My son's up in arms about the twitter changes - I told him that it's a good time to try an old revolutionary thing called a phone. Twitter isn't good for anything but short updates but he's been using as some go-to echo-chamber.

Anyway's, we're going to the pub in a bit after he rang me last night rather than texting me on messenger.. I think he sort of got the idea that I was trying to convey.

Social media have proven to be the death of many people's social skills and etiquette. Why think about what you're going to say when you can blurt it out while sitting on the toilet and then get a ride out of the responses\likes\whatever.

You've captured the very problem with social media.

Yep, blurt out whatever you think, whenever you think of it - true/false, doesn't matter...

    ... to a global audience.

In what universe is that a good thing? If nothing else, blurt it out to your mates and see what sort of reaction you get before you decide to update mankind with your particular form of wisdom.

  2. Yeah, Verstappen can give but not take.

Perez got the better start, so Verstappen tried to squeeze him to the barriers down the first straight. Perez with the inside line meant he was narrow so Verstappen had the run after the first corner and Perez returned the favour. Verstappen still tried to round him using the grass.

Verstappen then braked way, way, way late trying to get underneath Perez at the next corner, forcing him off the track and making Norris have to use anti-stall as Verstappen came to a standstill and Norris had no where to go, which sent him way down the order.

    Petulant? yep.

  3. Sad to see him go - but not unsurprising.

Postecoglou is a big believer in personalities and talent in the Australian ranks. Had Harry Kewell as an assistant at Celtic. Had Kevin Muscat as an assistant in Japan.

Mile is a model professional and their relationship goes back to winning the Asian Cup in 2015 when Mile was captain.

    All the best Mile....

... but not wishing you success considering it's spuds.

Looks like a destroyer in the midfield breaks up play and feeds it off keeps it's simple neat and tidy.

    so... Ashley Westwood MkII ?

  5. Hard to argue with the clubs decision to remove him from the football side of things given our run under Emery since.

Good on Purslow to decide a non-football role is not for him and stepping down.

Overall did a good job - but I wonder if it's the appointment of Gerrard that undid him.

  6. Change of tack here: Lee Hendrie

He was a pantomime villain for a lot of his time playing for us. Whether it was his off-field antics, his call for a testimonial game in an era where footballers were paid very well, or his single cap for England - a sign of unfulfilled promise. He seemed to have a knack for putting fans offside, regardless of performances.

Loved watching him play, though. He linked up play well, knew where players were and chipped in with goals himself.

Seems our distaste for creative midfielders who "can't deliver every game" is a Villa thing. See: Buendia, Coutinho

Opportunistically making Buendia a record transfer fee!? 😆

    The bitterness nourishes me!

Aye. We're Vultures. Picking off players that made their name elsewhere:

    • Jacob Ramsey
    • John McGinn
    • Tyronne Mings
    • Emi Martinez

    Vultures, I tell you!

Oh cmon.  That vid was funny.  Not everything needs to be picked apart from within an inch of its life.  Lads just having fun.  Even the timing by Felix with the pause.  Hilarious

    I dunno.

I'm first generation Australian, thick Aussie accent and can speak nothing but English. My father, though, is Hungarian. He's been living here since he was 19, coming as a refugee in 1956. He speaks English only now and very well - in fact, he'd now struggle to speak his original tongue - but could never lose his accent.

It still cuts him up when people make fun of it. Like there's something he could do about it.

But hey, it's just a bit of fun, innit?

He will be gone by christmas.

I can't see him being given the time to build something as the majority of deluded Spurs fans didn't want him so he's already on a hiding to nothing.

Same could be said for his appointment at Celtic. They wanted Eddie Howe, they got Ange and they weren't happy.

He changed those opinions pretty quickly.

  10. Ange would be a disaster.

Not because he's a bad manager - quite the opposite with success everywhere he's been - but he plays a particular type of football that is high energy and requires each player to do his bit for the team, particularly off the ball.

That's not going to suit a lot of the players at the club (e.g Richarlison, Perisic) and takes more than a few games until it gels. He'll be given 10 games and the players, knowing that to be the case, will simply wait for him to get the sack rather than get on board.

He'd be better off with a lower table team, with smaller egos and a hunger to do better. A club like Bournemouth or Crystal Palace would suit him perfectly.

To be fair, the person printing it may not have had any idea what it meant, If I saw someone walking down the road in a Utd shirt with that on the back and no context I doubt if I'd have immediately got its meaning.

I still don't. And I don't need it explained - I can gather it's in extremely poor taste, and that's all I want to know.

Yep will catch a few teams off guard early season at home. Naturally one will be us

Opening day away - if the last 2 seasons are anything to go by (Bournemouth this year, Watford the year before)

  13. Gareth Barry leaving.

You could argue it didn't do much, as we still finished 6th in 2010 but we had peaked under MON and the cracks were starting to show. Gareth went on to win the FA Cup with Man Citeh that season, followed by the League the next.

I am so impressed with how he’s managed to gel the entire squad.. The team haven’t really struggled when we suffered from injuries. Everyone slots in and delivers what has been asked of them. It really bodes well for when we play in Europe, handling multiple players in each position who believe they are starter quality..

It's an important point to make.

Consider our last minute cup capitulation against Stevenage earlier in Unai's run with us. That included a lot of second streamers which he could have thrown under the bus - but he still utilizes them, including the ones you might directly blame for that loss.

Compare that to Gerrard and his "handling" of players and losses and you can see why one succeeds and the other failed.

  15. In the end, unfortunate for Konsa, Mings and Martinez to concede. They had been great all game - especially given the crowd, the occasion and a referee that allowed Fabinho to do as he pleased - but were undone by Ramsey dropping behind their excellent defensive line and playing Firminho on.

Still - thoroughly enjoyed that. Given the injuries we suffered and the ridiculous amount of extra time it was one of our best results. Loving how good we look on and off the ball.
