I remember watching that game against Wales like it was yesterday. That 77 side in it's pomp was something special indeed.

Similar to this side now but Ollie might not get in the European Championship team or any other of our players knowing what a complete idiot the national manager is and the huge gulf in quality between him and our club’s manager.

Ollie will probably come back after a 10 minute cameo when he scores the equaliser and the winner in injury time but doesn’t get picked again. He’ll come on to replace  Rice having been 1-0 up but have conceded a couple of goals by playing too deep. Initially Enzri was waiting to come on but Southgate was getting pelters especially when we went behind and Enzri told him he’d be better Off bringing Ollie on who saves the day but hopefully not Southgate’s job who get’s snapped up by BCFC soccer ball club as their 4the manager of the season and despite them sitting 12th the former England manager finds a way to get them relegated on the last day of the season!

Not sure on that. I think we'll try to hang on to what we have but we'll follow a similar model to January.

Newcastle made the CL and their transfer business was Lewis Hall, Tonali and Harvey Barnes. Probably didn't do enough there with all their injuries but could see Howe's thinking in not wanting to disrupt the team spirit and balance of the team.

Issue is if we sign 3-4 high calibre players that will further increase the wage bill so we will remain in danger of FFP breaches if we then don't secure CL the following season.

From what I remember aswell once we're eliminated from CL there isn't Europa league drop in either.

Don’t worry Chris we’ll win it in our first season, then win the PL so qualifying won’t be a worry UTV!!!!

Hopefully he’ll get 19 goals between now and the end of the season just to warm up for next season and our CL win next year, with him and Ollie firing we can make it a double by throwing the PL in too. FA Cup the following year to keep the glory years rolling!!!

I meant 10 goals this season not 19, I’m an optimist not a lunatic!! If he gets 19 then I’ll take the credit for my forward thinking!!

Is he Zaniolo's replacement? Seems to be ready made and can be brought in gradually until the end of the summer. Not thrown straight in.

I remember after that game, every time we played a team who continually passed the ball back to the keeper, the Holte would sing, "you're worse than Everton, you're worse than Everton".

My Dad’s car broke down on the way home just to add a bit more gloom to the day, all was well that ended well though. Thanks to Chris and of course Brian who was on top water walking form as usual. How many Englsnd csod did he get? Whatever it was it should have been at least double!!!  I remember Bobby Charlton being critical of the decision to not play him against Scotland after he has come on and saved the game for us against Wales. Englsnd managers eh? They’ve always been rubbish, ok the present one is worse than normal but not so unusual to be clueless.

aopologies for letting Brian hijack an Irishman’s thread! I’m sure you were used to him grabbing the headlines throughout your career Chris. UTV!!!! RIP big fella!

Little scored 10 goals in the competition that year. Not sure if this is a record

He didn’t score any for  Man U or Liverpool so it has been eradicated from History

semantics, he's not the CEO. he's the "President of Business Operations". That title is interesting, because to me he is therefore mostly responsible for any financial decisions the club makes, but other things don't fall under his remit (unless it is a business decision". Splitting up Purslow's responsibilities between Unai, Monchi, & Heck was an interesting choice though tbf.

At what point did Purslow have responsibility for coaching and selecting the first team?

Based on zero evidence or quotes from Dean. As was stated earlier by @Keyblade Sanson was being played by Deano after he joined, then got injured and was just coming back fit when Dean was sacked.

So would you say that the sacking of Dean and the appointment of SG was  big factor in Morgan leaving? Or does it go further than that? If so are the club ultimately to blame?

I would be very surprised if that's the case. The club have stated it's not something they are considering and have further stated that they never see us leaving Villa Park.

It's increasingly odd to me that the club backed out of plans to develop a single stand on the basis that they were too ambitious and the fanbase have taken that disappointment to mean not ambitious enough. The reaction borders on the peculiar.

"We're not buying a new Ford Focus this year, the old one is perfectly suitable for the driving we're doing".

"Wait, you mean....we're buying a Ferrari?"

An Aston Martin would be more appropriate. In claret and blue too please none of that red rubbish here thank you very much!

I don’t really. Just tongue in cheek

I’ve been on holiday there with my , now wife and we both loved it, I’ve also st various times won contracts down there and had a good time too, so it’s fair to say I like that part of the world, I’ve no real opinion on Marcus Trethscothic to be honest, all I know of him is that he was a batsman for England and whilst fairly average if he represented his country he couldn’t have been too bad, almost certainly a better batsman than me, that’s for sure!!

  11. What is the site,  that Villa Park sits on, worth without Villa Park, ok to most of us without Villa, it’s worth naff all but it must have some value? If, as I suspect, this is fairly low we could “gift” it to the council, in exchange for something that is of a higher intrinsic value to us. Over all I’d say it’s all up on the air as far as income is concerned bums on seats is largely not worth what it was but the spectacle of a huge crowd is important to the viewing public and probably to the players too, home advantage is still important. So I think the view of Heck and the owners is probably that a new big super stadium is a valuable goal in terms of image but needs to bring in money more often thsn 19 times a year and possibly local and national government are important to get on board when considering the bigger picture. CL football in the city of Birmingham ultimately needs to be an attractive proposition for the whole of the midlands area and there’s only one way to get that, which is of course Villa being successful on the pitch and then us exploiting that commercially, which is probably through TV, wether we like it or not. It’s sadly no longer 1981or 82. Villa Park is a wonderful old stadium as a whole and is liked by many fans other than us but it needs to be modernised and let’s be honest the only stand we really care about is the Holte, which id like to think in any development it will be considered and remain a huge stand that is kept separate from the rest of the stadium, hopefully a single terrace that scares the living daylights out of the opposition players and fans alike. So success on the pitch is, as always massively important for lots of reasons, some measured in the heart but equally plenty in the accounts. Unless the PL move the goal posts again. Although I’m pretty sure £ will play a huge role wherever ths goal posts are put! To build a lasting legacy NAS and Wes probably have to rebuild the city of Birmingham or at least take plenty of credit for doing so. I’m pretty sure this uncertainty is what’s really holding up the north stand plans. If we don’t have a new super stadium in the midlands then someone else will either in the midlands or not! Adidas Villa Park in Birmingham the heart of England homebto the European Champions and GB Athletics etc…………also the Tom Hanks Multiplx experience and the biggest concert venue in Europe where you can visit The Ozzy Zone and it the head off a Blue Nose in front of a huge audience!  Ok the last one might not get council approval! But you get my drift!
