Even when we were shit under Gerrard, I still really liked the players we had. You could just see they were being ham-tied by a useless manager who had walked into the job, giving it the big I am and managed to fall out with half of them.

It got to the point where I was actually thinking some of them were on the level we were with wanting Gerrard out, especially when Mings scored that OG v Fulham, almost like he knew that would do it.

Like it's been said, I don't see any egos in this squad. I'm seeing a group of players who are now being allowed to work in a system that suits them, have clear instructions and are clearly enjoying every minute of playing for what is, a massive club, being guided by a world class manager.

While I don’t think it was in any way deliberate, if a player EVER scored an own goal on purpose then I would never want that player to wear our shirt again. Regardless of how popular or unpopular the current manager is/was, that would be unforgivable in my eyes.

OK, here it goes: Scott McTominay.

Now hang on. I know. I know. But think about it a bit.

Not that I’m saying that I want him, but he is the sort of player that Unai Emery works with and makes them one of the best players in that position in their respective league. I’d guarantee that if we signed him, within 12 months United fans would be looking on asking where was this player when he played for them?

  3. I would challenge that the like-ability comes hand in hand with winning football matches, we all love the 18/19 promotion team for example. Would we find this team as likeable if they were sat bottom of the table?

That said, this current team are working so hard and deserve all the plaudits and love that they are currently getting. It’s just a great time to be an Aston Villa fan right now.

  4. Fair play, John McGinn is playing at his absolute peak currently, looks fit as a butchers dog and well worth his place in our midfield imo.

If he can keep up this current form, he could save us some money in the summer too, 6 months ago he looked like his Villa career was coming to an end but I would not replace this version of SJM at all.

Maybe posted before but I’m not at all comfortable with the BBC purely speculating on hampton’s personal issues being attitude related.

I don’t think it’s wide of the mark tbf. She was dropped by us too, but fair play to her for letting the football do the talking and regaining her place for club and country.

    Mcginn. Welp that was easy.

I mean if Ramsey didn't play well next game I'd switch Mcginn in tbh.

Bouba still best player we probably have.

I don’t think there is any way that McGinn is the one getting the drop.

Agree with most of the above but I’m not expecting big star names anyway.  I’m expecting players that fit Emery’s system and not glamour names.  I’m also expecting players that were once thought good but haven’t quite worked out at their current clubs, doesn’t Emery have a history with that kind of player.  Also players we haven’t thought about but when we research them that they make sense like Moreno has.

Yes, Emery is good with ‘broken toys’. Just another reason why he is a great manager for a club like us.

Not watched much of him.  Anybody watched him a lot (not just an handful of games) and know if he’s worth it? Is he consistent? Can he step up to PL and be good for us?

I can’t say I’ve watched him several times or anything like that, but from what I have watched of him he is technically sound, he dribbles well, he can play either side, he takes penalties, has an eye for goal and would suit Unai Emery’s system very well.

I can see him having the pick of clubs come the summer, I’d be massively surprised if we were able to get his signature.

For me, just getting next years home shirt out as early as possible please ready for the summer.  New badge, new sponsor, new shirt ready for the summer.

I agree Nick, especially with the new badge being on there. There’s no change in manufacturer, if necessary I’d love to see us play in the new shirt on the last day against Brighton, even if that has Cazoo on it to ensure we don’t break any contractual agreement.

Great stuff though OBE, we’re going in the right direction 👍🏼

  10. There will be a moment in time in the relatively near future, it might be August, it might be November or December, but this is all going to click for us and we will consistently look like we could play this way in our sleep. It’s repetition, we will learn to play these patterns until we can do it with our eyes closed. I must admit it’s a bit boring to watch at times because it is slow - we are almost walking through it at times, but it will quicken and we will become comfortable doing it.

Don't fall for his convincing, happy-go-lucky, optimistic patter folks. He's gaslighting us into hoping for something other than crushing pain and disappointment.

Luckily for fans like myself that have followed the club for over 30 years, we are in no doubt that the only way is crushing pain and disappointment 👍🏼

    Howe :crylaugh:

I do rate Howe as a coach, but to come out with an article saying that he is a superior coach to somebody with the pedigree of Unai Emery, all off the back of a good 14 month spell in the league (with ultimately NOTHING to show for it) just ruins the credibility of the piece imo.

He's had good performances and sporadic little runs of decent form since he's been here man, come on.

    People grossly exaggerate this.

It was a bit tongue in cheek JV 😉

    Random info.

Not sure if anyone knows about what's happened with Usain Bolt in Jamaica.

Basically, a " trusted " Investment broker stole/ " lost " 12 million dollars of his life earnings money, and he's looked distressed ever since.

Story has been out for i'd say the last month or more.

Anyway, I learnt yesterday that apparently a large chunk of Leons money was also wrapped up in that investment firm.

Has this affected him mentally/on the pitch as well? Don't know.

Yeah but how long ago did he potentially lose all this money? 18 months ago? 😂
