I really don’t think Emery would have taken the job at Villa to manage a sell to buy policy or little backing by the owners for the players he wants.

Gerrard wasn’t allowed to spend too much for a reason so I’m in no doubt Emery will be given the funds to buy whoever he wants and in the summer again.

I’d expect maybe one, if not two more effective midfielders to be signed plus a forward. FB positions may also be looked at with several players sold or pushed out on loan with a view to buy.

Not sell to buy, but sometimes refreshing or resetting the squad can have merit.  For example, would be open to selling Ings and bringing in a striker who can press a bit more.

  2. I'd like to think there are a few Almiron and Joelinton types in our squad. Players who just need some good coaching and tactics that suit their style.  If the likes of Watkins, Bailey, Ings, Digne, Coutinho, Cash, Luiz and Buendia are not good enough, we've pissed away a ton of money.

  3. If he bags most of the chances that come to him, he then is basically a world class striker. Think people need some perspective and check the scoring charts to see how few 20 season a year strikers actually exist these days.  Recall similar discussions about Carew and Angel previously.

Not much talk of West Ham being in trouble but they've been in poor form for a year now, one of the few teams to take less points than us during Steven Gerrard's ill-fated tenure. Play Arsenal next, if they lose that and other fixtures go against them they could drop into the bottom three.

That's why I don't like it when people talk about "kicking on next season"...sometimes it just does not click as has been the case for West Ham and Leicester.  You claw and scratch for every league position you can get now.
