If Dougie leaves the Wolves player Gomes (?) would be the ideal replacement.

The lack of perspective after each defeat or draw by some is incredible. The fact is we got relegated just as every club got rich.
Some of the players that are playing in the premier league now are incredible. Any of the premier league clubs can beat off competition from the best in Europe for players.
Even with our strongest 11 at the peak of their fitness fresh well rested we’d struggle against these lot at their ground. Even when they were shite we used to lose to them. We played well in the first half. Struggled in the second.
Don Unai has been here 18 months. He has a lot of Slippy G’s BS to undo. We’ve gone from relegation candidates to Top 4 contenders (Briefly title) in a little over 18 months.
As I’ve said previously if Don Unai is here for a minimum of 5/6 seasons then we will win the League or get very close.
We’re 9 points off top with 7 games to go. It’s usually 25+ by now if not more.
Amazing.

All those who jumped on my posts in the prematch thread, shame on you.
It was a shit show from start to finish. The lineup, the subs (Chambers, FFS). Injuries don’t help but to me Emery was experimenting tonight. He threw that game as far as I’m concerned. Even at 2-1 when we were getting battered he could have got Bailey and Tielemans in there, he waited until 3-1 and the game was done.
Look, I’ll get criticism for reproaching Emery, of course I will. But he has made some very big mistakes as Villa manager and tonight he got it badly wrong again. Of course he’s done some incredible things but fast forward just four months on from when we beat city in December and we look a much worse team. This calendar year we don’t look as good as we did at the end of 2023, in essence we look like we’ve regressed. Injuries haven’t helped but what on earth was he thinking putting that team out there tonight, I’ve no idea.
All will be fine if we win the games we should, like Brentford on Saturday. Win that and everything is ok again, even if we play crap like we seem to most games this calendar year. But things aren’t as good as they were and we look a million miles from the top teams again, as tonight showed.
Equally we need players back. Martinez and Watkins at the minimum better be back on Saturday, along with McGinn. We need our players to stand up, be fit, and help us along the line now. Not get injured or ‘ill’ when we need them the most.
Steven Gerrard.

Lingard was a 'young player' for about 12 years
Hopefully Lee Hendrie will finally fulfil that potential…..
Duran is going to be a top striker.

Played well and is improving and maturing nicely.

Physically (stamina) not premier league yet but he has strength and skill in abundance. Good player. Full pre season behind him and he’ll be a key player for us next season.

I dunno, Robbie Fowler must be nearly 60 at this stage.
I’d still back him .

I'm also assuming that because Konsa's cross went in it had a low xG value? Whereas if Duran just headed it into an open net it would have been high?
Yes true. I forgot about Konsa Alberto’s goal.

Did we not beat Wolves in xG? Cos we were clearly the better team that day.
Pretty much sums up why I couldn't give a toss about xG if that's the case.
I think that Ait Nouri chance was very high. However he’s a left back. For me Robbie fowler getting that chance should have a higher XG than a left back who’s scored once in his whole career.

115 charges. Once we get more quality and more experience for our current players then we’ll sort these scum bags out at their patch.

The referee will be key. It was one of the best refereeing performances I’ve seen in the first game .
I think either Zaniolo or Rogers should man mark Rodri. I think they have the physical strength to give him a game.

He looks a lot fitter now. Considering the minutes he has played this season it’s almost like a new signing. Diaby and Duran too in some respects. They will probably be peaking fitness wise whilst those that have played practically every minute will start to feel a bit leggy.
McGinn and Ramsey hopefully end the season strongly too.
Very good points

Zaniolo has been getting better...
I'd actually like Villa to sign him should we qualify for CL.
He's versatile and Emery said he can play anywhere across the front three.
We definitely will need a bigger squad.

Those 6 points against Manure would have made everything a little easier.
we need to take each game as it comes and take the opportunities that present themselves within them.
If we play well against City then we have to take chances as and when they come.

Kepheren Thuram is the one.

I think we will get something from Arsenal and Man City games, maybe just one point, but I don't think we will lose both
I believe we will win one of the 3 hardest games we have left. I don’t know if it’s Arsenal City or Liverpool but we will beat one of them.

I’d go 4-5-1 with Rogers and Zaniolo starting with one of them on Rodri.
if only one of them starts then put Diaby on the left as Walker might not be playing and Either Of the two big guys in the 10 role with the brief of roughing Rodri up.

Decision making. It was much better today. Hopefully he can produce like that until the end of the season.

Best performance he has given so far. He held the ball up really well , pressed them into mistakes and covered when needed. Much much better.

I'm worried about the Brentford game now if they play like that.
Also Mbuemo back from injury so will be a tough game.
Manure have so many gaps from defence to midfield it’s unreal. Brentford will be a tough team to play but we’re better than Manure. We will dominate the ball. We need to watch their counter attacks though.
