  1. It's a joke how when someone mentions a rumour about us possibly getting Barton and Yakubu the first thing they pick on Yakubu!!, not the thug who's being questioned by the police right now for attacking his team mate!! , but i called out Yakubu as a possible target ages ago and the same incompetent views were aired, "He's lazy", but again i ask what is a striker payed to do?, score over 15 goals a season like Yakubu has done for the last three or four years or work hard and only score 8 goals a season while we continue to let game after game that we dominate slip out of our hands?. Yakubu for me would be a real gem for us, he's big and strong so if Carew is missing we could cope, he's also quick too so he could work well with big John like he does with Viduka, he's a brilliant finisher who scores goals season after season against the big boys, and he's still young enough to improve, i don't see how anyone could complain if we managed to get the Yak.
  2. I wouldn't go that far as to say he's "out of our reach", he's not the next Ronaldinho or Kaka, if we met Ajax's valution (which no-one has thus far) then i'm pretty sure we can afford the wages and then it's all up to him, he's not staying in the dutch league so we might have a chance, as has been proved with the other dutch "wonder kid" Van der Vert going to of all teams Hamburg
  3. Some people just can't help but be pessimistic, it's in their DNA imo.
  4. The rumours section on the official site has missed out our links with Reo-coker, Defoe, Bent and Aruna Kone, bloody typical mess up from them,!!
  5. I disagree big style, Appiah is a class act and very competative, much like Gattuso, just because he races around the pitch doesn't make him a "headless chicken", the likes of Juventus don't invest in such players, imo he is a world class player and he was one of the stars for Ghana at the world cup, it was a two way thing between Essien and Appiah for me, they both dominated games, Appiah is simply an all round class player who can create and score a cracker at one end, and then save us at the back, i'd compare him to a Boateng type player who is also good going forward and i hope Mon moves heaven and earth to get him as he'd be worth every penny, a player who can easliy beat the likes of Gerrard, Lampard and Fabreges in a midfield battle. I would preserve praise like this really, on another side he really looks like the player who can come to the Premiership and flop totally. You never know with these players. Also, it's not like every club in the G14 is looking for him so saying he could easily beat the likes of Gerrard and Lampard is a bit off don't you think? Easily better than McCann though, so it would be a step up. Well that's your opinion, mine comes from seeing him as a youngster at Udinese right up until now, and for me there's no question that he'd light up the premiership, the difference between him and Essien is not that big imo.

  7. Meant to be going to Barca. And the fact he's 26 and only now becoming known is a bit..... odd. Luka Toni never started being "known" until about 2 years ago, and Drogba wasn't a big name for a while, sometimes that happens, at the end of the day the man is class and i'd love to see Afonso at villa, he's got those brazilian skills along with fantastic finishing ability, it's not just the dutch league he scored in he also done it in europe too.
  8. For those who haven't seen the Portugal left back we're apparently getting he scores the 3rd goal with a free kick in this vid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQG4xJ_rDrc
  9. http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=39947 It's good to see the young man talk about us like that, i hope he comes in and puts pressure on Fred, and with him apparently being a free kick expert we could be getting a star for the future!!.
  10. A good right back that Mon might wanna consider is the boy Bernard Mendy at PSG, he's got premiership experiance with the good spell he had at Bolton a few years ago and he's gone from strength to strength back in france, he's an international now also, the good thing is he's only 25 and likes to attack as well as being a decent defender!!, he's a younger Lauren imo.
  11. I don't agree with the ratings to be honest, i don't know how Gabby can be rated the same as Berger who's only played about six games for us!!, neither do i think Barry deserves such a high scoring as like the rest of his team mates he was nowhere to be seen in the winter period. but decent effort anyway.
  12. He isn't good enough. Made his name in one decent season at Pompey and now is a rich nobody ...and he seems to be a arrogant little prat. First Nzogbia is an "arrogant little prick", and now Yakubu is apparently a "arrogant little prat", how the feck do you know exactly? , i'd personally rather focus on what they do on the pitch instead of sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong. As for Defoe, these rumours are getting very strong now, i'd be surprised if we didn't sign him tbh!!, and i'd also be surprised if Petrov got dropped from central midfield, if we biy quality midfielder i think Barry will move back to the left. Barry is starting to look the real deal in centre midfield and I would be sorry to see him move back again to the left. Surely the best option is to sign a top class pacy left winger to match Young on the right. Barry has done well there yes, but for me Petrov has been just as good if not better at dictating the play, and Berger too, Barry is decent but for me we can get better players in the middle of the park, someone like Fernandes, Nasri or Toure, all of which i'd say are more creative than Barry, there's not a lot of good young left wingers around who are not at the big clubs already too!!, so it would be easier to switch Barry back to the left and get a better central midfielder.

  14. Having seen 6 of his last 7 games live i agree totally with this. A real star in the making. And I don't disagree at all. My thoughts about him is to learn his trade this season and really push for it the next season. Maybe not the right way to go, but those were my thoughts. I'd really come to like him too and he's shown more and more of being a new Sid for us. Guess I'm alone in thinking that, but still. I can see where you are coming from Pelle and if Craig was any other twenty year old I would totally agree with you. I have been fortunate to watch Gardner through his reserve career and I can tell you that he has the maturity of a thirty year old in a twenty year old body. I think it was "out by easter" who coined the nickname "Crash Gardner" after one particular display which contained blood and guts tackling and attacking crunching headers at set pieces which I have only seen from the likes of Micah Richards. I was at that game and I can tell you that opposition players were obviously avoiding him before we had reached half time! Lampard and Gerrard will be looking over the shoulders of their England shirts in a couple of years time. The kid is decent no doubt but he's not gonna be anywhere near the likes of Lampard or Gerrard imo, he's had a few decent games and that's good, but remember Davis was our player of the season last year and look at him now?, there's no way Gardner has had a better season than he did last year, i mean even Ozzy has had some very good games for us too!!, if we are thinking of making the top four then for me Gardner would have to be a squad player!!, we need absolute top class in the middle of the park like Fernandes, Nasri, Makoun or Toure, that's the only way we're gonna compete, if Gardner's good enough he'll embrace the challenge of competing with those kind of players.
  15. And you claim i'm the "wind up"? Err well you are Sid, there is difference between joking around and winding up. Joking around?, no-one's laughing though Jez
  16. It's not over till it's over!!, your best mate Milner was at bodymore heath last summer and still never signed!!, to your despair of course!! , and it's not gone anywhere near that far yet, besides i'm more into the idea of Nasri or Fernandes now anyway!!.
  17. I believe he will playing for chelsea reserves and covering for essien when the African cup of nations is on and when Chelsea will lose several vial players for a month He won't be getting in the starting line up with Mikel, Essien, Ballack and Lampard about no doubt, the African cup is gonna hit a few big sides hard and that can only help us, even Bolton is gonna feel the stress!!
  18. For me the left wing position should be filled by Barry or Maloney because imo we need to get a top class central midfielder, someone with more creativity than Barry offers, like Fernandes for example, or the kid Nasri, but whatever happens i think we're gonna enjoy this summer, many of the pundits today was backing us to be a serious force next season, and i agree.
  19. On talksport the reporter at Ewood park has said Bennie Mccarthy has put in a transfer request, would Mon be interested?.
  20. If people don't give me a reason to roll my eye's then it won't be done!! Anyway regarding Defoe, he's an out and out goal poacher and i for one would be delighted if we sign him, his record doesn't lie and i think he could reach the 20 goal mark with us no problem. Here's some of Jermain's goals this season http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTc7BPt4Vow
  21. Jesus wept, you need to take off your claret and blue tinted glasses do you honestly think at this moment in time we can beat Spurs for players? even though they have a much much stronger team and are in europe? If it wasn't for them getting to the quarter final of the UEFA cup they wopuld have probably broke the top 4 this season i can't believe i have to argue this, maybe in a year or two we will be at their level, but at this moment we are far off from them. i heard that they wasn't willing to pay the transfer fee as they didn't believe it was value for money, which i agree with, or Boothroyd has had a whisper in his ear to come here instead, which is fair enough but without that whisper in his ear i'd be very suprised to see him in birmingham. But back to the original point, Darren Bent, i think any neutral can tell you where he would go if he had a straight choice between a team in europe with a great chance of winning the UEFA cup in contrast to a team who's solely competing in the premiership. I couldn't give 2 shit's if you think i support Spurs, the winding up games you like to play doesn't bother me I'm just able to realise that the whole world doesn't revolve around Aston Villa, and other teams do actually progress and become very good teams as well. We have a good basis to build a great club, but its about slow progression, we haven't even got into the UEFA cup yet and had the league struggles which accompany it No, i'll keep my claret and blue glasses on thanks, i wouldn't bet you've ever worn any though!! , i'll digress your last piece of rhetoric regarding Spurs, as it's obvious you simply don't understand mine or Mazrim's point of view, and trying to educate you is getting boring now.
  22. wouldn't suprise me at all tbh i've been thinking this would happen for a week or so don't let the deluded one's hear you say this though, they still think we can beat Spurs to Bent :? At least the "deluded one's" don't HOPE Spurs beat us in getting Bent!!, like certain members here do!! Never mind though, i'm sure Spurs will beat us again like they did with Ashley Young. no one hopes that what so ever, its called being a realist, which i wouldn't expect you to know much about yeh you've got a point with Young, oh no actually you haven't they didn't want to pay the 9.5 million as it wasn't value for money, so they was never in the running to sign him anyway. It was out of us and West Ham, they offered 7 million plus Davenport, but he went to West Ham instead, as he didn't want to join Watford. Oh and to the people moaning about Defoe, i don't particularly want him but i think he will come, in a perfect world for me we would be signing Robbie Keane but my money is on either Bellamy or Defoe being our number 9 next season. and out of the two i'd prefer Defoe You're worryingly very defensive about Spurs here!! , and you're not making sense, they wanted Young and was even said to be ready to "hijack" our deal, if they couldn't afford to pay the going rate then WE BEAT THEM, it's as simple as that, although no doubt you'll try and dress it up another way to suit your feeble argument, As i said some members here love Spurs. EDIT: And as us mods have said - on topic please, discuss peoples' alleged love for Spurs elsewhere - 306
