The magic number turns to 5 wins now.

Can’t shake the feeling that it might go all the way down to Palace away on the last day.

The more games Pau plays the higher the probability that we win those imo.

I watched the game. They are third bottom for a reason. It would have been criminal to have thrown that away after the first half showing. We let them back into it.

I was referring to how they play specifically. They’ve given all the top teams a tough game.

so why are we conceding such sloppy goals, when we are in the ascendency?....While I accept that, it doesn't seem to correlate with my main point.......conceding avoidable goals....or as some say, sloppy goals.

I guess against City and Arsenal, we demonstrated admirably, that we can defend and can contain.....so could it be consistency? or simply, certain types of attack, spook us.....I would suggest aerial balls, do seem to be a trend, towards our achilles.

We have conceded such goals because our first choice defenders have hardly played together. We have also had to chop and change. On top of that the chances you allude to against Forest happened when Pau went off.

It’s no accident our offside trap is immaculate when he’s on the pitch. Last season we had a settled defence and we didn’t concede ‘sloppy’ goals except the Leicester game at home.

Pau is going to get better. But I hope someone clatters Yoann Wissa - the challenge which injured Pau was dirty and malicious. Imo.

Yes, he played Gibbs-White on but Emi was slow off his line for the second goal.

There’s still a place in the squad for him but hopefully we can transition towards him being a good rotation, not a guaranteed starter week in week out.

Actually I wouldn’t put that goal 100% on Cash because Chambers stepped up way too late whereas Cash didn’t step up at all. Moreno and lenglet were already up. If Chambers stays in his position and the goal doesn’t occur.

However as Cash didn’t step up at all then he probably should have been round to cover.

Beautiful to watch, looked quite quick I thought at times when defending...although maybe their players aren't that quick?

Pau Torres reminds me of an NFL Quarterback, someone like Joe Montana.

Torres dictates the play, you can see the opposition (Fulham) almost in awe of him, they don't know what to do and they aren't closing him down so fast as the game went on.

His timing is impeccable. Every pass seems to be played at the right time.

If we can find the right footed version of him we’ll win even more games.

I really can’t see it,  I thought he didn’t do much at all yesterday, looked like he was running through custard, and had zero confidence he would score that chance looked gassed.  The pass for Watkins was no more than I would expect from any half decent midfielder the way it opened up - the movement was class (and their defence parted way to easily) - was screaming for him to be taken off at at 45 let alone 60, 70, 80 the amount of cheap balls he gave away was shocking (JJ should have gone off as well).

82% possession accuracy from 35 attempted passes. Very good for the ‘number 10’.

We should be doing that in any case. We don’t need our poor past performances to help us decide what to do. Those of us who have been supporting Villa as long as I have (approx 70 years) know this already.

‘‘Twas a light hearted follow on to your response to the original post

  8. The second goal was elite level. The best players never have to touch the ball but they are in control of it. Iniesta n Xavi used to do this a lot let it run and then at the right time pass.

  9. Quite simply world class. £30m? Absolute effing robbery.

He's a real leader and he controls the defence and midfield so well. If we can find the right footed version but with a bit of pace we’re in the money.

Even if Chambers starts next to him I wouldn’t be worried .
