  1. Hi General, 1.Is the wages that are a problem ?- or that fact that a good bulk of those wages are paid to players who never play in the first team ? 2. Although it wasn't always spent as I would have liked - I feel that funds given to Martin were instrumental to getting us top 6- would you envisage similar funding for the next manager ? 3.Who's your tip for top scorer next season ?
  2. Yes - I noticed that. The quotes in the Aticle imply the opposite of the headline. in that he says 'Lets wait and see'
  3. Maybe I am old fashioned - but if you get a top manager - on say £1m a year- he only has to uncover one gem of a player to make his salary worthwhile. From what you say you are expecting Alan Curbishley then ?
  4. Despite doing a lot things I didn't agree with, (Harewood, Heskey, No Darren Bent) you can't argue that MON got results. But its a squad game now - and MON couldn't do this. IMO this is what needed to dome to move us on a level. Thats why I am not to sad at his departure. BUT the next manager probably will use the squad more - but may have failings in other areas. So Yes I am optimistic the next manager may address some of MON shortcomings - but equally catious that he may bring other shortcomings
  5. Heard a lot people say Roberto Martinez would be good for villa - am I missing something ? - Why Any way he's the second favourite manager to next be sacked - Ian Holloway first.
  6. please not Hughes,we'd play shit football for a start while kicking shite out of other teams.i dont mean to sound bad,bud i'd rather a manager from outside the uk for a change, someone like Jol that can get us playing football,i'm sick of us playing a crap style of football some pass and move would be nice.plus a better style will put bums on seats meaning more money.. Dunno about this. There are those who call Jose Mourino's football drab. - Start winning a few games and the good football will flow.
  7. Would Fulham be prepared to let Hughes go ? - maybe if they could snare MON as a replacement - its a scenario where everyone wins Fulham think they would be getting a better manager Villa think they would be getting a better manager Hughes was never first choice as Fulham Boss Hughes gets a bigger club to manage 23-1 with some bookies
  8. You never can tell - but it would certainly be very high risk.
  9. I think the smart move maybe to wait it out until one of the big guns becomes available. Early season results haven't gone that well for Jol. Also don't forget MON is viewed as a top calibre manager - if Liverpool or Fulham or Everton slump early on - would there not be a bit of pressure on the directors of these clubs - to grab O'Neil ? - You could argue he was the manager liverpool wanted all along.
  10. The same source that told me *last September* that MON was unhappy - has the following snippet If the Results are good Kevin Mac will get a contract as Villa Boss There will be money for players for a new manager - although this will may not materilse until next summer A good whack of the players were glad to see the back of MON - not just the ones that weren't getting a game.
  11. If Lerner Can't get his top man - A very long shot - could be Brian Little until the end of the season.
  12. Per the bookies its between sven 2.5/1 and bod bradley 5/1. I guess thats fits in with Randy saying he wants it sorted quickly, Hence Jol out at 12/1 Anyone remember that son 'John Ketley is a weather man' - I m kinda thinking 'bob bradley Bob bradleeey Bob Bradleeeeeeey He a villaman' I can almost hear it - coming from the holte end !
  13. Sven is a management playboy. He is motionless on the touchline, and his laid back approach would quickly get on everyones wick. Does any of this matter ? - not directly - but it quickly builds as non committment to the cause. All that said - with 2 days until the big kick we could do a lot worse. He has experience of managing big clubs, and managing in the PL - On paper only JOL comes close - and he will take some shifting.
  14. The Pope is in Birmingham in a few weeks time - you can't get much higher than that.
  15. Yes, yes, yes and yes. Apart from the fact he has joined west ham earlier in the summer ?
  16. Curbishley is favourite on some betting sites. Cheap, a safe pair of hands, would work well with the kids.
  17. A friend of mine who knows a physio at villa - reckons we are prepared to pay £16m for Carlton Cole ?????
  18. A bloke I met on holiday - who claimed to have a source close to JM said that Milner is a very level headed and dedicated footballer - and would be really surprised if he wanted to quit villa - if would be more of a case that villa may receive an offer to good to turn down.
  19. How has Cuellar got 7 votes for MOTM - thought he was very poor tonight - don't forget we paid £8m for this guy. Plenty of effort - villa ran there socks off - and despite the result, this was one of the best games I have seen at VP for ages. Petrov seems to have taken defensive midfielder to new extremes !!!! - the number of times he got the ball in a fairly advanced position - he should have run on with it - but he stopped, slowed the game down, then played an 8 yard sideways pass to cuellar !
  20. my feeds gone - I have the linesman with his flag up ? - did it count
  21. Yup, thats more or less my thinking as well. Yes I agree - but but with a note of Caution.I think any decent manager and a reasonable amount of cash can get you top 8. I don't know the figures but Fulham and the blues spring to mind. However MON has had considerably more cash than those to.....and is considered to be a bit more than a 'decent' manager. I am hoping that MON'S low point can be the springboard - a bit like Graham Taylor - who came within a whisker of relegation - before getting runners up sport next year. And Ron Saunders who survived a boardroom plot to oust him - and unpopular with fans over the sale of our heroes , Gray, Gidman, Deehan, etc - but the came back stronger. Heres hoping !
  22. Well I did hear back in September - that MON was annoyed with the flak he got in the transfer window. I heard that he just can't get the players he wants to come to villa - they just don't want to come. He has no problems with Randy or the players - he just doesn't see it going any further. The story followed that he would announce his intention to quit early in 2010 - thats passed in my book. For all his flaws I hope he doesn't. A new manager would just bring a different set of shortcomings.
  23. My Heart says he's a good manager - and we should stick with him. What I can't get out of my head - is that I don't see him doing what IMO needs to be done. Buy better players than Heskey and Petrov. I still think he will persist with the Beye, Zat Knight type signings - its just not going to work. He also recently lashed against the fans - without any real provacation - the booing at wolves was nominal - and his 'i don't know what the fans want' seemed out of fustration. I also heard whispers in the summer that he was very unhappy with the flak he got about the lack of transfers.
