Was checking some of their fan accounts on Twitter earlier (yes, WTF do they know..), they seem to think RBL can squeeze Bremen later in the window to bring the price down. If he’s not ITSOTPDBH by Friday then they may well be right.

I’m in a minority of one on this, but with some of the links we’ve had I could see us set up In a 4-2-3-1 for winnable games. The argument against is the 2 being too weak with Luiz (who I rate) and SJM. If you got Phillips (which we won’t) and put him next to Luiz it would work, imo. Ditto with Idrissa Gueye (also not likely) or Santamaria. Hopefully Leeds get relegated and we grab Phillips when Man Citeh raid us for Douglas next summer - which the barstewards will if he carries on performing like this. Anyway, as you were.

We’re in the market for another central midfielder, not to replace Luiz but to play in the midfield three with him & SJM. I’d love Phillips to be the third player, that's all I’m saying, and only because someone said they wouldn’t take any player from Leeds for our first XI.

Phillips would be my first choice as a new DCM, not that we’d get him now they’re up.

A bit blunt maybe, but basically where I am on this too. Also, if we paid Tammy £150K pw then Jack gets the same deal. Can’t see him accepting someone being paid more than him at his club. I love the idea of Tammy but the reality is trickier imo, unless money is somehow no object.

If we end up with Watkins and two of Rashica or Benrahma and Thauvin or Buendia, I’ll paint the walls with my own spunk.

Fair enough. With Watkins able to play across a front three, same goal tally in the championship as Tammy hit with us, plus Edouard, who I think could be a machine with good service, it just seems like better risk management. Would love Tammy back, mind.

Even at the maximum rumoured fees, we could sign Edouard & Watkins for what Tammy would cost, and his wage demands would probably pay them both too. I’d prefer the two over the one.

Nothing, I don’t watch French football, but his stats look pretty good to me. The only reason I mentioned him was his rumoured availability, price and pedigree versus the fees being chucked around for relatively unproven options in the UK market.

Indeed. If you step back and look at the quality and thoroughness of what the club has done with structural recruitment (academy, coaching staff, academy recruits) off the field, it seems beyond unlikely they don’t have a plan for serious improvement of the senior team. Not saying “we’re Aston Villa, we buy who we want”, but I do think we’re shopping in Waitrose this window, not Aldi. Harrods will have to wait for a few seasons. For me Rashica is a ‘Waitrose Best’ signing, let’s see.

Rashica may sign for Aston Villa. He may sign for another club or he may stay at Bremen. The Mods will decide when that speculation ends, not miserablists trying to dictate what other posters can talk about. I think, for no reason whatsoever, that we’ll ‘know’ beyond reasonable doubt he’s coming to us by... Tuesday. Come at me.

Thing is, if he’s so against another relegation battle it makes no sense to stay at Bremen. No Europe, no raising his profile any further. I don’t buy it.

Any thoughts on Mario Götze as a quality CM for the squad? World Cup winner, just turned 28 and a goal or assist every other game for 230 games in the Bundesliga. 12 goals and 17 assists in 60+ CL games too. Not sure why he left Dortmund but on a free it seems a decent option - unless Bundesliga watchers know different?
