I'm not surprised we caved in as easily as we did when you look at who was leading the negotiations.

When was the last time we made a profit on a player or came close to breaking even other than when we sold Grealish?

Carney maybe, but that was to Chelsea who are signing everyone at the minute for ridiculous fees.

And on the other hand seems like we always pay top dollar or get totally fleeced for any incomings.

  2. We are basically going to finish mid-table.  If he isn't in UE's longterm plan and we can get good money for him, would not be opposed to selling him and finding someone who suits our system better

No one has written anyone off, it just seems like a shot in dark from us based on the evidence we have.

What do you see in him that makes you think he is worth the gamble, his age , his pace, his heading ability all look good but the sample size is so small it seems like a long odds gamble. His international career , even at youth level is unremarkable.

Fair enough taking a punt but this seems like the longest odds one we have ever taken. Unless i have missed something?

I keep an eye on MLS and had not really heard of him. It's not like he is a Alfonso Davies or Miguel Almiron who were established young stars in the league. Thus the 14M seems quite high for an unproven product. If we paid a few million more, probably could have gotten a solid player ready to contribute to the squad right away.

If the club is smart, they'll pay JPA to come over, show him around, and make him feel at home.

Or we could just sign JPA’s son who is another top Colombian U20 talent.

Don't know much about him but he seems the sort of signing that Brighton would make and then our fans would complain that we aren't doing the same.

If Unai wants him, thats good enough for me.

At the same time feel Brighton would have paid around £5M for him not £14M.

If it works out - then happy days, but if it turn out to be like Wesley or Traore - same fans celebrating the signing will be ripping the club for financial mismanagement.

  6. Really have to question what Lange is doing.  We have not discovered any hidden gems.  Wasted money on players that were never going to be first team regulars. Academy results have also been atrocious.

Can we realise lads that wingers are inherently inconsistent. If Bailey could consistently beat his man and bang in curlers every single week we'd be talking about a 100 million pound player. We got spoiled by grealish so consistently performing excellently but it is very rare for wingers to do that.

Inconsistent in terms of scoring or attacking is understandable.  Sloppy mistakes in dangerous situations are not.

  8. Generally not a Bailey critic, but tonight against Leeds he reminded of Traore. Flashes of brilliance but lots of mistakes that could have really cost us. He needs to be reined in.

pretty sure that apart from geezer, the band doesn't give a monkeys about villa. read tony and ozzy's books and neither mention any sort of love for football, let alone villa

I met the band in Boston, USA many years back. Geezer is really the only fan.  Having said that,  if Villa created a Black Sabbath inspired 3rd kit or something to the likes (believe West Ham did some collab with Iron Maiden), I could see the band getting involved as it’s all about getting attention these days.  Sharon knows this well.

Fulham are miles better than us. Sad to say but they have a far superior level of consistency and one of the most reliable strikers in the league.

Player for player they are not. That is what makes me optimistic. We just need to hit our stride.

Can only think he has a disciplinary issue, or maybe not a hard trainer. He was MotM today as far as I'm concerned, looked the only one remotely interested. He plays next game surely.

I have this theory that maybe he does not score well on some of them health/data monitors that teams use these days, thus coaches think he is not fit or training hard when it's really a case of the monitors not being the right way to assess him.  Kind of like kids who might do poorly on an IQ test but are bright and do well in school.

Clever player, finds space and plays some great balls forward.

Played well that half, but looked a step slow to me. Could just be a lack of match fitness.
