I'd rather go with what we have instead of overpaying but obviously would prefer 1 or 2 signings. We'll get one I'm about 90% confident of. I just loathe the kind of money blown on the likes of Digne and Coutinho  it just hampers us in the long run.

Similarly, I have PTSD related to the 18M+ we paid for Traore when we could have gotten him for much, much cheaper. Lyon were desperate to move him. Seems everyone but Villa knew it. Part of the reason I am skeptical about Lange and shudder when our fans think 10M for Dembele  or 50M for Luiz Henrique is a good deal. It's monopoly money to some, I guess.

With these raw youngsters we keep being linked to, it’s like we’re trying to do a Brighton (if any truth in the links) but the numbers quoted are what should be paid for far more proven players. Is £24 mil really what should be paid for potential these days?

It feels as though the likes of Brighton and Brentford pay a lot less for potential.

Luiz Henrique sounds good, Brazilian, young and athletic but he is not that good for the fees being touted like £50m 🤣that’s laughable… £24million  max!

Was listening to a podcast where a very well informed Betis fan was saying he is very raw and currently at best is at Baileys level.  Even 24M seems a bit much for that type of profile.

Gregg Evans has proven himself to know nothing about our transfer dealings in every previous transfer window, I've no reason to believe that has changed.

He knows nothing, but his colleagues at The Athletic do have good contacts and info. He probably gets the rumors from them.

  5. I presume if he joins us it will be on a multi year deal.  Want to avoid a situation where we are carrying deadwood down the road just to cover a short-term gap.  If we sign him, hope it’s because Emery sees him as a longterm solution.

Traore did largely fine in 20/21. 6-7 goals and similar number of assists. If we get that from Dembele for next four months it will be one of the signings of this window.

Ultimately you want to bring in players that are consistent and dependable. Traore did not make the grade. For all his moments of magic, there were lots of liabilities with his play.

I mean, its not advanced analytics here. The guy scored 21 goals in ligue 1 last season, the joint third highest in the league and is now 6 months off his contract expiring. Yeah he has been far from the best this season but its clear why clubs would be interested in him.

Similar arguments were made for Traore - that he was good in previous seasons.  Current form is really important - especially for attackers.

  8. Would be disappointed with this.  Cant get a game at struggling Lyon and flopped on loan at Atletico Madrid.  Why would he be successful here? If we pay any fee for a player that is out of contract this summer and hardly plays, I’ll seriously question our financial dealings.

I'm not surprised we caved in as easily as we did when you look at who was leading the negotiations.

When was the last time we made a profit on a player or came close to breaking even other than when we sold Grealish?

Carney maybe, but that was to Chelsea who are signing everyone at the minute for ridiculous fees.

And on the other hand seems like we always pay top dollar or get totally fleeced for any incomings.

  10. We are basically going to finish mid-table.  If he isn't in UE's longterm plan and we can get good money for him, would not be opposed to selling him and finding someone who suits our system better
