other points. My only hope is that the reaction from the crowd would change McLeish's 'tactics'. Doubtful mind.

  15. RE: Martinez After this summer, does he have one year left? Or is it up this summer?
  16. Okay... but imagine the situation where 20 Blues fans register on this site, and one starts a thread stating the "McLeish is God", and those 20 people decide to write a letter on behalf of the forum/fans expressing that they are pleased with the progress the team is making, and happy with all the cuts that are occurring, to ensure Villa's future. Do you see the problem?? Why don't my dog and I write a letter to state that Gabby hasn't scored in many games, and state that he should be dropped instantly because of his poor performance. Again the facts are there to support it, and it is not abusive. The club is fully aware of the feelings of the fans, and whether they work on that is a different matter - but that's down to them. They issued a statement saying that he is pretty much safe for the next 3 games. What would be the use of sending the letter? Because on receiving a letter from an Internet forum, they will change their mind?
  17. Of course. Why not comment on every post on this forum, saying "in your opinion"? Sigh.
  18. The day when the fans sat by and watched our club fall apart and die into relegation without a fight is a far sadder day in my opinion I don't see fans sitting by and watching the club falling apart. So thankfully you won't experience that day this season at VP. But issuing a 'statement' from a forum of Villa fans (some may even say Internet Warriors) on behalf of every Villa fan... is ridiculous.
  19. Haha, well without too much political talk. I think a main reason they got in, was this idea (some may say a realisation) that cuts needed to be made. I think this is a similar sort of situation, or at least a similar motivation.
  20. The day when a minority (with no power) put together a statement to be read on behalf of a majority is a sad day.
  21. I had an eerie feeling when we employed him - it felt like when the Tories came in with the recession. It seemed as though we needed to make cuts after the MON period. That's why they got McLeish knowing we'd hate him, a temporary measure to get the costs down. However... I'd only expect this to be a year thing. I know they said he was on a three year contract, but is there a chance he only got a one year contract? (WISHFUL THINKING)
  22. I just did my point predictor (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/predictor/default.stm) and we survived. I think Bolton could catch us, and Wigan (the way they're playing they could beat Barca... erm... Madrid.. erm... Chelsea? ) The Wigan/Blackburn game is huge for us, as well as them. A draw would be brilliant. I'd be looking at QPR, Blackburn and Wolves to go down.
  23. I don't know of any Englishman that actually has the funds to run a successful and rich PL team. Who'd have thought having the Prime Minister and (potential) Future King of England as fans, wouldn't be beneficial?
