I lived through the Sneijder speculation and Julie B with the Japanese player locked in her basement but the Rashica thread pushed me over the top. Now it's just lack of football to watch,  endless transfer bollocks intensified by our success under Emery but lurking on other club threads it doesn't seem anywhere near this level of bollocks links

Yeah, that Rashica thread was a horrible plaice.

    ... I'll get my coat.

Pretty sure one of his best positions at Norwich was right side of midfield. I don't think he's restricted to one side or central.

Was listening to podcast and they said after the game Emery was very pleased with performance and he wanted him to occupy pockets of open space

Probably his best game for us, imo, was vs Newcastle at home. Him and McGinn playing down the right gave Newcastle's towering left back Dan Burn such a torrid time they had to replace him halfway through the 2nd half.

Didn't Dubravka concede 3 so Olsen conceded the least including Emi?

    Lies, damn lies and statistics

Neither Dubravka or Emi kicked a ball straight to a stationary (and somewhat bemused) opposition forward. So that's 1 to Olsen and 0 to the others.

Neither Dubravka or Emi had a goal attributed against them from what appears a basic error (parrying the ball back out into the goal area). So that's 2 to Olsen and 0 to the others.

I think the issue is that we have to play different when he's on the pitch as he doesn't seem to have the confidence, mentality and - arguably - the ability to play the way we want, which breeds insecurity in the rest of the team. That gets seized upon in the PL - not so much in a friendly.

  4. So Newcastle has Pope and Dubravka - both keepers that can reliably fill between the sticks and of comparable talent.

... we have Martinez and Olsen. Night and day.

    Oh the trials and tribulations!

I'll give you a quick summary of what's to come.

    'Impossible it'll never happen!'

'Why is it impossible, just because you said so!?'

'He's a greedy punk who is too full of himself! We should stay well away.'

'Can't afford him, because of FFP.'

'Of course we can afford him got 2 billionaires!'

    'He's shite!'

'He is the best player ever and Emery can make him even better!'

'But is he as good as Jordan Bowery?'

You forgot Januzaj - but otherwise a decent list

Okay, I've gone back to my diamond design and refined it a little more.

I've added the new lion, and made a few alterations to it to make it more 'rampant', and set it facing in the traditional direction. I don't mind the whole facing forward concept stuff, but to me personally, the lion facing left is just more 'Villa'.

I've also removed the star, for the reasons @NurembergVillan has mentioned frequently, and eloquently.

I've streamlined further by removing '1874', as it wasn't really needed and would have been unreadable at smaller sizes anyway.

    Anyway, on with the show...

One more, just to show that this design at least is different from the rest of the crests in the Premier League

Feel free to tell me I've got the colours wrong, you only like round badges, it doesn't say 'Aston Villa' in full, not adding a star somehow means I've degraded our entire history, it looks like a stonemasons symbol and it's crap.

I'll not be listening anyway as I really need to get some work done!

I've kept away from this thread on purpose.

Now that I'm here and catching up on a few things - just had to say I love your diamond AV logo! A real standout amongst all the other PL badges.

    Well done!

It's on twitter, but can't be bothered with the drama that goes with posting twitter links up. Who knows its validity, but sounds plausible.

No no - you have that backwards.

I don't read twitter. Ever. Too much garbage, regardless of topic.

But I do read the ones that filter through on here. Some may still be less than reliable - but it's still better than trawling through all of Twitter.

  8. I liked Wes.

Deffo needed time, but there was something in there.

But it didn't happen, we got Ollie Watkins and - despite him getting pelters on here by some - OW is clearly the better of the 2.

Good luck to Wes wherever he ends up - but it ain't here.

This is a good question. I’m deleted by this signing but let’s wait until we see how he gets on before calling it the transfer of the summer.  He might need time to settle.

Im very optimistic about him though.

If Bairstow didn't have that happen to him, England would have won.

    Aussie's being Aussie's.

They have to do it in cricket because they're **** shit at football.

Rugby's not on my radar, but I assume they cheat at that too as hardly anyone else plays it. 😇

Ah yes. Let's conveniently dismiss anything else that might have contributed to the result.....

... you know, like Stokes being caught out before hitting 50 and it not being given.

And, IIRC, we've played you twice in football (at least, in recent memory - going back 20 years). It stands at 1 a piece 😉

This is going to be the defining moment of the series, and possibly Carey's career, it's a complete lack of any kind of class.

    Scumbag cricket.

Headingley will doubtless be having a word.

    Oh please.

Bairstow tried the same thing not 2 days earlier.

My son's up in arms about the twitter changes - I told him that it's a good time to try an old revolutionary thing called a phone. Twitter isn't good for anything but short updates but he's been using as some go-to echo-chamber.

Anyway's, we're going to the pub in a bit after he rang me last night rather than texting me on messenger.. I think he sort of got the idea that I was trying to convey.

Social media have proven to be the death of many people's social skills and etiquette. Why think about what you're going to say when you can blurt it out while sitting on the toilet and then get a ride out of the responses\likes\whatever.

You've captured the very problem with social media.

Yep, blurt out whatever you think, whenever you think of it - true/false, doesn't matter...

    ... to a global audience.

In what universe is that a good thing? If nothing else, blurt it out to your mates and see what sort of reaction you get before you decide to update mankind with your particular form of wisdom.

  13. Yeah, Verstappen can give but not take.

Perez got the better start, so Verstappen tried to squeeze him to the barriers down the first straight. Perez with the inside line meant he was narrow so Verstappen had the run after the first corner and Perez returned the favour. Verstappen still tried to round him using the grass.

Verstappen then braked way, way, way late trying to get underneath Perez at the next corner, forcing him off the track and making Norris have to use anti-stall as Verstappen came to a standstill and Norris had no where to go, which sent him way down the order.

    Petulant? yep.

  14. Sad to see him go - but not unsurprising.

Postecoglou is a big believer in personalities and talent in the Australian ranks. Had Harry Kewell as an assistant at Celtic. Had Kevin Muscat as an assistant in Japan.

Mile is a model professional and their relationship goes back to winning the Asian Cup in 2015 when Mile was captain.

    All the best Mile....

... but not wishing you success considering it's spuds.
