This is one of the main reasons why I’m not as keen on signing older players. They do a job for now, and it all looks good, but after a season or two, you’ll be getting diminishing returns. Just like the names above.
the trick is getting players on the up, so we get more out of them, and for whatever reason we have to sell them, we can get some profit out of it too.
like the Watkins vs Wilson debate. In terms to investment to the club and squad we are more likely getting a better return from ollie, he has better chances to be in the team longer and improving each season with us, which makes the club better and if the club chooses/needs to sell him, it will get a nicer return from him. However, Wilson is at his peak, and each season he is closer to regressing due to his age. So if that does happen, it only brings down his value, to his potential sell on fee and to the squad.
