A screwdriver walks into a bar and orders a drink.
The bartender says "Hey, do you know we named a drink after you?"
To which the screwdriver replies "What? You called a drink Henry?"
.... and I'll get me coat.

A horse walks into a bar and the bartender says "Why the long face?"

Man walks into a bar with a steering wheel down his pants.
The bartender states the obvious and says "Hey mate! You know you've got a steering wheel down your pants?"
"Yeah, I know." he replies, "It's driving me nuts!"

Fair enough, Blandy.
Question (in all seriousness) :
If another share issue goes ahead, does it strengthen Doug's position or will/can it be seen as a signal that the club is "ripe for takeover"?
-
I pledged money to the Buy a player fund. I'd use that and more to buy some shares... if, that is, overseas ownership (of only a few shares, admittedly) is allowed?
-
Thanks, Paddy. Makes a nice change from "Who's the worst Villa player"
That aside, my fav player is still Hendrie.
-
Young Dave O's being very quiet at the moment,.isnt he? Havent heard from him since before Palace. Hopefully kicking some backsides on the training pitches.
Nah.
He's spending his time putting together a diabolical plot. Something along the lines of using the press during the transfer window to make Ellis the scapegoat for what are - truly - his own failings as a manager.
-
We're more desperate for quality/cover in other areas of the pitch.
I'll be optimistic and say that's what we are doing.

Doesn't sound like sarcasam to me, could think of a few other words for it though!
On second thought - it wasn't sarcasm.
Sorry LL.
-
And then the wonderful statement that he is trying to stay injury free so that he can move!
LL - sarcasm doesn't always come across in print. And, judging by the poster of that comment, its almost certainly sarcasm.

Angel is pure class - just out of sorts at the moment. He remains the best striker we have and, IMO, better than Yakubu and Beattie, the latter of which I don't rate at all.
Angel is not helped by the fact that Cole is not a suitable partner (for anybody, really) and is heavily marked.
Yes, the penalty miss was bad. But then, it can't get much worse so here's to an improvement next game!
As for the first goal - unlucky. It was raining in spades (though that always happens in England, apparently) and the deflection wrong footed both Delaney and Sorenson. Macken couldn't have hoped for better service.
-
Hendrie for mine.
-
For the record, my opinion is based on all sorts of things, not just one game.
Um... OK. Not sure what you're getting at there - I just posted where I thought we'd finish. No reference to anybody else made nor intended, hence the lack of quotes in my message.
Could it be that you have an uneasy conscience?

1 game does not a season make.
We will do well early thanks to no injuries or suspensions and an easy-ish run. We will struggle to keep that up all season without a couple of decent bodies added to the squad. Predict we start falling at December and end up 8th.

I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one. For me it all depends on Lowe, if he accepts an offer, he is ours.
Both Lowe and Sturrock have publicly said that BT is not for sale. They (understandably) don't want to sell their best player.
I reckon Lowe will only accept an offer if he has no choice - i.e. BT hands in a transfer request.

The real question here is: Who is a better partner for Angel?
We don't want another "proven" Premier League striker if he can't work with Angel. We need one that compliments him, not a "different option" up front. IMO that means the kind of striker that has pace to burn over a target man.
So the likes of Yakubu, Baros, Wiltord, Anelka, Keane, Vassell and even the Moores are better prospects than JFH, Viduka, Beattie, Phillips and Allback - as good as they all are.
Out of all those we have Wiltord available on a free. Seems the best choice for a new striker, for mine.

You made the semis
Nope.
Oops. Meant Quarters. Apologies.
And we're English. Someone is always to blameNo argument there.
-
Ok. I can appreciate that you are all gutted tonight. But, really, does there need to be anything to blame? Do you really, really need a scapegoat (again)?
You made the semis
You were the highest scorers in the tournament to this point
You scored 2 excellent goals tonight
You were unlucky not to have won - you had the clearer opportunities - even though you were outplayed.
You were up against the hosts - never an easy task - and only lost due to the penalty shootout lottery.
So why do you need to blame anybody? Would you still be blaming somebody if you had won the shootout lottery?
-
I'll vote for the Angel goal V Bolton - which was no cross. Picked his spot superbly.
But it only gets my vote because the Hendrie spin-and-hit goal against Chelsea at Villa Park isn't mentioned.
-
Ok, I admit it - it was me that voted for 15mill+
Why?
- Because we made the CL?
- Because Doug parted with the cash?
- Because I've recently had brain surgery?
No. It's because Bob Kraft will put that much of an investment into his new club.
I can dream....

Always liked MD. He's the quiet achiever - never seems to get the adulation or scorn that other players get from fans, he just goes about his business.
Always liked Hendrie too. He is the usual scapegoat (at least since Alpay's departure) for any poor Villa performance. He's not been an angel off the field in the past but on it he having his best ever year, for mine.
So what do we call our new signing

Was gonna mention Gem but got beaten to it. Still like it, though.
How about Djemba ditto?
