  1. If Cuellar looked 'solid' last night - I would hate to see a shaky centre half performance. Expose foe lack of pace - and panic clearances.
  2. Yep - we brought the wrong bloke in Downing - we should have brought Bent. Albrighton can cover for Ash. Agree about the subs - as someone else as has said - where do we go from here - Mon won't drop Petrov or Cuellar - and has said he won't be buying a striker. In short unless villa can be a force with Petrov, Heskey and Cuellar in the team - it isn't happening under MON.
  3. End of this season. He will resign, with his reputation held high - as he has taken us as far as he can. Thats why he won't buying in Jan - he won't be here much longer himself
  4. Words fail. So does O'Neill. Yes, because finishing 6th twice is a row is failling. Would you like to name a manager who could take over then? Or will you continue to spout off with your rubbish without actually naming a replacement? Its 2 questions :- How good is MON ? Who feasibly could do better ? I think MON is one of the better managers - but he is certainly no genius - he seems to get himself in a promising position, screw up, but then recover. I doubt anyone who we could feasibly attract could top what MON does. Would like to see some academy players given a chance, and Heskey dispensed with.
  5. Not just on tonight's performance. But has MON done all that is humanly possible to make us great again ? - and can he possibly take us any further ?- in short is top 6 and cup run as good as it gets under MON - given the size of the club, the established top 4 , and the superior wealth of other clubs ?
  6. Just Answer me, Why Beye and not last years player of the season ?
  7. This  Yep - MON'S ship has sailed. Its as far as we go with him. He isn't a bad manager - but his reputation is way overstated. Very similar to Graham Taylor. I beleive the weekend rumour that this will be his last season - and he will announce as much in the new year.
  8. Does this mean - we will have a right back , playing at right back on saturday ? ....Forgot Cueller is one of Martins Mates !
  9. But 6th isn't good enough - when 4th is there on a plate. A team who haven't won since august - have had to sell players, and have an injury crisis.
  10. I would say he also has zero faith in our academy
  11. It times like this ...when I wonder why MON is so rated.....wasn't the obvious thing to do to play Luke Young ? We seem to by held back by MON trying to accommodate players who we should never have signed, Beye, Heskey, Petrov
  12. Hi General. an easy one for you. Our official nickname is the 'Villians' - however this seems to be an embarrassment to the club (not just since RL took over) - but it seems we are more keen to promote the lions as a nickname, rather than the villians ......I just wondered if this was club policy ? - if so why, ...and what are the chances of the official nickname being restored ? Sure we will win Monday !
  13. I would select GK-Guzan RB-Beye CB-Cuellar CB-Davies LB-Shorey DM-Petrov \ NRC if Petrov not fit DM-Delph LW-Ashley ST-Delfonso RW-Milner ST-Carew but think MON will be more cautious:- GK-Freidel RB-Beye CB-Cuellar CB-Davies LB-Shorey DM-Petrov DM-NRC LW-Ashley AM-Gabby RW-Milner ST-Heskey
  14. We don't have the quality for a top 4 finish. We need players to overachieve to do this. Anything above 8th will surprise me.
  15. This result on its own shouldn't worry anyone. But the fact that it comes on the back of barley winning a game since Jan, a manager who seems clueless in the transfer market, and the season 3 weeks away. I can honestly see us really struggling next season.
  16. I think the opposite is true - the reason SF is rippin through england is that sick people are going to work - and sending their kids to school.
  17. Nice Article. The fly in ointment for me - is that MON seems to have lost the ability to motivate his players - this was always his strength. Fergie and the others mave dropped clangers, but were / are always putting bits of sliverware on the shelf - even in the form of League and FA cups - MON hasn't even come close to an interim trophy. Because MON is MON - people blindy have faith that in the long term he will put things right - unfortunately I believe he doesn't have that time - Unless we are regulary winning home matches by Christmas, Randy will surprise people and show him the door
  18. OK - General - I will be stumping over £700 tomorrow - for 2 season tickets ......my request.....how about a different photo on the cover of the matchday programme for each game (we could even start with a picture of yourself ...from your army days if you like) Seriously my lads we wowing over old programmes - especially the front covers ....any chance ?
  19. Not quite sure who you are defending here ........ Are you saying the defence is ok - but the rest of the team is to attack minded thus leaving us exposed ? Football isn't nearly as complicated as you suggest - some of the players in that defence aren't good enough,(Cuellar) , Cutis Davies has at times played very well , but is still young, and can not yet command a defence on his own. As you imply loosing Laursen was a big blow. But not unexpected - but the players MON brought in as cover Knight, Cuellar are some way short. Knight I can accept has a role as a squad player - however I see nothing in Cuellar to suggest he can cut it in the premier league - he's 28 as well - so he isn't that young.
  20. Wonder when this will turn on MON - We haven't won a premier games in 8 - and only 5 at home all season. and weve been saying 'next summer he will bring the players in' for to long now .......why should this summer be any different ?
  21. The question for me is when does he stop becoming the man , who took celtic all over europe and leciester to 2 league cups wins - and become the man who paid almost £12m for Cuellar & Heskey , and abdicated in the later stages of a european competetion
  22. Just another note - after sending a reserve side to competitive match - I won't be renewing my season ticket - or that of my 2 young sons, both of whom are villa fanatics - and the younger had a lump in his throat - when I told him , that Barry, Young, Gabby - were chosen for the match.
  23. Petrov is the one I would drop, playing milner wide right, and NRC along side barry. But MON has stuck with petrov through thick and thin - so I suspect petrov will remain in the team - at least in the short term. Think Milner will remain a playing sub in the short term as well.

    Thanks

Top article - one of the best - a whip back - to the gung ho games and fans of the 70's - the hooligans of the 80's - and now as you say football as a product. As you may know, Im a pretty cynical villa fan - I f I can spot a weakness, so can the opposition. - I really conceding 2 goals yesterday was a travesty - Man city didn't deserves 2 goals. Anyway- Iam optmistic right, when Hansen and Lee Dixon - gave their ill informed verdict that the top 4 was already decided - I thought - you are wrong, so wrong - theres a revolution down at VP - maybe not the big names players we (i) would have hoped - but the realisation that building the ultimate team (ie players that blend) - can compete with an expensive collection of individuals .
