  1. Where he would have made a difference is in his movement and pressing. He also would have made Diaby’s game better too and there’d be less pressure on him.

  2. lol at the reactions. When we win and have been winning our intensity etc isn’t in question then. It’s not in the DNA of the team. We’re a WIP and it’s going to take Don Unai at least another 2/3 windows to shape the squad the way he wants.

The players were tired mentally. Don Unai should have rested some of them for Ajax in hindsight.

McGinn made zero attempt to play the ball and was very aggressive. If thats not dangerous play then what is?

Behave it was a foul and that’s it. No studs showing wasn’t off the ground it was cynical but not dangerous.

I have this theory about this - that so often takes a period of not playing, not even being involved (excluding being dropped because that affects confidence) for new players to settle.  It's why you so often see the second season being the breakout one for many.  The off-season affords the player a chance to relax and settle off the field.  Take Dougie for example - he was a different player after the mid-season suspension for covid.  Had a period of time away from playing, away from the daily grind to reflect, get affairs in order and actually take stock.

Exactly! I bumped into Jordan Ayew and Jordan Veretout mentioned once and they both mentioned the shock at the speed and intensity of the Premier League and that was some 7 seasons ago.

The Premier league has gone up a whole different level now. The foreign players will take different amounts of time to adjust and thankfully our coaches will give them that time.

But he doesn’t though tbh. Thats the odd thing. I don’t see him use his physical attributes enough if you ask me.

Problem is when he does he invariably gets pulled up by the referees.

  6. Defending set pieces and crosses is easier when you have a settled defence. Because of injuries we’ve played every CB we have.

We take more of the chances we create then there’s no discussion but we’ve been very lax in our finishing recently (except Ollie).

Ollie is on that list every season he’s been here.

edit - what did he get in 21-22?

  8. I thought he was very good. Got tired as the intensity of the Premier League is something else now.

Tactics and positioning will come in the next 18 months or so. That depends on how quickly he can absorb Don Unai.

The finish for the second was God damn beautiful

Everything about that goal was beautiful.

The one type of goal that I want to see him score more of but I think it’s a playing style of Villa that limits it is the whipped ball across and he either heads or nicks it in. He’ll be hitting 20 league goals a season every season then.

Consistently getting to 14/15 goals a season for us and he’s gone up a level now.

    £85million ? £185million mate!

Harder second half but stuck with it and got the 3 points which is massive with Spurs coming to VP next week.

Ref was terrible, also when is Watkins going to start getting fouls giving him for getting pushed, pulled and manhandled every week?.

Need to tighten up at the back, going forward we look a danger again.

Huge game next week hopefully VP is rocking and we get another 3 points.

It’s like when benteke hardly used to get anything for being stronger despite being repeatedly fouled.
