  1. We don't have one striker, jesus christ
  2. Emery on Duran: "...I want to help him firstly with his adaptation; hopefully that will happen quickly. I know that he's coming as a 19-year-old and he will need time to know his team-mates, our ideas, and playing against important players in every session here and against opposition teams. We are going to help him. The responsibility now, as a number nine and a striker, is for (Ollie) Watkins. We want to add him (Duran) to help us." So Watkins main man, ease Duran in. That is plan A. If Watkins gets injured, then Duran 'helps' by playing as plan B. All this fuss over nothing, really don't get it.
  3. You keep saying this, but it isn't true. Duran. Wilson. B Young.
  4. Read up there mate, he doesn't have any backup plans for players being injured so we're screwed.
  5. I think Emery probably has a backup plan. Just an assumption based on his track record.
  6. Our new 16mil signing. Ollie also might not get injured, and in fact very rarely does. I feel like a stuck record too - or at least a record surrounded by fans who seem desperate to jump to the worst possible scenario.
  7. Good - means he can actually have a half season of playing regularly without being messed around again. Score some goals, come back in the summer and strengthen us even further.
  8. Dendoncker had a stinker recently, but he has played pretty well for us otherwise. Can't see why you're ignoring Duran. Olsen I have to agree on, I'd rather have Sinasalo on the bench.
  9. Baffling answer. He literally scored the winner in the last game. Bailey and Buendia score goals, and indeed did so in the game before that, which we also won. Duran might also be pretty good, seeing as we spent 15m+ on him as a 19 year old.
  10. We've got one game a week and six/seven players in reserve - plus some talented youth. We'll be fine mate.
  11. I think the difference compared to previous occasions are almost like these first choice players are "starting from scratch" under Emery. Let's look at the front six: Kamara - injured and playing in Gerrard's shit midfield system Luiz - in and out of the team under Gerrard Buendia - more out than in the team under Gerrard Ramsey - not utilised correctly under Gerrard Bailey - injured and then barely started under Gerrard Watkins - not utilised correctly under Gerrard They are now being properly coached and can grow together in these remaining 18 games. They know that they are backed and supported by the manager, but at the same time we do have options that can come in if they play poorly - Dendoncker, McGinn, Coutinho, Duran. We've played the transfer window in terms of outs rather than ins, but I totally see why Emery's done it this way.
  12. But, but, signings! They're so great! Completely agree - we've got some very good options and it's time to get behind the team. We have a settled-ish first eleven, all of whom have a player directly behind them (cue Kenneth) waiting to take their spot if they play poorly. They're learning from a proper manager and coaching team each day. I'm more excited about that then signing a over-the-hill striker on loan.
  13. See this is interesting because I could say the same about Ramsey. The fact he's homegrown and has scored a couple of bangers means I think he gets a lot of leeway to his (increasingly frequent) subpar performances. FWIW, I like both and think they will both blossom under Emery.

    Unai Emery

    Are you Cazoo's marketing manager?
  15. Yeah I meant more "regular post-WC squad option" - as you say, his versatility has enabled him to play the other flank until we signed someone Unai wanted.
  16. Can see him moving to be one of our rightback options now Freddie has gone and Moreno has come in. Love his versatility.
  17. Someone like Aboubakar would fit the bill. A real physical presence and handful.
  18. I actually think it's a really interesting debate, in line with the larger conversation around players' ever-growing social media presence. People obviously have a right to do things in their private life and for those things to remain private. However, these four men went as part of essentially a work outing, and then posted these controversial images on social media, on the same "channels" that they use for Aston Villa content. Therefore, I feel it is a reasonable link to then complain that Villa are now being associated with an unseemly topic such as private zoos for chained up exotic animals. Although I wouldn't go as far as jim, I'd agree it's pretty awful behaviour and doesn't reflect well on them at all and I'd hope that someone at the club responsible for public image would be having stern words at some point in the near future.
  19. We've already had one massive Cunha recently with Gerrard, not sure I'm keen for another so soon
  20. Ah brilliant, the Al Wahda Challenge Cup. Unai's got us right in the big trophy mix already.
