  1. He look desperate to get fit, so he can fight for his place. He's definitely had his nose put out of joint with Carlos' arrival. The squad is looking really hungry. If we can steer clear of injuries then I think we'll have a good season.
  2. Looking at that gallery, it really does look like Luiz has no intention of going anywhere. Looks very happy and settled.
  3. If Carney leaves for Barca then his intelligence is obviously lacking! If he thinks he is finding it hard to breakthrough at Villa, Barca have a plethora of talented youngsters and loads of quality players in his position. Pedri has just come through in his position and isn't going anywhere. He would be doing more harm to his career. I doubt he intends to go anywhere this summer, but full intends to keep his options open. I believe Villa have the option of an extra year extension on his contract which would run his contract to 2024 also.
  4. Gallagher has had one good season in the prem. How can he be regarded higher than JWP when JWP has proved himself over several seasons and had a better season than Gallagher last season. If we want prospects in midfield, we have Ramseys, we have Chuk, we have big Tim. Gallagher isn't even the type pf player we need. I'd like to see either a ball winner who looks after the ball well, or an expansive passer. Gallagher is niether.
  5. I like Sangare, but I think he would struggle in the premier league. On the ball, all the good stuff he does he is always taking two touches to set himself, he won't get the time to do that in this league. In Holland playing for one of the two best teams he's good. But midtable in the prem, he'd get found out.
  6. Fortunately I'm not on twitter, I prefer to keep clear of all that twatter!
  7. He is easily the best Englishman on the pitch. But that isn't saying much! Pressing has been crap, passing has been crap, and they're too spread out and just not compact enough out of possession. looks to me like England have been getting by thanks to the quality of their players, rather than being a good team! Carney needs a loan!
  8. My point was Otavio offers us options in 3 or 4 different positions. Which is why he'd be a smart signing. Traore hasn't been forgotten, I'm just not convinced. I also mentioned him in my earlier post. Otavio would still be an improvement on both JJ and Mcginn, regardless.
  9. If we are to line up with two playmaker 10's like Coutinho and Buendia then have a 3rd player that can play in a similar vein makes sense, as this is a squad game. Buendia gets injured every now and then and Coutinho is a little injury prone. Relying on just those two isn't sensible. Yes we have Ings and Bailey who I both rate (really hoping Bailey shows something good this coming season). BTW I'd say Coutinho is our most creative player. I think we have at least 2 signings left in us, possibly 3. If we sign Otavio and / or a defensively minded midfielder then that will follow outgoings I suspect. If Dougie moves on then that defensively minded midfielder comes in. If we move on Sanson or Mcginn then someone like Otavio will come in. If Ashley doesn't sign another contract with us then a back up left back will definitely come in too.
  10. I agree we need a strong midfielder that can play both DM and box to box. This player also needs to be technically gifted and mobile. However a midfield with Otavio and Ramsey in front of Kamara is still a good midfield. It's horses for courses. If we want to control possession and break down teams with invention, flair, and creativity then this midfield will do that. Man City usually only have Rodri as DM with two playmaker type midfielders which are usually able to play wide and as a CAM. Otavio is a player that can play numerous positions, so will probably get game as both a CM, CAM, and as one of our 2 no 10's. The qualities he brings are most important, and workrate, pressing ability, press resistance, passing, and creativity are all qualities that fit in with how Gerrard wants us to play football. I have mentioned in earlier posts that another winger / 10 would be useful if we are moving on Traore. So I see no reason we can't sign Otavio and another defensively minded midfielder. Extra creativity in midfield, a high workrate 10, a back up DM, and a ball winning 8, all wrapped up in two smart signings would cover all bases! Then we would be ready for all opponents!
  11. There is no way he'd be offered anywhere near that. Even 40k per week is excessive for a player that has done very little. Hudson-Odoi exploded on the the scene and was courted by bayern to play for their first team. it's a different level. A serious injury has set him back. I doubt he is on 120k a week. These figure get blown up. I'm sure Williams is isn't on 65k a week, and if he is Man U's CEO must be on crack!
  12. Rice is quality. Strong, not slow, energetic, good passer, and reads the game well. Soucek on the other hand is good when used in a particular way, but he is cumbersome and an average passer at best. West Ham's main threat came from set pieces, with Soucek being one of the main dangers. Soucek when used as the most advanced of a 3 will get goals, and put himself about. But as one of a two, his limitations become apparent. Someone compared him to Fellani, which i think is very apt.
  13. That's strange as I see a powerful, but slow and cumbersome player that finishes well but passes poorly! Definitely not what we need.
  14. I'm happy with the business so far. Exactly what we need in terms of both position and quality. We all agreed we should sign Coutinho permanently, and we did. Needed a permanent no 2, we got one. Needed a quality specialist 6 that can actually defend, we got one. Needed a quality RCB to improve our central defense. We got one. We all agreed we needed a back up left back and a DM / defensive 8, which I believe we are working on. Striker and Winger would be icing on the cake signings. So far so good, just a couple more in. The base of the team looks solid. Martinez, Mings, Carlos, Kamara, plus Cash and Digne.
  15. Things have been fairly quiet for a while now. No strong links, everything seems made up or a re- hashing of old links. Seems to me like we are working on something very secretive. Or just focusing on shedding the deadwood.
  16. He is more of a CAM, winger is his secondary position.
  17. I mentioned another midfielder as well as a left back. I didn't say we shouldn't aim high. Realistically though there is nothing to indicate top 6 is on the cards. 8th would be a good season. Top six would be a great season. Champions league would be dream land.
  18. We have far too many question marks over us to claim top six. Our Attack for example, Coutinho is great but inconsistent. Buendia was starting to look decent. Bailey has had an injury nightmare. Watkiins is workman like, but not top draw. Ings looks past his best. This could all be turned on it's head, but so many questions. So long as we can build a strong base with Carlos, Kamara and another 6 that can play 8 i'll be happy. If we can add a young dynamic left back that can be Digne's successor in a 2 or 3 season i'll be very happy. Then we can work on the attack next summer, as all the players i mentioned deserve another season to show what they can do.
  19. You say that but Raphinha plays in Saka's position, and Jesus scores less goals than Ollie Watkins. They will improve their squad for sure, but their first team line up is a best fractionally stronger. Arsenal were miles ahead of us last season anyway. If just Kamara does well for us then we are already closer.
  20. I think Lampard could really help Winks. Lampard had similar limitations as a player, so he could bring the best out of him. Having said that Everton do appear to be collecting overrated midfielders that fell from grace!
  21. Sangare is getting a lot of time and space in this highlights video. He seems to almost always needs 2 touches to get the ball under control. I think his quality on the ball would be lacking. Kone is outmuscling a lot of players in his highlight reel, but how many prem footballers would he be able to do that too? I think both would struggle in the premier league.
  22. He plays that 9 position, but he drops deep a bit not always on the shoulder of the last defender.
  23. I'd take Barbosa if the fee was under 15 million. The common knowledge is that Barbosa was very young and struggled to settle. Ability and talent was never in doubt. Tim Vickery I think said that he is far more mature and focus now and would fair much better. The only problem with him is he isn't an out and out striker and as much a creator as a goalscorer. The other thing is I'm not sure how he'd do with the physicality of the Premier league. He would ba gamble, but for the right price worth a gamble, as his talent is prodigious, and we have 3 Brazilians here to help him settle.
  24. He's been on Villa book since 7 or 8 I believe. He is literally the exact type of striker we need, we still need him to prove himself a quality operator at Premier league level. But he can get in behind, work the channels, drop off and link up, good touch and movement, good finisher. I really hope he can be our main striker for the next 12 years.
