  1. I'm not pretending anything of the sort. I've argued on Wesley's behalf in this very thread. He was improving before he got hurt. I'm only sharing these numbers because of the discussion about Iheanacho and whether or not he's better than the options we have. The numbers suggest he is. And, yes, playing for Leicester certainly helps him compared to playing here, but that alone isn't responsible for the disparity in those numbers.
  2. It's also chances. Wes averaged 1.79 shots per 90 while Iheanacho averaged 3.32. The more shots you're getting off, the higher your xG is going to be. I've attached a radar chart comparing the two of them last season.
  3. Iheanacho in 2019/20 xG per 90: 0.54 xA per 90: 0.24 For context, our leaders in those two categories xG per 90: Wesley 0.36 xA per 90: Hourihane 0.33
  4. I've heard tell they're preparing the chairs.
  5. He played both this year, but was at RCB for 978 minutes compared to LCB for 210 minutes.
  6. Agreed. Stones gets grief from fans for plenty of good reasons, but those same people ignore a lot of what he does well. For instance, he's worlds better than Mings at starting play from the back. Granted, it helps who he has passing to him, but he's still far more accurate than Mings has shown thus far. I think the two of them paired together as an RCB and LCB could be very effective. Also, he's younger than Mings!
  7. McKennie is ready for the Premier League. I don't think Sargent is. If we were to sign Sargent I would hope it would be with the plan to loan him for 2020-21.
  8. The wage bill in that graphic is from 2018-19 when we were still in the Championship. Our wage bill was higher this year. Or, at least, I hope it was.
  9. I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you.
  10. If we signed Sandro Tonali my heart would explode with happiness. Unfortunately I don't see any scenario in which he leaves Italy.
  11. He's very similar to Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg in style of play, though PEH has been more effective going forward than Baptiste has shown thus far.
  12. Not a bad comparison at all. McGinn more dangerous going forward, but Linetty is a bit better disrupting play.
  13. Good comp for Campana in the Premier League right now would be John Fleck at Sheffield United.
  14. Yes, xG means expected goals. It's a stat based on the shot you took and how often a shot of that type, from that area, results in a goal being scored. If you have a higher xG than G, you can complain of being unlucky, and vice versa. It tends to even out over the long haul, but there are also players who consistently underperform or overperform for whatever reason.
  15. This is a perfectly reasonable opinion that my optimism wants nothing to do with right now, sir.
  16. Premier League xG Leaders for 2019-20 1. Gabriel Jesus 21.02 (Actual: 14) 2. Mo Salah 20.66 (19) 3. Raheem Sterling 19.8 (20) 4. Marcus Rashford 19.5 (17) 5. Jamie Vardy 18.9 (23) 6. Tammy Abraham 18.08 (15) Villa's xG leader was Wesley at 7.27. You can look at Abraham's missed chances and hold that against him, but he missed more chances than Villa strikers were able to get. He'd be a major upgrade to our scoring potential.
  17. This is the correct approach. As @romavillan pointed out, Belotti has improved since the restart, and he's in the worse team, but Abraham looks the much safer bet to succeed here. I like Belotti, but I do think some here are overestimating how good he is. He's a real threat in the air, but his scoring touch comes and goes. Tammy isn't perfect, but he gets chances more consistently and is better in the box than Belotti is. That said, Belotti is better moving with the ball at his feet than Tammy is. I think, considering what we've already seen with Tammy in our system, he's a much safer proposition than Belotti.
  18. Well, as I implied in my post, I didn't think they were good. But xG has shown to be a much better indicator of long-term success as the numbers even out over a longer sample. So, if Wesley were to continue playing at the level as he had been, he might have scored 4 goals when he'd only deserved one over a different sample of matches. Besides, the key to the numbers wasn't the numbers themselves, but the fact Wesley's xG per match improved by 76.5% over those final 14 matches compared to his first 7. That's a good sign!
  19. Just based on our new hire, and our desire for more up front, Jonas Older Wind is a name we might want to become acquainted with. Played for Copenhagen. He's 21 and came up in the Copenhagen academy.
  20. I don't know that Wes is going to be great, but he's 22 and was just playing his first season in the Premier League. In his first 7 matches he had 1.2 xG or 0.17 xG per match. In his last 14 matches he had 4.2 xG or 0.30 xG per match. Not world beater, but definitely trending the correct direction. With Trez, I think he's a perfectly suitable backup option at this level. Relying on him to play 70 minutes per match won't get you far, however.
