  1. not a chance, MoN has stated that barry above any other villa player, is the one who could play for ANY team in the premiership, if he thinks that, he thinks he is our best player, if he thinks he is our best player, he wont sell him unless he has to. does he have to sell anyone?
  2. "wee bit" can mean either loads or a little. i doubt MoN or any manager would say they are going to sign loads of players or indeed, only 1, it gives the game away and may also upset the small squad we have at our disposal.
  3. i know clubs are not keen to sell now, hence paying the inflated price for the services. im sure the prices will be even more come summer time when there is a dutch auction for players, especially when there will be most of the premiership with money burning a hole in their pockets. at the moment, there are not many teams who are in a postion to buy, in the range we are looking to buy. arse, chelsea, man ure and liverpoo aside, and they would at this stage have different targets i guess. this leaves spurz, west ham and maybe everton with cash although everton are in a lot of debt. it just feels that for once, we have the advantage and by wafting money under the noses of the targets we want, may do the trick. come summer time, we will be on an even keel with the majority of the teams and any advantage ( unless we qualify for europe) is gone.
  4. just a thought. would it not make sense to buy in as many of the ones MoN wants now, rather than wait until summer time when all the teams will start spending the money before they get it from the new premiership deal? i would rather we paid 10 million for bent, 10 million for swp and so on, now, rather than have 8 teams fighting it out for each player and the prices going even more inflated. we are in a position now where we should be able to grab the players we want and need now, then in the summer the new spopnsorship deal can come in and recoup the spending. we would also get alot more money on sponsorship having a couple superstars or at least top quality players in the team. i remember the crazy days of anyone in a premier team costing £3 million at the very least, no matter how rubbish they were. at least if we got players in now, we would be saved the even more inflated prices come the summer time. also gives us time to have a proper preseason build up on the pitch and off it.
  5. looks like i saw through the thinly veiled " we wont sell him ever" stance.
  6. just thought i would point out joe cole, michael carrick, glen johnson and jermaine deffoe, did we all considered them crap?, as they all played for west ham the season they got relegated, not sure if lampard played any part in that season but with those players all part of that team, they went down. im no fan of the shrunken headed one, however as we are lacking firepower and players all over the field, a premiership forward, not at the end of their carreer would be a welcome boost. i also agree though that why should we be the ones linked to him as west am want to sign bent? ok so bent played for curbs before, but why play in the championship next ear when you can play for the real claret and blue?
  7. is bent injured? or is it a ploy by chorlton to sell him now and spend the money on replacements, stating that he wouldnt be playing for a whole month anyway? a way of appeasing the fans of chorlton. swp bent finnan dystin gamst pedersen thankyou.
  8. you say that, it wouldnt suprise me if swp speaks to his dad, his dad is a big fan of MoN, maybe 'wrighty' can persuade son number 1 that it would be better for his england chances and for his long term development?
  9. We have lost players we have wanted to keep in the past, yorke, Southgate, Ehiuogu, Boateng..........all left because, once more money is offered, and they are enticed - you just cant keep them. For once, I believe, and I may be proved to be wrong, the boot is on the other foot as we have the money to entice players that our 'rivals' don't want to lose. Would Pardew really turn down 13M to spend on his own players in his quest to keep charlton up?????? really??? Distin WILL go to the highest bidder, and whoever is willing to meet his 50k wage demands. Barton, if he has a clause, will most probably do likewise..... got to agree with this, £13 million may be a little too much but certainly £10 million and the djemba twins for bent. £10 million would get charlton 4 championship players. they are going to have to down scale slightly now, like blues did, signing deejay camel when they did. otherwise they are gambling with the whole future of the club, if they go down bent wont go for as much money and they are stuck with players on big money and poor crowds who wont help pay for the wages. they could sign 3 players with the money, and all 3 would be proven quality for the championship, they are going to have to gamble a little as by keeping bent, hasnt done them any good so far this season.
  10. Defo agree that we need a new RB that gets forward. james milner?
  11. i thought most stadiums with sponsors names were names because the sponsor paid for the majority of the stadium and the stadiums were in gerneral new builds? i would not like it for villa park to be completely renamed, infact i would rather it left as villa park. maybe changing the way we have sponsors in the ground would do for starters, instead of being sponsored by big johns chippy on a couple banners , why not have corperate sponsors in the ground and the local business in the match day programmes? and changing the old crap boards for electronic things all the way around the ground and maybe renaming the ellis stand and the north stand to one sponsor, then if it is a positive responce from the fans, get ground sponsorship and get the 2 stands renamed on a public vote on what we want the names to be.
  12. randy for me also. football is a business nowdays, not a plaything for the rich. chelsea will go under if the russian gets bored. i want the club run as it has been but with everything in larger scale ( not the debt obviously). an initial spend and business plans to recouperate and make a profit. steady investment into the team and club which will bring steady improvement in the team and club. then if in 5 years randy departs, the club is still a going concern rather than concern if it is still going.
  13. im going for 3 dont know why as we show no signs of getting anyone else but then again most have come from no where.
  14. because distin has apparently stated that if swp goes, he wants to as it shows a lack of amition to get rid of your best players ( although it didnt do everton any harm did it?)
  15. i dont see the point in comparing phillips to yakubu or forsell, we didnt try and buy either of those, first tentitive offers were sounded out but no solid bid for either where as beattie there was a proper bid on the table as there was for phillips. i went for phillips. phillips is 31, this to many appears to be a bad thing. how old is figo? how old is nobby? how old was merson, mcgrath and many others who still gave good service at this age? dublin was no spring chicken when we got him but he did a job for us.
  16. hehe, with all this talk of take overs and the like this brought a smile to my face. thanks for that one.
  17. saha on loan for 1 year from the mancs? it seems they are wanting him to go out on loan for a year. if this IS the case then a cheeky 6 million bid should be tempting to fergie ( not the fit bird from black eyed peas but the dour faced scottish tit who miss manages manc ure)
  18. technically it is what ever people will pay for it, on the other hand we have someone in his 80's who doesnt need the money. i think he will only sell to who he thinks would be right for villa, even if it meant getting less money than someone he thought would not be good for the club. but 60-80 million is still a snip.
  19. ashton needs to be bought quick, otherwise i can see either chelski or arse buying him and loaning him to norwich for the season and then having him in the starting line up once another years experience. parker is a must buy, he can play most places and is a david platt sort of player malbranque im not sure about, he does do some great things but how many midfielders have we already got and bearing in mind berson is ' only for certain games and passes the ball too much' can you see d'ol buying another? yakubu or owen would be the last choice, i think the 20 million newcastle thing is all rubbish, the money isnt as free flowing as it once was. so i think owen could be got for 8 to 10 million ( alledgedly 1/2 our budget although no numbers have been put forward officially by the board) either would be worth it as they can both produce their own goals from little. oh and carlton cole?? no thank you.
  20. BB Kev Gage owns my local pub now - see him quite often ahhh thats right, i remember about 10 months ago we had this one. i thought kevin gage was awesome, lots more skill than credited for. he was the mastermind behind the 6-2 win at villa park against everton ( ok so sid got 2 goals but kev started it with a move involving ormonroyd)( i think, it was so long ago) get him a drink for me will you drat
  21. voted for A_N OTHER, kevin gage was one of my faves during the taylor years, him and shaun teale man of steal.
  22. well if villa have contacted liver poo over baros which seems true, then i presume we would have to pay money for him of at least 2 million, so im guessing that we have atleast 2 million left. with the knuckle draggers buying peskey it has placed pressure on ellis to deliver a couple big name players ( not the huge names but big names) so i dont for one minute hold the same negative view when it concerns money for players. i would say that there is another 5-6 million left for players as this would be the money that we got for the possition in the league. it wont have escaped dougs attention that when we climbed the table we appeared on more live games than were planned which also meant more money and as DOL had only bought 3 players was being given a dry run before a large amount of money was made available.
  23. it is the weekend, even football managers have time off work. i would say the next signing will be next thursday at the earliest, that gives players time to sign, medicals, contracts and the rest of the crap that goes with signing a player nowdays. oh and i still think he may go for matteo
