I am sure Emery knows what he needs to add (and improve) our squad but if he had any reservations all should be clear now. Wide midfielder and support striker yes, but we need additional squad members in midfield plus a right back of course.

This is true but is this just for starters? Unai has been quoted as saying that he needs two players for each position so in a couple of years will our squad look more like Man City’s now? I’ve been supporting Villa for 70 years and I’ve never been more optimistic.

The stats I’ve seen show him as ACM, CM, DM. If true it seems he can play anywhere in midfield - just what we need.

Makes you wonder about stats taken in isolation. Perhaps they need to be factored according to the league the player is in.

Yes we are facing a fascinating summer and we need to appreciate that we will aiming to bring in top quality players wherever we can. Thinking a player “will never come to Villa” will not be automatically applicable.

I am hoping our situation has not been ruined permanently. For me the problem is the further behind you fall the longer and harder it is to come back. This is why I am fully behind the way our owners are taking the club forward because they are not “short term fix” merchants.
