Keepers rarely line up centrally on free kicks. It’s why you have a wall.

You have to trust that the wall will protect that side of the goal and you guard the other side of the goal.

A more central position probably would have given him a better chance of saving it, but then the other side of his goal is completely exposed. At this level a player could just drill the ball into the top corner. He also runs the risk of being completely unsighted because he’d be stood behind his own wall.

You have to accept that if someone puts it in the postage stamp then they’re going to score. It’s a percentage game

I think the issue is where I am probably judging how I would’ve looked to save it if that was me in a game at the level that I play at.

With the greatest of respect to the players I play against, I don’t think they’re quite on that same level as what Emi is facing on a regular basis. 😂

Out of interest what is your potential issue with it?

I just felt that a more central position might have given Dibu that extra yard to maybe make the save as he got fingertips to it anyway. It’s hard to be too critical of him as I’d say his positioning is definitely one of his strong points.

As a goalkeeper for 30 years and a qualified goalkeeping coach, I can tell you it’s absolutely textbook

I will bow to your superior knowledge in this field, I also play in goal but not as experienced as yourself.

We had a lot of forward momentum as a club from Unai's very first day.

I genuinely believe small things can be significant and the more I reflect the more I feel Heck's interventions have been unnecessarily distracting and we just haven't been the same since he messed with the badge and the stadium and talked Billy big shot about Champions League and rejecting bids for our players.

Could he not have just kept in the background and let us ad a club focus on the amazing season we were having? And made his announcements at the end of the season?

Rumour has it that it was Heck’s idea for the Nazi’s to invade Poland in 1939…

  5. Hopefully we are now entering a hot streak. He does such a job up top, I think this is where some of Duran’s frustration arises from because Ollie sets such high standards in so many metrics, he’s hard to dislodge from our side even if he hasn’t scored in a few matches.

Just got sent this.  Don’t know who made it, whether it’s real or created based on the trademarked version but looks cack!

I can’t lie, it’s growing on me. 😂 I didn’t like that the Lerner badge said AVFC rather than Aston Villa, which is fixed. I guess there will never be a badge that we all love.

I’m sure we’ll “be back” or “on it” again really soon… got to resist the negativity or pessimism… we know how Unai works his ass off and how studious he is… it’s up to the players to meet his demands…

Confident in saying that we will pick up or hit form and go on another impressive run… see no reason not to believe that or feel deflated or defeated…

Unai has overcome every bit of adversity, every challenge and obstacle so far… when none of our previous managers would have had it in them to be frank… a few injuries and they would’ve been crying and we would have wilted badly…

And if we are really in a slump/blip… we’ve still picked up points and not gone on the kind of depressing run we’ve been used to in the not to distant past… we’re made of stronger stuff these days… this is not the old Villa… we’re still in a great position in the league.

It’s a long season, full of ups and downs… no one ever really cruises it… can’t be amazing in every game…

I do think Unai has kind of “over achieved” with the players he has… our squad is not as strong or deep as those of the clubs around us… (especially with the rotten and severe injuries we’ve had) but that doesn’t mean we won’t continue in the same vein… I think we’ll still see impressive performances and get brilliant results…

plenty of games and so much to play for… Unai‘s going to do his best to make the most of it… that’s good enough for me…

While I think I agree with most of what you say, I have one question… is 23 ellipses in one post a personal best?

Yeah I know you’re right, it’s just frustrating that’s it so poor.  Obviously I’ll have to live with whatever they decide and I’ll get over it…eventually 😉

Would this new badge have been better received by you if we had transitioned straight from the Lerner badge to this one?

I’m literally happy with everything else at the Villa apart from this friggin farce!

But mate, it’s just a badge. Perhaps it’s different because I have no particular dislike for it, or because I have other personal stuff going on, but I just don’t see the point of getting angry about it. It’s not going to change my feelings for the club, and I’m not going to stop watching on tv or going to games, so I just let it go. Try and be positive Nick, they might change it to one you like in 4 years time when they change it again?

  10. In a bit of a slump goalscoring-wise, but he’s feeding off scraps. If he’s missing lots of chances then I’d be worried, but he’s barely getting a sniff most games.

Its not the traditional Villa way. Am sure Salifou just turned up one day with boots

I believe that MON ‘scouted’ him as a pundit for BBC at the 2006 World Cup while representing Togo.

I’m so glad that we’re a proper football club these days!

So the chance I’m talking about went way wide and it wasn’t in any of the highlights packages 😂 but it was just after Duran and youri had come on, if you go to the match thread from 15:29-15:30pm a few people are talking about the missed chance….the one at the end of the game you mentioned with the cash cross, that was a great attempt and so unlucky, could have left with the 3 points on another day had he been slightly more fortunate with the chance

I think it was within a minute or two of him coming on, prime Marlon Harewood…

    That misses the point enitirely.

It's about squad depth and those 3 would all be fantastic players to have in a squad fighting for a CL place. Especially when they have no European football distractions like we and others around them do.

Our squad depth, with the likes of Olsen, Duran, Zaniolo, Ramsey etc is what will cost us 4th in my opinion.

Still fancy us for 5th but I'd love us to have signed any of those 3 players as they are all better than what we have on our bench.

Ramsey? 😂 If you’re genuinely telling me that you’d take Gallagher over Ramsey then I don’t even know what to tell you.

Bit of a shame it's us v Spurs for 4th and it looks like they're bringing in Werner, Gallagher and Dragusin.

    Three first teamers!

It'll be such an achievement if we hold them off.

They’re all decent enough squad signings, but none of those 3 get into Spurs strongest XI imo.

With them still to come to VP I’m still confident that we can finish ahead of them this season.

You're the one assuming you're right: "other people rightly do care".

I care about us having a lion insignia: check.

Being represented by our great name Aston Villa: check.

Playing in claret and blue: check.

Being successful on the pitch and financially viable off it: check.

The rest is nice to have but a bonus, and quite often a distraction, as your posts are proving.

A simple like does not justify how I feel about this post.

To be fair to Newcastle they've been in the CL twice and we've never been in since the chance in format.

This, and they sell a lot of shirts. Plus you have to remember their trajectory at the time of negotiations and the wealth that they have behind them. While we are on a similar level currently, I believe their ceiling is probably higher than ours longer term.
