  10. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/aston-villa-close-in-on-liverpool-target-jordan-veretout-as-nantes-president-admits-defeat-10420897.html It's in the Independent now Aston Villa close in on Liverpool target Jordan Veretout as Nantes president admits defeat Aston Villa are confident of beating Liverpool and Tottenham to Nantes midfielder Jordan Veretout after the French club's president admitted a deal is 'basically agreed'. The talented 22-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer and, following Fabian Delph's controversial departure to Manchester City this month, Tim Sherwood has stepped up his chase in recent weeks. Villa have reportedly agreed a fee in the region of £10.4m for the France Under-21s star but Liverpool and Spurs are monitoring the situation and are ready to strike if talks break down

  14. I am not having a pop at the snake but that is twice as many goals as he managed in 81 appearances - his entire PL career with us! Didn't work too well for Newcastle....... In fairness Newcastle had like 10 players out of 18 all French at one point and Dummett was the only homegrown player at times starting. Completely different here. Well it makes Villa a more attractive proposition to good French players like Jordan Veretout and that has to be a good thing doesn't it? You say "it didn't work too well for Newcastle" but we are hardly comparable in terms of numbers. It is also worth noting that they finished 10th in 2014 and were sitting at 10th before Pardew left – I would take 10th this season thank you very much.... Oh, and Arsenal have about 5 French players and they seem to do OK…
  15. Our French strategy is quite clever. It is like we are building a little French community. If I was a young French player looking for a good club to start in ‘la Premier League’ I could think of no better place than ‘la grande Aston Vila’ at the moment. Bien fait Tim bien fait!!
  16. Jesus, I am gobsmacked. Just popped in for a daily dose of speculation and read all this. Seems like those buses are here... If this happens we need a GOOD song about the three Jordans....
  17. I wish we could change that tbh. Bring back the days when we had more variety and better quality songs. I’ll probably get slaughtered for this, but to me there are too many pithy chants that are no more than one or two lines. They’re done and finished before they get going. We need more proper songs! Songs like 'Yippi Aye Eh, Yippi Aye Oh' are OK but lets be honest the short version hardly rivals a rendition of YNWA does it? Isn’t about time the Villa faithful created some new rousing songs that build and create real lasting noise? It seems these days everyone wants to go for the most basic chants - the simpler the better! But why don't we have any songs with a couple of clever versus anymore? Longer songs mean more singing, more noise and that creates a better atmosphere. There are probably some great options in this thread but if no one picks them up and gets them going we’ll just get more of the same old crap two-liners. Just my opinion but it frustrates me when hear some of the guff these days.
  18. It's interesting. I have seen a few of these speculative starting 11s posted recently and in each case we are suddenly struggling to fit our better players into the starting 11. That has got to be a very good sign.
