Lost count of the amount of our games I've watched this season and thought 'If only Buendia was playing'.

We don't have another player like him.

Yesterday, especially 1st half, he'd have picked that back line apart. Everything was totally static, nobody darting into space etc... He offers that and can then produce a pass out of nowhere.

I can't wait to see him back. Hopefully he gets a good pre-season under his belt with no adverse reactions to the injury and you just know that he will give even more now, after missing this season.

He in addition initiates the press. In the Liverpool game he would have harassed Trent when he dropped off and started pinging balls over our back line.

The same in other games too.

That first tweet is exactly it.

People need to get a lot of perspective. I mentioned it before the First Man City game that this is a different kind of pressure for the majority of the squad.

If we make CL the experience will enhance most of our squad.

I agree with a lot of what you and Emery are saying here. The problem is we probably aren't going to get another chance like this anytime soon, so we will be trying to compete next year with the same level of players because FFP says we can't add enough quality, in fact, we might have to sell.

This is where one or two freebies even if they’re older will be great for us. I would love someone like Dani Parejo to come in and help out the Cm/Cdm position he wouldn’t be expensive but he will provide us with a lot of control in the middle.

I’m sure there are others available for various positions.

Yeah there's definitely a mental fragility about us when we go two goals up. For some reason it doesn't seem to happen when we're one goal up?

Concentration and possibly a lack of a Mings type who keeps everyone on their toes.

yeah, 1 PPG would prob be enough tbh, lucky for us.

But the drop in form is concerning.

I’d say it’s more about the squad depth more than anything. Losing key players at key moments is the main reason for this.

The way we just switch off in games is worrying, pathetic, disgraceful, sad, moronic, baffling, unacceptable and infuriating.

It’s alway between 46-65 - maybe Don Unai tells them to relax and the players take this as a cue to go to sleep.

What is it about us and shit teams that can only foul and park the bus

coasting that and 4 months ago we’d have seen that out with a comfortable 2-0 , players seems to be too casual or lethargic… credit for getting back to 3-3 but that’s 2 points dropped , means I’m gonna have to cheer Liverpool tomorrow v United and I’m still not clean after cheering on Chelsea the other night

I hate Liverpool and Chelsea with a passion. But I’m loving the scousers tomorrow. Yuck

All those who jumped on my posts in the prematch thread, shame on you.

It was a shit show from start to finish. The lineup, the subs (Chambers, FFS). Injuries don’t help but to me Emery was experimenting tonight. He threw that game as far as I’m concerned. Even at 2-1 when we were getting battered he could have got Bailey and Tielemans in there, he waited until 3-1 and the game was done.

Look, I’ll get criticism for reproaching Emery, of course I will. But he has made some very big mistakes as Villa manager and tonight he got it badly wrong again. Of course he’s done some incredible things but fast forward just four months on from when we beat city in December and we look a much worse team. This calendar year we don’t look as good as we did at the end of 2023, in essence we look like we’ve regressed. Injuries haven’t helped but what on earth was he thinking putting that team out there tonight, I’ve no idea.

All will be fine if we win the games we should, like Brentford on Saturday. Win that and everything is ok again, even if we play crap like we seem to most games this calendar year. But things aren’t as good as they were and we look a million miles from the top teams again, as tonight showed.

Equally we need players back. Martinez and Watkins at the minimum better be back on Saturday, along with McGinn. We need our players to stand up, be fit, and help us along the line now. Not get injured or ‘ill’ when we need them the most.

    Steven Gerrard.

Lingard was a 'young player' for about 12 years

Hopefully Lee Hendrie will finally fulfil that potential…..

Duran is going to be a top striker.

  10. Physically (stamina) not premier league yet but he has strength and skill in abundance. Good player. Full pre season behind him and he’ll be a key player for us next season.

Did we not beat Wolves in xG? Cos we were clearly the better team that day.

Pretty much sums up why I couldn't give a toss about xG if that's the case.

I think that Ait Nouri chance was very high. However he’s a left back. For me Robbie fowler getting that chance should have a higher XG than a left back who’s scored once in his whole career.
