Interesting as from what I’ve read Purslow was always the one driving the secrecy on transfers, might just be coincidence but you never know…

I can see the point he is trying to make, it’s more about the sheer power of the PL now that with the exception of Barca, Real Madrid and possibly Atletico, we are able to go and take pretty much what we want from those leagues.

I just don’t get the nastiness in the responses tbh, from people who are more than old enough to know better as well.

I’m sad for Ash, but if Unai didn’t want anything to distract from the last game then who are we to argue. I’m glad he has had the chance to come back and ‘redeem’ himself.

I just Sense UE and Monchie thinks, they can get what they want ( Training Ground)from modest...ish signings, without paying inflated prices.

I’m not miffed about the idea of us not spending £50m per player per se, but I would be a little bit miffed about the club and people connected to the club putting out noise about wanting CL qualification when they are not prepared to spend the money that it would take to do so.

You have to remember when it comes to Unai signing players for us - don’t judge them on what they have done at other clubs, for example I’ve seen a few saying that Harvey Barnes doesn’t do enough off the ball, assuming that we are indeed interested, perhaps Unai has seen enough that he can work with him to improve that?

Didn’t Gnonto ease Ash off of him and set up Leeds goal in our 2-1 win? I’ll have to go back and check, but making out that Young pocketed him all game is nonsense imo. That was a good back and forth between them as I remember it. On topic, for anything £20m-£25m I’d be all over it, Unai would take his game to another level.

You may well be correct, the point I was trying to make is that Monchi hasn’t made his name off of buying players from bottom half clubs for £50m, so I’d be surprised if he did that here.

Dzeko starting CL final instead of him was a fairly damning indictment of Lukaku’s ability/quality…

I don’t think we can doubt Lukaku’s hunger, that’s never in doubt…

He's a very good footballer who isn't suited to the PL IMO. Fortunately we have manager who can work round that.

Also, it is probably the idea of him in the PL concerning me more than the reality will. Many sides don't 'knock it up to a big man' any more. It could catch him out, but he may deal with it much better than I think. If Lisandro Martinez can deal with it, I think Torres should be able to figure it out.

Anyone from Villarreal, Emery knows so so well. That's what I'm hanging on to. He is putting his name to this saying this is the man we need, he will massively improve us.

Bit like Gerrard with Coutinho I suppose. Emery is 500x the manager of Gerrard so I'm looking forward to seeing what we do.

Maybe I’m just ridiculously optimistic, but I feel this is one of those deals that clubs will absolutely kick themselves for letting us get him. 
I would hope he’s too clever for the sort of players that would give him a hard time like you mention.

I'd rather get a surer bet for less, even if it means the ceiling probably isn't as high. David Hancko or Piero Hincapie for example. It's hard enough to get attacking players, it's much harder for them if they're coming from outside the PL. Paying top dollar for a defender that isn't really suited to the PL is too big a risk to me.

All trust in Unai. No question he's a good player.

It’s all in the last sentence for me mate, if Unai wants him then then that’s good enough for me.

I just have a very good feeling that he will be a success here, he adds a different profile to our selection of cb’s.

I think we have to remember that what we as supporters think we need and what Unai thinks we need squad-wise are 2 very different things.

If Emery wants him, it’s fine by me.
