  1. Is that a statement on the short performance he did?
  2. Thanks for a good rambling. If we look at the wages in the year 08/09, I think it was just over 70 mill. What has happened since (numbers are speculations)? Changes from juni 2009 Players out Martin Laursen 40000 Gareth Barry 40000 Stuart Taylor 15000 Zat Knight 25000 Craig Gardner 7500 Must use half salary, as he moved in january Sum savings 127 500 pr. week Players in Emilie Heskey 30000 Must use half salary, as we in the last season paid him for the whole season Downing 40000 Delph 25000 Beye 40000 Warnock 40000 Collins 30000 Dunne 50000 Sum wages new players (and Heskey cost a whole season compared with half season in 08/09 books: 255 000 Increased salaries Petrov 10000 Total increased wages 137 500pr week 52 7 150 000 If no inflation in other staff players, we would have had around 77-78 mill in wages last season. So far this summer, we have cut that one with around 60-70 000 a week (Bouma, Harewood, Marshall).
  3. Links or quotes? Anyway, I think Carew may be playing for a contract. I seem to remember his agent whose first name was Per I think, saying how this summer is very important for john, he either extends his contract which runs out next summer or is sold to another club. MON must have told him and his agent to impress him then he can get a renewed contract. I can give you This link and translate what he is saying after Daily Mirror had fabricated a story about him moving to either Sampdoria or Fiorentina: "There will always be speculation around very talented players", he said and laugh loudly. He means that Daily Mirror is a paper without credibility: "If you look at the paper, it is naked women in the first 40 pages, then there is 4 sport pages. So you should take what they are writing with a pinch of salt". Three years ago, he said that he would move back to Norway in three years. Now he says: "No, I'm not gonna move home now. I really enjoy being in England and Aston Villa and I don't need to be at another place".
  4. The Yes answer will sky rocket again at the end of August, no doubt about that.
  5. I think Lerner has missed on the revenue side. When he took over the club, he saw great opportunities, buying the biggest club in Englands city no. 2. But financial crisis and some other factors (young people being fan of Sky 4 clubs) has made average gate lower than what could be expected 4 years ago. The same goes for ticket prices. It's no crisis, but I think it will take a bit more time than expected to reach revenues at 110-120 mill.
  6. Even I, a big optimist, am getting a bit stressed now
  7. OK, I'll stop now, as we are getting a bit off topic. It was just a suggestion. I understand if people don't take it seriously, as the age factor is probably important. But I'm used to not been taken seriously when suggesting players from the Norwegian league, I remember the reactions when I last summer wanted Villa to sell Reo Coker and buy Anthony Annan.
  8. So you didn't see him when Rosenborg easily beat AIK away? Did you see it when Mike Newell scored a champions league hat-trick? He did that last week? No, but the week after he did it he was back to being shit Hardly comparable, when I see Iversen playing well regularly. Iversen is a better header than Carew and has a better football brain. He is a natural backup for a Carew who will get injured this season too.

  10. So you didn't see him when Rosenborg easily beat AIK away? You can probably watch him this Wednesday. But to be honest, I would actually prefer him as back up to Carew this season and that we got rid of Heskey. Rather have Iversen than Doyle, Keane or Zamora.
  11. Haha, Bakke has been Brann's biggest liability since he came here after the Aston Villa spell. Can't believe he played in Villa.
  12. I don't think he has been scoring for fun in Champions League in quite a while. But seriously. Iversen would do great in a club like Fulham, taking Zamora's place.
  13. Not since Wolves decided he wasn't good enough six years ago. It was the injuries that made him not play regularly for Wolves and that's why they released him. He only started 11 league matches and scored 4 goals. Remember that after he got his injuries sorted and won the league for Vålerengen, Wolves tried to loan him again in the winter 2008 when he was a Rosenborg player, but he did not wanted to go to their club. This interest has been confirmed by Knut Thorbjørn Eggen, a Rosenborg director. Here is an article in VG that confirms that iversen refused to go back to Wolves
  14. That's why I have chosen a player who has played well in England for Tottenham (top scorer for them in 98/99 and 99/00 before injuries made it difficult for him) and who has played and scored a lot of goals in Champions League for Rosenborg. The best backup for Carew available. Wackiest comment of the summer award goes to....... Do you watch Iversen regularly? How many Champions League matches have you watched him play in? I would say that it's a 50/50 who should start as a lone striker for Norway between him and Carew when we play 4-5-1.

  16. He is better than Heskey, so if we can't buy a new class striker this is a decent option.
  17. I know there has been no papers speculating this, but I see that Steffen Iversen wants to move to England for family reasons. The Rosenborg forward has proven that he is capable of playing in the Premier League, and even though he is 33 years old, he is a better header than Carew and has an extraodinary good football brain. Sell Heskey, sign Iversen on a free transfer, and we will save quite a bit on salaries. His big experience in Champions League might come handy when we go out to play in Europe. Some Iversen goals
  18. Big disappointments: Friedel, Davies and Delfouneso Shit, as expected: Sidwell, Shorey Positives: Heskey, Albrighton, Carew and Downing
  19. Ref is an idiot. Giving Benfica all those soft fouls, and then don't give Reo Coker free kick. Embarrasing.
  20. Wait, I thought this was his debut? :winkold: Maybe he is on the move away from the famous team of invisibles, where Sidwell is captain...
  21. Nice goal from Carew. Has looked decent.
  22. Best of the bad bunch in the first half.
  23. Finally, Downing is doing some decent footballing.
