I’m very pleased to say I was there in the Witton Lane with my Dad. He’d bought a ticket outside the ground for face value off a bloke who pointing up at the Holte End said, “the lad won’t see any thing in there today, it’s a madhouse. “ he was probably right and the chap did us a favour. The atmosphere was incredible, as was the result although the neutrals will remember their goal, which to be fair was a great goal by Ted McDougal. How  things have changed since then!! UTV!!!! I remember Ray Graydon giving their fullback a hard time and after winning a free kick he picked the ball up and handed it to him with a smile. It was a great moment that probably summed up the spirit of the team back then under Vic Crowe! Wonderful times!!! With more on the way beyond anything we could ever imagine back then and perhaps a reason why we can afford to dare to dream  now!  UTV !!!!!!!!

I can add that I remember Andy Lockhead saying he believed that the Holte actually sucked the ball into the net for his goal. Remembering matches like that puts me firmly into the never leave Villa Park crew but times change so we can’t dismiss the idea totally. Sentimentally plays a part and we should never forget those times but we shouldn’t miss any chance to build some more memories, for those who haven’t been so lucky as those of us who have been previously!! UTV!!!!!

The systematic review referenced below states that:

"Removal of internal metalwork was not routinely undertaken. Twenty cases in all had removal due to prominent screw heads."

    and then:

"The pooled results need to read with caution—although the overall rate of metal removal was <10 %, the rate of secondary surgery to remove painful screws can be almost 50 % .

Yes, I know I said I would never post about medical stuff on here again. My name is Deano and Dalian's Umbrella and I have a problem.

Stay strong, having a screw loose doesn’t make you weird in here!  You’re amongst friends, rest assured!!

Like any predictions of the future regardless of how well thought out,  they can be concluded either in a glass half full or half empty attitude or indeed with a glass thrown to the floor and smashed into tiny pieces. For all of our mental health I’d urge us to try our best to remain possitive. As our last great manager said after a particularly bad result at a particularly important time, would you like to bet against us??

I have an old pal, a Spurs fan who lives in Essex, despite all the evidence he’s a good lad and we regularly exchange texts. After their game at the weekend he concluded that they weren’t good enough to play in the  CL, against the likes of Real Madrid and so wouldn’t be so disappointed if they didn’t finish in the CL places this year. His thoughts could equally apply to us, especially if the powers that be, restrict our ability to strengthen our squad, which they already are doing to try to keep the uppity Brummies out of the  CL anyway. Good job I’m not cynical!!!

I have 40/1 on Villa winning 4.1 , but even I cant see us scoring 4 in the second half

I remember a bloke behind me on the Holte who had us to win 4-0/1 or something like that. All was going well until we scored our 5th!! 😂😂😂😂 UTV!!!!!!

I grew up off Aston Lane (many years ago) and Im sorry but VP is in an awful area with, flithy streets and absolutely no pride taken by the locals whatsoever. Additionaly, there is sod all to do within a several miles vacinity of the ground.

Nobody is going to stay in a hotel in that area. Theres plenty of decent places in the city centre (although still not a single 5 star) and so buying Aston Hall and converting it would make no sense whatsoever and will never happen.

Sadly, the area is a shithole these days and most of the pubs have diappeared sue to the local demographicj not being drinkers.

What we need is an onsite fanzone for matchdays such as Villa live, and more trains to get away from the area quicker post match.

People won't be using Aston/Witton on non match days even if we won 10 Champions Leagues in a row.

Whilst I think what you say about Aston is largely true, that could also be said about lots of areas. I had an old aunty that lived in Alum Rock and my Mom used to say that the area used to be nice and regarded as quite posh in the past. That’s just the passing of time, if we could see into the future we’d be very rich! I’ll let you know if I ever master the trick!!

Fair comment but I think we should try to give the “10 Champions Leagues in a row”, idea a go all the same, you never know?

The official word is the redevelopment is paused because of traffic and transport, nothing has been said about construction or money. Heck has stated the club wants to increase the stadium seating bowl to 45k and invest inside Villa Park to improve the experience for "all fans" rather than just one stand. I think it is about making the existing VP financially viable and boosting revenue for the club. Serious redevelopment takes a lot of time at most football clubs, not just Villa. One step at a time?

In the long term (along with transport upgrades and traffic management/ of course on field success and sporting progression) - I can see them producing a Villa Park resort with Villa Live, Muesum and Hotel etc - Atairos/Wes Edens have investments in companies that manage and develop these sorts of resorts and entertainment hubs. Along with new north and witton stands being built too. Is it possible for the club to buy Aston Hall and convert it into a hotel/fan park? There is lots of potential at VP when you think about it.

The official word may well be a fudge but Heck had just walked through the door and the truth may well be thst he needs more time to assess what the best strategy is, especially given that it will affect us for a long time. He may not like any of the plans he’s been presented with but he doesn’t want to rush into another plan that could end up a poor and unproductive and expensive plan that doesn’t take us forward in the short, medium or long term. I’m sure he and the owners have penty of ideas but they want to take time to get them right before any big glitzy announcement thst they later regret. Which I’m sure with regards to the bigger picture I’m sure is why Chris Heck has been appointed and why Mr Purslow was allowed to leave, without much effort to retain his services.

Away fans often state what a wonderful ground Villa Park is.

That begs the question, “why?”  Away fans aren’t supposed to enjoy themselves!! Ok, I’m partly joking an overall good experience, ruined by the result for them would or should be the ultimate aim. A new stadium in town isn’t a terrible idea and has plenty of merits but would we be able to go, “up town mate?”

Yes I’d agree that most things point towards our future being a good one. Ok it’s not likely that we will win the PL or CL anytime soon but the dreams should never be dismissed completely. In my lifetime we’ve been in the third tier and almost bankrupt on a couple of occasions and yet have won the league and been champions of Europe. I saw my first ever Villa game at Villa Park when we were in the third division, it’s had its ups and downs but never been boring. We’re like no other club on earth, nothing good, bad, glorious or downright disastrously depressing can ever be ruled out and that’s as true today as it was in the 2970s and 80s or more recently. I think that Spurs have a chairman/CEO that’s similar in his mind set to Doug. A good businessman but frightened to spend money on footballers, that being humans aren’t always reliable. I hope he stays at Spurs for a long time yet! Doug did a lot for our club but his faults are well documented, so I won’t go over old ground again! The worst thing he ever did was possibly to sell us to Randy, who’s heart may have been in the right place on the face of it but he wasn’t a proper businessman, who’d msde his own money, things went from bad to worse though when he sold to Xia, who didn’t actually have either money of any idea how to make any. It appears now though that third time lucky we’ve got it right in the football ownership lottery, which our history will tell us that anything could happen but I’d prefer to hope that my glass is half full rather than half empty. Athens in May? Would you bet against us?

1970s or 80s that should say my texting whilst not around back then doesn’t improve with the passing of time!! 😂

    Ok, fair point.

I'll answer the question - Yes, I think it is as bright as we think it is... or should I say, as I  think it is. We've got great owners, a great manager and a very good squad. Its not going to be easy to keep improving, but we are mixing with the big boys. Years ago that was a pipe dream.

The 'bright future' is subjective though. If someone genuinely thought we could win the champions league in a couple of years, then i'd say its perhaps not as bright as that, as I don't think that is realistic.

He looks great on the ball and moving with it, but a total liability off it. He gives away too many fouls and keeps on getting booked early so he becomes a red card risk.

He needs a bit of Unai coaching and he'll come good.

Fortunately he’s in the right place to get all the Unai he needs  and I’m sure he’ll improve as a result. A diamond that needs a cut and polish to really sparkle!

The best centre back we've had in decades and we're discussing moving him to a different position.

Yes but the best centre half we or anyone else, ever had used to play in midfield for his country, so perhaps it shouldn’t be an idea to dismiss so readily? Perhaps as a one off for this game considering the circumstances?

At least you don't support blose who could be getting relegated into league one with a stadium that stinks like shit and is falling down.
