  1. Some posters in here have said that Lerner seems naive...I don't believe that for a second that Lerner is even remotely naive in anything, he is american billionaire businessman and he clearly likes to do things correctly but I bet he can be as shrewd and fierce as any other owner of the premier league club but he chooses not to...and who gets to meet that side of Lerner will probably regret it.

I know Aston Villa fans wish that he wouldn't be as nice as he seems to be, which I sometimes hope as well but there's time and place for everything.

Lets clear one thing up. Randy is no Branson or Sugar.

Randy did not MAKE billions He was just lucky enough to be born into a family where he inherited a fortune, and an already successful business which is more than likely just looking after itself by the infrastructure put into place long before he had anything to do with it. There are probably extremely astute, and highly qualified people working for the company who make all the decisions that continue the success of the company.

This is a far cry from what is happening at Aston Villa. He has people running the club/advising him about how to run it who have no idea about football. He takes advice from someone who has no interest in the future of Aston Villa with regards to who he should appoint as manager? (SAF on AML) How pathetic.

A GOOD businessman finds people who know the business to run the business. A GOOD businessman doesn't ask his competitors about what is good for his own business. A GOOD businessman doesn't upset his clients by doing exactly what they don't want.

The man may have good intentions - but he clearly has NO clue.

  2. Appalling manager. His track record suggested he would be, and he went on to prove that the fans fears were not unfounded.

However, he was not at fault for his appointment.

I, for one, will not be blinded by the relief of his departure. Whoever made the decision in the first place is the person to blame for our appalling season - not McLeish. Everyone and their dog knew what McLeish offers. The decision to hire him was as ridiculous as the thought of Randy hiring Nick Leeson as operations manager for MBNA.

The lack of any other 'heads rolling' suggests to me that it was Randy's decision - which is a worry.

Clueless at the top - and the relief of McLeish leaving does not change this fact. Let us hope this is a lesson learned.

  3. Wow some ppl are seriously trying to compare McLeish- a failed in Prem crap version of Gary Megson with Mourinho ???

    Seriously??

    :crylaugh::crylaugh::crylaugh:

    err no.

I compared the style of football to that of Mourinho not the quality of the manager.

Obviously they are poles apart. But the brand of 'anti-football' is in my opinion similar.

    ok?

    Lol @ similar.

  4. He's made one very poor choice in his career, and that was to go to work for bosses who were always going to leave him hamstrung. It took him a worryingly long time to accept this, but to his credit he finally made the wise decision.

Now working for a club with integrity, he is presently weighed down with two burdens; a fanbase starved of success, permeated by negativity, and a team soaked in the ethos of MON's skill-lite counter-play, incapable of adapting and drained of courage Just watch the injury list mount up.

This is the same problem Houllier faced, though I feel McLeish is better equipped to overcome it. Realistically though, I am reconciled to another nine months of VillaTalk mayhem before his own team can express itself.

McLeish can't guarantee future success but neither can I pinpoint anyone I would rather have in his place. The usual suspects are currently doing no better than us.

As an aside, it is disappointing how much faith so many here have in the tyranny of the majority.

If at any point in his career he had done anything to suggest that he could do what you are suggesting he may, then I'd agree with you.

He has demonstrated wherever he has been that his preferred methodology is to soak up pressure, and hope to win by nicking a goal at a set piece - hence the disproportionally high draw rate.

What you fail to see is that the best we have to look forward to is more of the same, but done more efficiently.

What angers me more than anything else, is that he is not even good at what he does best! If we wanted to pursue this dross, there were and are better options out there.

There is no need to wait 9 months to let the team express themselves. They already are expressing themsleves. In 9 months they may be more eloquent in what they are expressing, but the 'sermon' will still be the same.

  5. Asked about Makoun possibly leaving Villa, McLeish admitted: "It's possible but we wouldn't let anybody go unless somebody came in."

    JUST BE **** PATIENT.

So he's going to replace Makoun, Downing and Luke Young before 11pm Wednesday?

    Righttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

Not Downing of course! I meant Makoun. We SOLD Downing to get some money in and we probably aren't going to spend it. Just ACCEPT that - we DO NOT HAVE THE CASH. You might not like it but move on! The hope is clearly that with Gabby contributing more and adapting to play wide, Nzogbia is the replacement for Downing and Young combined - of course none of us like that, but we are CUTTING DOWN. Why can't people get that?!!!!!

What I am saying is that the Makoun loan deal is being done to get someone else in.

This is a forum, where people EXPRESS THEIR CONCERNS and VENT THEIR FRUSTRATION. Why can't people just get that?!!!!!

  6. anybody else think that the hutton signing will mean lichaj going back on loan to leeds and young used as a sub to cover rb and lb as young will be 32 by the end of july then by next season decide on lichaj and probably move young on as he will be 33. just a hunch

 What a sentence. You are one fast talker.

  7. If ain't this year, it will be the next.

Yep. Be nice to go one summer without selling one of our best players, not sure it will ever happen though.

We're simply a stepping stone for players to push onto the Champions League as we cant afford to get there ourselves.

Cant say i really blame players for being ambitious, as a fan I just want to see some loyalty, but I guess the reality is there isnt any.

Loyalty to what? If he hadn't performed, we'd be screaming for his head. Look at Beye.

How much 'loyalty' did WE show Sidwell, Davies, Carew etc? If you play shit, you get dumped. And I would not expect it any other way. You could argue that Beye is being VERY loyal to Aston Villa FC, you don't see anyone comment about what a pro he is! I mean, he hasn't argued about his contract at all!!

Football clubs, and fans, are shockingly hypocritical when they speak about loyalty.

Truth of the matter is that we should not expect loyalty. We can expect people to be honourable (i.e. we pay you to do a job, you do it to the best of your ability at all times) - but loyalty is completey the wrong term.

So long as he doesn't refuse to honour his contract, continues to try his hardest for us, doesn't suck scouse cock in public, and we get suitable compensation for any early termination of his contract with us, I couldn't care less if his loyalties lay with Colonel Gadaffi.

  8. What's all this nonsense about he's only scored so many goals because he's remained fit??

Surely a players ability to remain fit is just as important to his ability to score goals?

I mean, I'd rather have a striker that plays 38 league games and scores 19, than one who plays 10 premier league games and scores 10 but spends the rest of the time on the physios table.

  9. Step 1. £25m + Ireland for James Milner

Step 2. Play Ireland, and Ireland has a cracking season

Milner plays bit part in city midfield where they spend another £100m on players

Step 3. Ireland has a cracking season for Villa and wins PFA young player of the year.

Milner gets pissed off at how little pitch time he is getting

Step 4. End of season £25m + Milner for Ireland to City.

Net result: Villa have £50m and still have Milner.

    Now THAT's a plan.
